Both these actresses have fallen on hard times in recent months struggling for simple exposure. Coronation Street's Suranne Jones was last seen in the ring against Catherine Tyldesley in July of last year while Lucy Pargeter of Emmerdale fame secured a top notch Ashes billing only to be brutally stopped by Sarah Murdoch before going down into a heap to Alex Curran five months ago. And given their age Denise van Outen thinks they're both one step away from becoming a permanent welterweight cannon fodder for the newcomers like Leah Francis and the rest of PageThrees "slut wagon".

It's a return to a vicious duel held back in 2012 where Lucy beat the stuffing out of Suranne not once but twice and now Jones vows a brutal revenge to keep herself afloat of the Kear's Kats roster but the Monday Night Boxing opener is quite frankly a coin-flipper with so little success from both women to speak of lately.

Lucy Pargeter wears a red basque top, black knickers and red gloves. Suranne Jones wears a turquoise basque top, white knickers and black gloves. According to van Outen they both look like washed-up street whores but the Birmingham crowd seems to enjoy this attire anyway. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1:
'Bring it on, you pudgy slut!', Suranne screams out before the opening bell to lure the crowd on her side but Lucy has none of it and starts bashing her mitts into the fellow brunette's chest, outworks Jones in the opening minute and really tests the strenght of her cleavage before getting countered over the top. Suranne drills the response between the arms and catches the chin in a frantic effort to tame Lucy's efforts but it's the raven-haired actress making more inroads and bouncing off Suranne's cheeks down the stretch. Jones has to yield real estate but stays out of the striking range and Pargeter can't close her down for remainder of the round despite looking more determined of the two to inflict some early damage.

Round 2:
Both women tangle in the middle of the ring and Lucy beats her rival for an overhand jabbing on the face, smacks Suranne across the cheeks and follows up with a fine uppercut to snap the head back. Jones stumbles to the side but refuses to jump into safety, lifts her gloves a fraction too late though and gets whacked on the nose as Pargeter traps her in close range and shatters the guard, whips more hooks on the nose AND JUST SENDS JONES CRASHING HARD ON HER BUMS... that was almost too easy for the Emmerdale vixen and speaks bad volume about Suranne's punching resistance but the Corrie woman gets up at five and indicates she simply slipped there.. that's questionable to be honest but she rips a response on Pargeter's guts to keep her at bay and only then jumps to the side in avoidance, shows superior agility to survive the round as Lucy yells some abuse back at her and pads herself on the chest.

Round 3:
Pargeter seeks further damage and ignites some pace to keep up with her foe, digs immediate leather on the ribcage and tries to slice through the mitts with more uppercuts but Jones bumps into her and drills the chest herself, thumps impressive leather to keep Lucy at bay and beats her for a cross hook on the nose to get out of trouble for good. She adds a flurry of punches afterwards as Pargeter struggles for balance and just whacks her on the cheek. Lucy still can't find her feet and gets thrown onto the ropes where Suranne screams out in determination and pounds away at the stomach to wipe that knockdown demons off, finds some uppercuts herself and has the raven-haired foe covering up in despair at the bell.

Round 4:
Suranne's been told to attack at all cost by coach Gail Kim, a questionable tactics so early on but perhaps acceptable in wake of the knockdown. She rips into Lucy's guts again to stagger her in the middle of the ring and makes full use of her superior agility, wins a batting exchange on the chest and wobbles Pargeter back with another intentional bump. Lucy's hook misses the head but Suranne clobbers her clean on the temple and spins onto the ropes moaning again. Jones with a flurry of leather afterwards, finds the ribcage drilling all to comfortable and sinks her rival butt-in-ropes before unleashing an uppercut galore on the chin to completely shatter Pargeter's guard and bring back all the Ashes demons instead. Left hook on the temple rocks Lucy into a shrieking dummy, right hand on the chin closes her eyes but there's one bump too many from the over-excited Suranne who falls into a clinch and gets a warning upon punching into Lucy's kidneys in the dying seconds.

Round 5:
Lucy's been let off the hook to some extent but she just can't buy herself another respite as Suranne traps her with more midriff jabbing and bends to the side after piercing the liver area. She tries to respond in a similar manner but Jones turns on the pace and bats overhands on the cheeks to induce a couple of shiners and then blasts a cross hook on the mouth to send Pargeter sagging onto the ropes. No escape this time as she whacks Lucy on the solar plexus and causes the loudest yelp of pain yet, adds a series on the mouth with the guard non-existent AND JUST THUMPS PARGETER TO HER KNEES with an overwhelming display... Lucy can't quite believe the turnaround here, takes her time before getting up at seven but coach Gail Kim's screams for the Kats' corner are very ominious as Jones blasts another cross hook against the chin and spins a lacklustre Emmerdale babe to the ropes before trying to drill her ribcage again. Lucy sends a powerful left hand on the temple and makes Suranne moan but there's no follow up and Jones just shoves her into the ropes for good with more spiking jabs, runs out of time to terminally break the wounded Lucy though.

Round 6:
It's a frantic welterweight affair not exactly of the highest standard and a more skilled fighter would have smoked Lucy into KO daze long time ago already according to Denise van Outen but Suranne's ammount of leather gives her the edge again as she whacks Pargeter's stomach to jelly and leaves her all covered up and sagging on the ropes by the minute mark. There's no response whatsoever so Suranne can set her up and dig the left glove on the forearms and seek terminal destruction of the guard by hammering the right hand on the temple, she skims off with her first try but finds the target with the second one and Lucy cries out in pain, drops her arms rather than torso to even seek a clinch and eats a thunderclap cross hook on the nose THAT SENDS HER TUMBLING TO THE SIDE... Jones screams out to Gail Kim in delight but Lucy still beats the count at seven and tries to keep her focus in wake of a deluge of leather looming at her next... Suranne pours with a facial leather and keeps her trapped butt-in-ropes, slice the mitts with ease and pummels the nose with a series of jabs to squash Pargeter's nostrils into a bloody mess come the bell and quite frankly it's surprising she couldn't kill the bout off as Lucy somehow survives this onslaught but with blood now pouring from her nose and calling the medics into action.

Round 7:
Lucy's patched up fine to start the seventh but just can't escape Suranne's punches to save her life.. and it's all on the face now as the batting continues and has Jones barking with every shot turning Pargeter's nose into a complete mess... Lucy gets shoved into the ropes early again and just eats relentless leather, Suranne bashes away like crazy and finally drops her arms for keeps, throws another cross hooking combo to resume the nasal bleeding before drilling one last shot on the brow ridge TO SEND LUCY TUMBLING TO THE GROUND FLAT ON HER FACE... and now the count is futile as the raven-haired actress has taken all the punishment she could and then some... Whooping KO7 Suranne Jones!!!

AFTER: The Corrie babe leaps in the air and continues to scream 'I beat her ass!' like she's just won the welterweight title but her last victory was light years away so one can understand the joy. Plus she pulled one back on Pargeter having lost both their previous encounters two years ago. Perhaps Suranne isn't destined for the cannon fooder label just yet even though she destroyed an equally lacklustre opponent tonight.

Meanwhile things just can't look any worse for Lucy Pargeter who scored a fine knockdown in the second round - which definitely wasn't caused by Jones slipping - but has totally checked out ever since then never to recover. Denise van Outen thinks the likes of Elize du Toit and the favorite jobber of the division, Abbey Crouch should consider making a comeback and just lay into Pargeter who's in a terrible shape both physically and mentally right now.
