Christine Bleakley has the privilege of opening the Lioness Club anniversary card in front of a rampant Barnet audience and the raven-haired TV presenter is extremely keen to make up for the painful knockout to Gal Gadot back in March which halted her progress through the lightweight division. She takes on Hollyoaks' Claire Cooper, the brunette actress fell to Bleakley's fellow TV nemesis Holly Willoughby last fall and still hasn't earned herself any meaningful reputation but if she beats the Ulster girl tonight that should change very quickly indeed. Denise van Outen openly disdains Bleakley so she's supporting Cooper from the booth but the odds are stacked against the actress nonetherless.
Christine Bleakley wears a navy blue bikini and black gloves. Claire Cooper wears a red bikini and white gloves.
Round 1: A quick start from Bleakley who digs her mitts into Claire's rack and moves into a series of uppercuts on the chin sending the actress in a circling defense around the ring. Christine flicks more jabs over the top and outworks her rival in the middle of the ring but fails to land that big punch to really underline her feisty approach and falls into a response on the body as Claire's desperate to take a valuable scalp tonight and she silences the crowd when a series of jabs on the navel bends Bleakley forward and is followed by a crisp left hook on the mouth. Christine gasps for air and wobbles worryingly to the side and Claire blasts a left/right combo on the cheeks staggering the presenter cold. Another left hand pierces the guard and bounces off the eye as Cooper turns on the heat late on and buries another jabbing series on the navel to leave Bleakley moaning at the bell.
Round 2: Christine leaps with an aggressive series on the head but skims off the guard and Claire has found her niche with more low jabbing on the body to halt the Ulster girl's charge. She goes around the elbows and peppers the ribcage to send Bleakley back and throwing weak response over the top. Another spiking series on the liver area forces the presenter to drop her guard and expose the chin and Cooper's right there with a left/right uppercut switch. She snaps Bleakley's head back and sends her tripping into the ropes before a left hook pierces the brow ridge and sinks Christine for good. Claire with a belting series between the arms, she rocks the mounds and whips a lacklustre presenter against the ropes before cross hooking the mouth again and just thumping facial leather until the bell with Bleakley looking absolutely stunned and nursing a swollen eye already.
Round 3: It's not what the Barnet audience expected from the Ulster presenter and coach Gina Wild is all over the girl's ear prompting a ferocious start to the third round with Bleakley romping away at the fellow brunette's face. Claire refuses to buckle and answers back in similar fashion, both heads are snapped left & right as a war of attrition gets the crowd on their feet before a wild scream of pain from Claire's mouth breaks the deadlock and Christine's repeated left/right combos has smashes her nostrils on the minute mark but the onslaught doesn't stop there. Bleakley in classic red mist mode, pumping jabs on the mouth and clipping the nose again as Cooper crumbles under the barrage and earns more head snapping nightmare. She has to yield real estate and wiped blood from her nose as Bleakley keeps targeting the face and hassles her down around the ring, lands single leather on the cheeks but maintains the advantage for remainder of the round even though she fails to push the actress onto the ropes where she can punish her in more decissive fashion.
Round 4: Claire looks stunned how her nostrils got banged up in that ferocious exchange and tries to bide her time with quick circles around the ring but the blood is pumping fast in Christine's veins and she dominates the footwork game early in the fourth before trapping the actress with more facial leather. This just slows Cooper even further and the guard begins to crack on a repeated basis now as Bleakley slices her mitts to rock the head again but it's a low switch on the liver area that gives her the commanding advantage in the latter stages of the round. Claire gets backed into the ropes as she tries to cover the midsection and has Christine thumping her on the cheeks again and snapping the head into a neck crank level... eyes closed for the actress and she just sags on her knees with Bleakley shouting in her efforts now and opening the nasal wound again... a heavy one-two on the brow ridge renders Claire numb right at the bell and she's fortunate ref has to drag the Ulster brunette away because she threatened to knock her silly in a matter of seconds.
Round 5: All Bleakley in the fifth with the actress visibly bothered by her nasal wound and unable to protect herself from more leather thumping her face into a swollen mess. Slicing combos on the head just drop Cooper's guard and make her extremely vulnerable before a left uppercut on the chin pulls the plug on the battered actress AND SENDS HER CRASHING DOWN ON THE KNEES... Claire rests her head against the canvas while trying to shake off the count, gets up at seven but checks for more blood seeping from her nose rather than mounting any response. Bleakley blasts a cross hook on the mouth to slice the guard again and rips a left hook on the temple to wobbles the actress to the side; a heavy right hand nails Cooper on the nose to make her scream out in pain and fall back on the ropes with her face now a swollen mask of pain... Christine with more piercing hooks on the bloody nose... she shuts Claire's eyes for good and blasts a finishing left uppercut on the chin TO DROP THE ACTRESS ON HER KNEES again and this time Cooper just rolls onto her side and bursts into spasms of defeat as the ref calls for the medics already... KO5 Christine Bleakley!!!
AFTER: That was a good comeback from the Ulster brunette who looked completely overwhelmed in the opening couple of rounds before bashing Cooper's face into a swollen mess. She wants to add some post-fight humiliation but the ref pushes her back as Claire fears her nose is broken and needs immediate medical attention first. Denise van Outen is silent in the booth as the anniversary card started against her intended script but exactly follows the crowd's hopes instead.
Once poor Claire is lifted off the canvas and escorted back to the locker room, Christine finally calms down and indicates she wasn't hurt much by that early onslaught even though a couple of nasty shiners on both cheeks indicate otherwise. It wasn't plain sailing for the Ulster brunette but a win is always a win and the whole Barnet is relieved the Lioness lightweight division isn't all about Karolina Kurkova and Bleakley could spoil many girls' elite plans in the future. Besides that's the perfect way to start the anniversary card. which is almost equally important!
Final result: Christine Bleakley def. Claire Cooper KO5.
