CELEBRITY BOXING AFTER DARK
(Writing: Anon Results: Lookout)

"I mean, Malin's great outside the ring, don't get me wrong, but can she fight?" Amy Acker asked before her match. "And I think the answer is no. Looking at her record, you get the impression that fighting is something she does on the side. I take this seriously, and I think you're going to see that difference reflected in the results."
Malin Akerman had other ideas. "Just looking at Amy you can tell that she's not in the best shape. A few rounds in she's going to be tired and hurting, and pretty soon I'll have another knockout to add to the list."
Malin Akerman entered the ring in yellow trunks and bra, followed shortly after by Amy Acker in green.
Round 1: The fight began with Akerman and Acker moving toward each other confidently, gauging the other's abilities with probing jabs. The action escalated as the round continued, culminating in a heated exchange that saw Acker parrying Akerman's shots with plenty of room for herself to respond. Once it was clear that she was in trouble, Akerman backed off, still in the fight but needing to regain plenty of ground.
Round 2: The start of the second round saw Akerman looking for an opportunity to turn things around. At first, no matter where she turned, Acker was there to shut her down. However, Akerman's persistence paid off. The stalemate broke when the blonde powered through Acker's swing, parrying the incoming shot and striking Acker soundly on the chin before she could adjust. Driving the stunned Acker back with a flurry of punches, Akerman took clear control of the fight.
Round 3: With both Akerman and Acker having a round in their favor, and neither fighter particularly hurt, the third round saw both fighters searching for a way to turn things to their advantage. It quickly became clear that Akerman would be the one to pull ahead. The blonde was able to consistently dictate the flow of the action as the round progressed. Though Acker covered herself up decently, she found herself reacting rather than acting. The brunette returned to her corner looking discouraged after a difficult round.
Round 4: In good shape physically but behind on points, Acker entered the fourth round determined to come back. Though Akerman was able to stop her attempts at a big play with her counter attacks, the blonde actress still found herself suffering the worst of the minor skirmishes that Acker was able to force. This time, it was Akerman's turn to plod back to her corner with few accomplishments in the round, despite her best efforts.
Round 5: The fifth round saw Acker maintain her control, stopping Akerman's offense with counter punches and pecking at her from a safe distance. However, in the middle of the round, Acker went on the offensive. Surprising Akerman with her sudden shift in tactics, the brunette bounced a straight punch off of Akerman's face before the blonde realized what had hit her. Standing her ground, Akerman fought back, but as her first swing failed to connect, Acker punished her with a second close range strike that nearly knocked her off balance. Akerman left the round looking worse for wear.
Round 6: Looking to follow up her previous success and potentially finish the fight long before the end of the tenth round, Acker came out of her corner already on the attack, forcing a confrontation early in the round. Both fighters parried or deflected the first few of their opponent's attacks, both choosing to stick around and fight to a conclusion. The advantage finally went to Akerman, who timed a left hook to Acker's body to coincide with one of her opponent's failed swings. As Akerman followed up right a right hand to Acker's ribs, the brunette began to back off, realizing things would only get worse. Before she was out of reach, Akerman caught Acker under the chin with an uppercut that nearly knocked her off her feet. Covering herself up, Acker spent the rest of the round trying to simply survive without allowing things to snowball in Akerman's favor.
Round 7: Hurt but still in the fight, Acker seemed willing to continue her offense despite the punishment she had taken in the last round. Her early attempts were largely stalemates as Akerman exchanged careful punches with her, but later in the round things swung in the brunette's favor. Landing a lucky shot to the nose that sent Akerman stumbling backwards, hair flying everywhere, Acker began to chase her opponent down. Akerman quickly found herself trapped in the corner, absorbing punch after punch as Acker twisted her body back and forth to maximize the damage. Akerman, looking dazed as she bounced off of the turnbuckle with her head wobbling, managed to clinch with Acker, leaning on her opponent to stay on her feet. Unable to get back in the action, Acker waited this one out until the referee broke things up. Akerman, looking weak and unsteady, endured the rest of the round with great difficulty.
Round 8: Sensing the potential for a win in the very near future, Acker once again wasted no time in going on the attack. Early on, she was able to score big hits on her weakened opponent, who endured a blow to the head that knocked her to the side, remained on her feet, and managed to fight back well enough to earn herself a short break. However, Akerman's efforts only gave her a short respite, and soon Acker was moving to finish her off once again. After the brunette's first punch thudded against Akerman's guard, her second snuck between the blonde's gloves, snapping her head back. Akerman limped back to her corner when time finally ran out.
Round 9: Akerman was clearly in trouble, but nevertheless she left her corner clearly able to put up a decent fight. For a time, she traded jabs with Acker, striking with enough accuracy and power to leave the fight fairly even. However, as the round continued, it became clear that Akerman was running low on energy. After a particularly sluggish counterattack by Akerman, Acker went for the kill, ducking her opponent's swing and moving in to deliver a one two combination to her midsection. Akerman curled up in pain, momentarily unable to defend herself. Acker had plenty of room to work. Two solid blows to the head later, Akerman was face down on the mat, arms limp at her sides. The referee's count was a mere formaility, as the blonde did not even try to get up until it was over. Acker celebrated in her corner, smiling with her fists over her head as the referee declared her the winner by KO in round 9.
"I have to give her credit for lasting so long," said Amy Acker after the match. "She got into trouble pretty early, and she really surprised me by hanging on until the ninth round." Acker had plenty to say on the subject of what the win meant for her future. "I hope people get that the fight ended long before round 9. A solid win like this establishes me as a real competitor, and I hope nobody overlooks it." |
