Katharine: “Personally, I don’t know much about Taylor aside from her boxing. That was my only real interest in her. I know some other members of my stable have strong personal feeling towards her, but I don’t. I mean, of course I have some of your albums. Who doesn’t? But part of boxing is fighting the girl across from you. And that’s all I’m going to do tonight.
Taylor: “It’s refreshing to hear someone from Diamond Boxing Club be sweet and level headed for a change. I know it sounds kind of b###hy, but I thought boxing was going to a place where I could get away from being a mega star. I like the challenge of two girls, duking it out, without any extra crap. Fame, beauty, popularity mean nothing in that ring. All that matters is your training and your toughness. And I know I’ve got what it takes to win.”
Round 1: Taylor stepping in strong. She’s learning to stick that lengthy jab and plant it on the cheek, McPhee happy to bob and weave, she’s not throwing much here OH AND SWIFT IS DOWN!!! Clean counter left hook from Kat McPhee sends Taylor skidding and spinning down. Swift looks like she’s all together there on the floor as she slams her mitts in frustration. She’s knocked off balance more than she’s knocked down but it’s going to look the same on the scorecards. Taylor is up, she looks ok, and she’s looking to ride out the round with her rangy poke. But McPhee has other ideas, she’s inside quick, crowding her girl and throwing the big punches. Enough gets through to earn a pouty look of disbelief from Swift. This clearly isn’t how she wanted to start the fight.
Round 2: Swift circling away counterclockwise. It’s a fighting retreat to be sure, but she’s still backing up, ceding the ring to the rampaging McPhee. Taylor’s looking to get off some crisp counters, but she can’t stand and trade with McPhee at this point. Kat in no hurry, knows she’s got her girl in full retreat and she’s chasing her down with measured, disciplined boxing. McPhee can’t land any big shots, but she’s touching Taylor up, minor bruising on Swift’s cheek showing Kat’s effectiveness. Kat’s careful not to burn too much gas chasing Taylor down. She knows Taylor can’t run forever.
Swifts eyes are clear and bright, and she’s trying to land some counters when she can, but running won’t impress the judges.
Round 3: Taylor feeling good after that massage in her corner. Now it looks like she’s executing the game plan pivoting in the middle of the ring, getting off in ones and twos, forcing McPhee to circle and look for a way in. Taylor’s standing firm, throws two hooks up top. McPhee ducks under and comes in with two HARD shots to the body! Swift GUTTED as McPhee finishes with a left to the chin, spilling Taylor to the mat on her tummy. Kat with the hint of a smile on her face as she pumps her fist to the crowd en route to the neutral corner. Taylor laid out on her left side, glove covering her violated body. She’s sliding her knees underneath her at “three”. She’s creaky to one knee at “six”, but she’s breathing heavy. And she pushes up at “eight”. Taylor Swift still grimacing as the ref checks her over, still trying to process the hurt in her tummy. McPhee bangs her gloves together in the corner. She knows she’s got a hurt beauty and she needs to take advantage. Taylor looking resolute as McPhee closes in. Against her training, Taylor drops straight back away from pressure, finding herself with her back to the ropes. Kat’s applied for her business license and sets up shop in front of the wispy blonde. It’s steady work for Kat. She’s digging underneath elbows, she’s turning Swift to eat up those flanks, she’s even going straight at Taylor’s guard trying to decisively break through. To her credit, Swiftie holds firm, throwing punches back where she can, but this is clearly not her kind of fight. Swift’s reddening up here as McPhee just keeps slugging away to the bell. It’s a big sigh from Taylor before she heads back to her corner. It’s definitely an uphill struggle from here.
Round 4: Katharine McPhee comes straight out of her corner showing a loose guard. She knows she has the upper hand and looking to press her advantage. Taylor still trying to use the ring,. She’s remembering her pep talk but she’s plodding around the ring, not prancing like earlier in the fight. McPhee just using too many tools. When Taylor tries to run, Kat cuts off the ring. When Taylor tries to slug, Kat hits her back with pinpoint counters. And when Taylor tries to stand in the middle of the ring and poke out her jab, Kat comes underneath it and churns her gloves at that toned torso. Taylor cramping up bad before McPhee mercifully drops her with a swinging left hook to the jaw. Taylor flops down on elbows and knees. Her ass is in the air as her face in buried in her forearms. As the count rises, Swift shifts her weight back, and uses the ropes to climb to one knee. Ref checks her over… and she’s good to go! McPhee takes a deep breath in the corner. This girl just won’t stay down!
Round 5: Big breath from Taylor as she slowly raises her gloves for round 5. She knows she’s got an uphill road, but she’s gritting her teeth and willing to grind it out. McPhee still respectful of Taylor’s willowy power as she closes in to establish her position again. It’s slow steady pressure for Katharine, as she’s checking how much gas is left in Taylor’s tank. Swiftie still rolling with punches, using her guard, but her offensive output has dipped considerably. McPhee slowly steps on the gas pedal, adding force and frequency to her barrage until Taylor sponging up powerful shots to her lats and tummy. It’s too much for Taylor as she slides down to her knees and elbows to escape those vicious gloves. Her forehead is still down on the canvas as the ref counts five… and SWIFT IS UP AGAIN!! What a gritty performance from the blonde beauty! Kat just staring in disbelief. What will it take to end this fight? Swift’s guard just isn’t what is used to be as she stumbles forward to meet Kat. Taylor fighting with sleepy eyes and her defense is in shambles but she’s up and fighting. Mcphee closes in to clean up, and CRUSHES a lead left hook to the tummy. Swift gurgles as she swoons forward, latching onto McPhee to keep from going down. Kat continues to pump leather into Swift’s body, then shoves her off to go head hunting. Ref is watching this closely. Taylor is swaying in place, gloves around her chest, and McPhee DRILLS a left and a right hook to the chin of Swift. Ref jumps into stop it just a moment too late as Swift totters on her heels before she SPLASHES back onto the canvas. She swimming in a sea of hurt, gloves outstretched and face puckered in pain. It’s officially a win for Katharine McPhee by KO5!!
After: Taylor brought around in stages. It takes a few minutes before she’s on her stool. McPhee gracious in victory, gives Taylor a long hug. Girls clearly bonding over the fight. Kat takes Taylor’s face in her hands and whispers in her ear. Taylor nodding, smiling as she’s fighting back tears. Another embrace as the girls separate, with Kat giving a playful slap to Taylor’s ass. Swift chuckling as she heads back to the locker room.
Katharine: “Taylor is a class fighter. She had chances to quit and everyone would have understood. But she just KEPT getting up! She’s got a lot of heart and she’s definitely got my respect. Her physical skills aren’t where they need to be yet, but she’ll learn those with time. She’s got that fighting spirit that can’t be taught. I don’t care what ANYONE says, that girl is going places in the FCBA!”
Taylor: “I’ve lost before and that doesn’t bother me. Everyone has to pay their dues in this league, and as long as I keep improving, I know I’ll get my share of victories. The truth is, I got in trouble early tonight and I just never righted the ship. But I showed that I’m willing to fight, that I won’t punk, and that Taylor Swift is one tough cookie!”
