This fight was supposed to happen during last October's Ashes but a last minute change saw Erin McNaught fight and lose to FCBA veteran Jennifer Ellison while Georgia Salpa laid down some leather on Jennifer Hawkins and came away with a roaring KO6 success! There's some talk of Salpa trying to upstage Lookout! Atlantic stablemate Helena Mattsson for the shot at the BBU lightweight title against the imposing Miranda Kerr and Denise van Outen fuels these speculations as she indicates that the Mattsson papers are almost signed but for tonight's result and a potential Hail Mary change of fortunes: "Let's face it, Salpa needs to destroy McNaught if she thinks of the lightweight belts anytime soon!"
Supporting Georgia's bid in the Cardiff International Arena stands tonight are fellow Lookout! Atlantic stablemates, Gemma Merna - still nursing heavy facial bruising after a recent loss to Kara Tointon - and current BBU bantamweight champion Rosie Jones.
Erin McNaught wearing a navy blue bikini and white gloves. Brown hair with lighter shades in loose waves. Georgia Salpa wearing a lacy black bikini, white knickers and red gloves. Raven-black hair loose.
Round 1: McNaught's up early swinging around Salpa's head, keeps her ducking and weaving on her feet but fails to land noteworthy punches and the English girl drops her arms quickly, realizes she's fast enough to avoid trouble but the teasing ends even quicker than it's begun as Erin whips a left hook on the eye and snaps Salpa's head back, drives forward on the rack and forces Georgia to cover up, keeps slicing between the arms but gets clinches shortly afterwards. Georgia shows some core strenght, almost wrestles her foe to the ground and the ref must step in and shove her to the ropes as Erin leaps after her and smacks a left/right combo on the face, beats Salpa for the cover and slams a left hook on the jaw to see off the round and the Lookout! camp looks annoyed at that late surge from the Aussie.
Round 2: Loud cheers from Rosie Jones and Gemma Merna in the stands as Georgia moves forward to punish the fellow model but can't break her guard early in the second, crashes off the mitts and is forced back in wake of another jabbing efforts aimed at her head. Erin shows little fear; obviously thinks Georgia's winning record was down to subpar opposition rather than her strenght as she switches low and catches Salpa off guard, cleans out her tummy and pounds away at the rack; Salpa forces another clinch, still looks stronger of the two and pushes the Aussie to the ropes but there's Erin lacing her on the kidneys and barking in disdain. Ref is taking action again, shoves Salpa away and gives the Aussie model a warning but she has none of it and just focuses on her rival after the command, leaps after Georgia and slams her on the ribcage, eats a quick left hook on the jaw though and staggers back to the ropes, jumps to the side just in time to avoid a vicious put away hook as Salpa leans on the ropes but fails to trap her foe. The chase is on but Erin's quick on her feet, refuses to engage in further action and runs down the clock dancing around the canvas much to the Lookout's camp dismay.
Round 3: Georgia's been hanging back so far, almost looking to see out Erin's early efforts and there's another jabbing series catching her on the ribcage as the Aussie keeps coming after her and scoring repeated if not exceptionally vicious leather. Georgia swings high but misses Erin's head, gets countered around the elbows and leaps back but McNaught's driving to the tummy with a low jabbing, bounces off the rack and pushes Salpa to the ropes. Another clinch follows as the English woman just throws herself around the fellow model's waist and the ref is called into action again. Crowd starts to whistle as Salpa's tactics but as Erin leaps after her again to catch with a flying hook on the jaw, she ducks underneath and slams a series on the tummy herself, makes the visitor moan in pain and before silencing her with a right hook on the jaw. McNaught wobbles on her feet, covers up and gets backed to center of the ring with high-tempo leather from Salpa; Rosie Jones leads the crowd's support as Georgia opens from both sides and lashes out at her foe but mostly catches the forearms and runs out of time to back McNaught to the ropes where she could inflict some real damage. Much happier faces in the Lookout! camp at the bell this time but Erin keeps her game face on as well.
Round 4: Salpa tries to walk her opponent down but Erin spikes her on the ribcage and ducks underneath a hooking approach, slams a left hook on the navel and seemingly awaits Georgia trembling at her mercy but there's not even a yelping noise from the English girl who slams a right hook on the jaw herself and SENDS McNAUGHT DOWN ON HER KNEES.... The Aussie model totally forgot about her footwork and was standing there just asking to be chopped down and Salpa shows that one-punch power as she raises both her arms in the air and begins to dwell on the crowd's reaction. McNaught's face has developed a darker shade but as she removes the waves from her eyes, she's up at seven and meaning business again. Just not enough venom to put her away for the time being but Georgia's all smiles after the command and leaps after the Aussie with more menacing swings around the head. Erin reverts into some agile footwork, hangs back in mid-range as Salpa tries to nail her again but only grazes the flesh, becomes more upset and barks in anger as she crashes off the guard and fails to connect with the chest. She manages to drive the Aussie back to the ropes late on though and slams more punches around the elbows, has McNaught all covered up at the bell but still in one-piece and even smiling back at someone in the crowd during the interval.
Round 5: Georgia wants to finish her rival off but the harrassing tactics fails to increase her advantage as Erin's all defensive in wake of that knockdown and refuses to step forward. Salpa's anger isn't helped with more missed shots and she finally settles down, circles around the Aussie and reverts into single striking from behind the guard. McNaught's happy to see the onslaught abandoned for now but it doesn't take long for the English model to lash out at her again and this time a left hook catches Erin on the temple, snaps her head back and allows Salpa to bang a low jabbing series on the tummy. McNaught gets driven back to the ropes with the high-tempo leather proving superior and Georgia's in the zone, targets the midriff destruction before slamming an uppercut on the chin which leaves the Aussie gasping for air, a left hook catches her on the temple late on again and another rounds concludes with Salpa peppering her opponent's ribcage at the bell and Erin does look a bit overwhelmed right now as Denise van Outen acknowledges Georgia's superiority on the long haul. "That's the old McNaught we all know. She's got the right tools but she just can't use them and plays second fiddle the longer a fight goes. But Helena Mattsson would have finished her off long time already."
Round 6: Rosie Jones and Gemma Merna are on their feet as Georgia traps the Aussie with a jabbing series on the ribcage, staggers her in the middle of the ring and slams a left hook on the jaw, snaps Erin's head back and pours in with more venom; pulverizes the rack and pushes McNaught back to the ropes again as the Aussie slows down in wake of her opponent's increasing advantage. Her face is showing signs of fatigue too with reddish cheeks but Salpa hasn't cut her up much here so far; most of the Lookout's girl's shots were aimed at the midsection but as Georgia whips another hooking combo, McNaught dives underneath it and answers back with a spiking series on the tummy, pierces the guard herself and bounces off the chest as Salpa's caught napping and eats a right hook on the chin moments later. Erin with a furious charge from the ropes, strikes over the top and slams a left/right combo on the temples, lands a seemingly put away shot on the lip and Salpa's head snaps back; the raven-haired girl wobbles to the center of the ring before realizing Erin's punches suddenly gave her a fat lip and she's really annoyed at her now but needs to catch her breath and circles back to center of the ring as McNaught does likewise and both girls see out the round staring at each other in visible disdain but in need of a break which follows soon. Salpa still ahead on the cards according to van Outen but lost her chance of finishing the Aussie girl off and looks to be struggling physically too.
Round 7: Rosie Jones reminds Gemma Merna that Helena Mattsson wore Erin off by repeatedly punching her rack but Georgia follows a different path tonight and it's not really working for a juicy KO and as we enter the seventh; suddenly it's the Aussie girl looking much fresher and quicker on her feet. She jumps around the English brunette and smacks her on the ribcage, flicks an uppercut on the jaw and forces Salpa to cover up and send single leather from behind the guard. McNaught leans on her, looks keen to perform and avoid another disaster, pounds away at Salpa's guts thereafter and backs her against the ropes, slices the guard and bounces off the chest, has Georgia gasping for air and there's another clinch attempt from the Lookout! warrior but to no avail as Erin spikes her over the top and makes the raven tresses fly around Salpa's neck before she can finally raise her arms in time. Rosie Jones is down on her seat and looking worried as Salpa just sags back on the ropes and allows McNaught to punch her repeatedly to the stomach and find another uppercut to the chest just before the bell. Georgia really looks tired out there and her ship has sailed according to BBU TV.
Round 8: Erin tries to do the same against Georgia that Helena Mattsson did against her a while back and with the English brunette losing her speed and agility across the canvas, she's a hittable target, further enhanced by the enormous rack and McNaught closes her down and slices between the arms again, makes that lacy black bikini top sway from side to side and Salpa reverts into chaotic striking over the top; grazes the Aussie on the nose but eats a swift counter on the temple.. and another one as Erin buries a right hand on the ribs and has Salpa screaming in pain all of the sudden... Rosie's on her feet in the stands as McNaught romps away in the middle of the ring, lands a left hook on the chin and snaps Georgia's head back again, turns on the frenzy mode and bashes Salpa's face with more leather as the English girl's hands go numb and provide no cover... LEFT HOOK ON THE JAW.... Georgia's eyes shoot for the stars and SHE CRUMBLES ON HER SIDE WITH A LOUD THUMP... remains unresponsive at the count and Erin can hardly believe what she's done here tonight; just stares at her fallen opponent's body as Georgia's truly been shattered in come-from-behind and perhaps upseting fashion ... KO8 Erin McNaught!!!
AFTER: Denise van Outen smiles in the booth as she's always up for a brutal knockout of any raven-haired woman but manages to provide more neutral commentary: "Guess we've found out who's really worth something tonight, haven't we? But than again Salpa was ahead on points when she was floored so it's another puzzle. And wasn't like Georgia the one who was supposed to destroy her opponents with a one-punch display? Looks like nobody told Erin about that. But there's a massive joy in the BronzedOz camp and rightfully so."
Meanwhile Gemma & Rosie offer their solace to the fallen Georgia who crumbles onto her stool and covers the face with her raven tresses; the chances of a shot at the lightweight title now seemingly postponed until further notice but there's still good news for the Lookout! Atlantic stable as Helena Mattsson is almost destined to face the Australian glamour model next in what shapes up to be a real cracker for the fans. Howwever with Miranda Kerr set to feature on ANZAC Day card back home there's still a chance for someone to spoil Mattsson's schedule and derail her prospects at the very last moment.
Final result: Erin McNaught def. Georgia Salpa KO8.
