Anna Silk vs. Elodie Frege
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE: Frege looking to follow up on a breakout win against Alba. She's all lovely smiles as she contemplates walking into an FCBA ring for the first time as something other than a heavy underdog. "It's been a rough road for me," Elodie says in that lovely French accent. "But, I kept working hard and my management kept believing in me, and things have turned around. Now, it's time to take another step forward by knocking out Anna Silk."

"I give this girl credit, she wants to fight," says Anna with a nod. "Otherwise, why would she take a fight against me? I'm absolute poison for fragile boxers like her, and she has to know it. Remember what I did to Laura V? And this girl is no Laura V. Don't take the over tonight, boys."

ROUND ONE:

Frege has shown she can fight different styles in the past, sometimes doing a "poor man's Britney" by working from the pocket, and other times being all about movement and open canvas boxing. It's  the latter strategy she uses in this round, playing matador to Silk's bull. Anna, the self-proclaimed hardest-hitting bantam in the FCBA, is all straight ahead, looking to close and bring Elodie to battle, but Frege is having none of it. She's on her toes, angling, all movement as she uses the long left jab to slow Anna's pursuit and set her up for right hands. Silk works hard, moving her feet, trying to match footwork to square up, but, mostly she spends her time chasing, while Frege is able to turn her and find open canvas when she needs to. Both women score, but it's clearly Elodie who's the ring general, and it's also the French beauty who gets the points when the bell rings and takes the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

More aggression from Silk and more slick boxing from Frege. Elodie wants to keep the exchanges short, and get off first, reducing Anna to one or two punches before she has to chase and reset. Silk now works to cut off the ring and bring Frege to battle. Again, both women have success. Frege is able to keep Anna at bay at times, get her turning and chasing, but, in this stanza, Silk is able to crowd more often, cut off Elodie's escape routes, and create set piece battles instead of skirmishes. Frege ships some good power blows and belies Silk's description of her as "fragile", and she responds in kind when Anna gets the phone-booth stuff she wants, landing solid shot of her own and showing that, while she's definitely a boxer, she does have power, even if it's not at Silk's level. When you add it all up, it comes to another close round, this one won by Silk, who's ring chopping tactics allow her to get the edge on points and even the fight at 19.

ROUND THREE:

The contrast in styles even more apparent. Frege is PRETTY, my friends. PRETTY. When she moves, she GLIDES. She FLOATS. She's SMOOTH. And her hands are FAST. All her movements mesh. "B" follows "A" and leads to "C". And it's all so PRETTY. Anna Silk's style belies the last name. There is nothing pretty about what Silk does. And there's nothing pretty about the results when she does it. She stalks Frege, taking poppy, snappy punches to close, and when she closes, she thuds heavy leather amidships. It's BRUTAL. It's NASTY. And it's EFFECTIVE. But, so is Elodie. Those fast hands and educated feet combine to get leather on target, to pepper Silk as she comes forward, until Anna begins the ugly, tenderizing of Frege's body. And it's all ABOUT body this round for Anna. She concentrates there. Invests. Clearly thinking the way to make the French beauty less pretty is to get into her legs. When the bell rings, it's a third close round, and a second straight win for Silk, whose gets jusssst enough done to the body to take the 29-28 lead.

ROUND FOUR:

Silk turns up the heat. She's sensing a winning combination here. Cut the ring, bang the body. Slow down Elodie. And then finish the girl she calls "fragile". But, this isn't the Elodie Frege of a couple of years ago, a try-hard girl who, despite her best efforts, often got overpowered and overwhelmed. This is the Elodie Frege that all the dues-paying has created, a girl who has answers for those bullying tactics, answers in the form of her slashing, quick fists. The adjustment doesn't appear to be all that big, and it's not...but it's effective in the extreme. It's a change of footwork, one that allows her to slide off square as Silk moves forward. Now, she can score as Anna moves in, then slip out of true as she closes, allowing Elodie to score as again as she slides away, frustrating Silk's efforts to bring her to battle. It's skirmish after skirmish, and Frege excels at the skirmishes. Silk remains determined, continuing to stalk, working body when she can, but it's Frege back in control as she was in the first. And we're all tied at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Silk turns up the heat. Yes, even further. She's close to charging forward now, walking in on Elodie, willing to take punches in bunches if it will allow her to close and get to work. Frege manages the threat pretty well. She keeps moving. She doesn't get sucked into extending exchanges to do more damage. Skirmishes. That's what she wants. Fighting around the edges. Turn. Move. Tactics. And tactical victories. Silk wants more. And bigger. She wants Kursk. And she's willing to take Frege's fire to create it. Elodie, though, is PRETTY. And she's clever, too. She keeps picking, keeps turning, keeps frustrating the power-hitting Canadian until...GOTTERDAMMERUNG! A whistling overhand right and DOWN GOES FREGE! Elodie stunned on her back. Silk smiling back to her corner. Surely she's finished the French beauty. That was about as big a punch as she, the self-proclaimed "hardest hitting bantam in the FCBA" can throw. Surely. But, no. Frege is up! She's wobbly, but she's standing. She takes the count and the referee waives Anna forward. Elodie immediately to the ropes and Anna goes to work on that body. Now, she has Elodie's army where she wants it, and she throws in all her divisions. She hammers away as Elodie hangs on in a high guard. Frege survives to the bell, but she's shabby headed back to the corner. Silk now leads 48-46...and she's thinking about a final battle.

ROUND SIX:

Silk straight forward now, bulls Frege back into the ropes. Elodie's legs haven't yet recovered and Anna knows it. Silk all over the French beauty, hammering away with heavy shot. Elodie forced to give battle and she does. Frege wings back at Silk, trying to get her off, create space, but Anna isn't giving a step. This is her Kursk, and she's going to destroy Frege here or use everything trying. Elodie plays for time, clinching, holding, but Anna shrugs her off and keeps firing away, using huge amounts of energy looking for the finisher. She shakes Frege with a right hand, and then a left hook, but Elodie won't go down. She snaps the head back, sends sweat flying, but Elodie won't go down. She thumps the body to bring down the guard and then lands a short uppercut that buckles the knees AND THE REFEREE HAS SEEN ENOUGH! Frege is still standing, refusing to go. showing that patented determination of hers, but she's out on her feet as the ref bundles her to safety. The battle on the steppe is over, and Anna Silk wins it by TKO6!

AFTER:

Silk all smiles. She's done just what she said, and couldn't be happier about it. "I told you. Poison. I'm poison for girls like her. It was just a matter of time. She could run, but she couldn't hide. Sooner or later, I was going to find her, and, when I did, well. There's no better finisher in this division than me. And they all KNOW that. That's why they're avoiding me. All those top bantams. Where are they? Where are Wilde and Michalka? Where are DeCesare and Lilly? Where are Kelly and Cuthbert? Where are the Canadians? McAdams and Park? Hellooooo??? They all KNOW. Stay away from Anna Silk. But. They can't hide, either. I WILL find them. And FINISH them."
