Katie Holmes versus Maria Menounos
(Words: Bazz / Results: Lookout!)
Before: Boxing match held up for about twenty minutes as John Travolta employs a half dozen members from a local rugby team watching in the next suite to haul Tom Cruise back to safety.
Katie Holmes stands tall at the podium. “You know I’ve had my problems getting traction in this league so this is a big fight for me. I get an established and recently successful fighter like Menounos then my wheels will catch asphalt and I’m going forward.” The long cool brunette announces. Then Maria Menounos leans into the microphones. “I’ve made some tactical errors during my title defense and I plan to repair that damage going forward. And did anyone see that guy hanging from the wire out there? Was that Tom Cruise?” Maria can’t resist adding insult to injury. “I thought that we agreed before coming out here not to talk about the unfortunate incident!” Katie Holmes retorts with a slow angry cadence through gritted teeth. “I’m so sorry Kate. It wasn’t fair but I couldn’t resist. It’s so funny. . . so funny” Menounos can barely get the words out through the laughter.

Rd 1 Both women out in similar stances tall and lean with long reaches. Maria looking stylish, showing off the legs early leaning in with some accurate jabs. Katie leaning back and knocking away as many Maria reaches as possible. Not a lot of mixing it up as ladies feel each other out. Still Maria does a decent job of pestering the brunette and putting a pout on her face early.
Rd 2 Katie out with a purpose only to walk right into a Menounos jab that draws some oohs and aaahs from the crowd and staggers her. Tall brunette shakes off Monounos’ punch and connectis with a combination that puts her on the offensive. Girls looking all sorts of tall elegance at mid ring. Katie and Maria trading jabs with Mrs Ex Tom Cruise throwing with some surprising velocity at the greek Goddess. Maria’s head snaps back when a few jabs connect. Round ends with Katie landing a short cross that swings the judges her way for the round.
Rd 3 Both women refusing to sit in between rounds and the crowd soon realizes that this time is more an opportunity to preen and pose while taking sips of water than to rest. Maria saunters out to mid ring meeting Katie and begins to put on a clinic for looking sexy while nonchalantly snapping off jabs at an opponent. Greek Goddess looking all sorts of leggy and ultra white teeth as she moves around the crouching Holmes. Dawson’s Creek beauty trying to Joe Frazier herself into Maria’s breadbasket but the elegant hostess is having none of it simply legging herself out of trouble and then planting her left gam and letting a jab and an occasional hook fly. Round ends and Katie looks demoralized making her way back to her corner while Maria is all nose in the air as she takes a bottle of water from a corner man and returns to some serious preening and posing in her corner.
Rd 4 Maria comes out in total control having forced her will upon Katie she’s already making plans for some mussels and ouzo at her post fight meal. Dark haired beauty continues to use upright stance and a smooth quickness to control her opponent. Meanwhile Katie finding herself in desperate straits looking for an opening against a quicker, more polished fighter. Sick of the Extra Girl’s easy use of the ring Katie cuts her off and pushes her into the corner. The rough and tumble chaos that ensues is right up Katie’s alley. She fires off short powerful punches to the tummy for the final half of the round not letting Maria come up for air. The last few shots do more than tickle Maria’s ribs sending her to her corner in a painful crouch evening the fight up.
Rd 5 Katie sticks close to Maria. The Greek Goddess can’t look elegant pushed up against the ropes with Holmesy pummeling away at the midsection. Maria tries to dance her way out of the tight fighting but Katie will have none of it. She’s working on the ribs like a fat man at a barbecue joint. Maria winces as she catches the rat-a-tat-tat piston punches from Katie. Towards the end of the round Menounos finds a way out to the middle of the ring and tries to resume her game of pretty fighting but she’s a little hurt and needs a quick rest and so gives up another round to Mrs. Ex Tom Cruise.
Rd 6 Maria out cautious and staying well off the ropes. She seems none the worse for wear after the previous round. Both fighters know their strategy now and so it’s Menounos moving about with a stylish upright jabbing followed by a well timed hook versus Holmes’ ducking and weaving movements trying to find an opening and chopping away. Both fighters doing a good job of keeping the other at bay and occasionally finding pay dirt with a Menounos jab to the nose or a Holmes hook to the body. The round breaks down to an excellent example of disciplined fighters going at it but Menounos simply lands a few more and looks just a bit prettier doing it.
Rd 7 Katie getting frustrated and starting to take chances to get at Maria. Menounos seemingly unaffected by Kate’s intensity acceleration showing off her body and legs as she elegantly dances away from her opponent. Kate stalking Maria from corner to corner but now unable to trap her against the ropes and put a beating on her body. Greek show host just that much more silky quick in getting away from the now frenzied actress. Katie makes a move inside on Maria hoping to work the jugs but Menounos will have none of it dancing back a couple of steps and leaning back in on a shapely left leg and DOWN GOES KATIE! Holmes catches a strong cross from Maria when she fakes one of her routine jabs and delivers the right hand with a quick powerful movement. Katie shocked and not very happy. Brown haired beauty gets to her feet at about 6 as a cool Maria waits in a neutral corner. Round ends with Katie kicking herself for getting hit.
Rd 8 Maria skips out to mid ring with her self confidence on max to face a frustrated and angry Katie. Holmes throwing some strong punches showing some serious conditioning as Maria continues to dance away. Finally Katie finds the Greek beauty up against the ropes and starts to go to work with her chopping hooks and uppercuts. Things looking in Kate’s favor until Maria leans back against the ropes creating space between the two tall brunettes and launches a right hand cross that catches the side of Katie’s head. Holmes looks dazed as she stares down Menounos who simply finishes her with a left hand uppercut. HOLMES DOWN ON HER KNEES! Menounos steps aside and strolls to the neutral corner to await the outcome. Ref counts out Katie who is froxen on all fours looking for someone to tell her what just happened.
Winner: Maria Menounos KO Rd-8
After: “That girl got in much better shape! When she found the inside and started banging away I have to say that I had my doubts!” Maria exclaims paying tribute to her opponent. “Katie’s no push over that’s for sure. Still this is a good first step back on the right path to a championship fight. Let’s face it, it’s where I belong.” Maria excuses herself to go to Katie Holmes’ corner and hug it out. The two talk for a moment and then exit the ring together!
