Amy Davidson (5'0”) vs. Lea Seydoux (5'6”) (Results: Lookout; words: simgrrl)
Before: Lea Seydoux is a 29 y/o French actress most notable for taking off her clothes in this year's controversial film, “Blue is The Warmest Color.” Aside from that, she's pretty much unknown “...this side of the Atlantic.” Lea's FCBA record is lackluster (2-3) but she's 9-6 in the BBU with all of her wins coming via the KO route. Apparently, the girl can hit hard - at least she has hit Europeans hard!
Amy Davidson' the 35 y/o star of “8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teen-age Daughter” which went off the air in 2005. Since then, she's compiled a losing record (6-8) in the FCBA, although she has KO'd opponents in 4 of her 6 wins, so she clearly has some pop! Since 2005 - as far as we can determine - she's been almost as active in FCBA as in Hollywood where much of her work was in supporting, or second banana, roles; but she's been active in Europe where she's a staple on the Mediterranean Summer Cruise boxing circuit (a little publicized venture that features models, singers, dancers, and - mostly B - actresses stripping down to bikini or less - to entertain cruisers. While it's not considered “family friendly”, the Euro's have a decidedly different slant on things than the more conservative Yanks and the boxing cruises are always sold out.
Boxing aficionados joke, “A good big woman can't always beat a good little woman, but that's the way to bet.” As you may have noted above, Seydoux is 5'6” to Davidson's 5'0”. For a flyweight, six inches is enormous! Our expert also gives us the keys to victory for both fighters:
Keys to Victory: Davidson. Amy must get inside and hammer Seydoux's body (which he noted with a lecherous smirk didn't have anything wrong with it when he checked out her movie at the local multiplex. In fact, so diligent was he, we went back and saw it two more times just to confirm our initial observation. According to his reimbursement voucher, the subject matter is fully reimbursable since it's “research”)
Keys to Victory: Seydoux. Lea has longer arms and legs, but her legs are deceiving because Davidson is a dancer. They're not only known for having strong legs, but good footwork in the ring. Lea will have to pressure Amy on her own terms, staking out a piece of ring and forcing Amy to circle while using energy, but Lea can conserve energy turning on the inside of the circle. Lea's left jab hasn't been remarkable, but her right hand is devastating when delivered on target.
Our “expert” also provided a grainy, badly lit, cellphone video of a 2012 bout during one of those summer boxing cruises that showed Davidson KOing Seydoux in the sixth round! Each fighter won an early round close before Lea settled down and used her size to win the 3rd and 4th rounds. It looked like she was in control, but Davidson managed to get inside in the 5th and again in the 6th rounds - attacking Lea's body. She landed a combination in the second minute of round 6 that put an end to Lea's night. While Amy brought up that result at the drop of a hat, Lea refused to discuss it, saying only in passing, “...this time will be different.”
Tonight: Lea's body shows the result of her hard work getting into condition for the strenuous nude scenes in “Blue” and she looks terrific. Amy, her usual fit condition obvious, wearing a blue/red tartan print bandeau bikini; red hair in spunky ponytail; white gloves; and white shoes. Lea's in all black: black bikini, black gloves, black shoes. She even has her hair tied back by a black satin ribbon - apparently, for tonight at least, “black is her warmest colour”.
During R1: Seydoux using her size to control the action behind a good jab; using her right hand sparingly - but to good effect. Davidson her usual, high energy, up-tempo, self; not letting Lea get set or comfortable; always jumping in, punching, then getting out before Seydoux can do any damage. Seydoux controlling the fight with her length, Davidson setting the tempo with her feet. It's a good tactical round for both women who are each doing pretty much what they want with neither able to get the upper hand for more than a few seconds at a time. Judges split on the results, but it's a consensus “close” going Seydoux' way.
R2: Second verse, same as the first. More of the same, neither feeling the need to change anything. Lea's long arms giving her the edge at distance, Amy's quick hands an advantage in close. Early in the round it's Lea's fight; later Amy starts to slip the jab and get in to land 2-3 punch combinations before retreating out of harm's way. Like the first this round was a judge's decision, but unlike the first round, this one went to Amy “close” to even the overall score.
R3: On comes Amy! Davidson feeling the momentum shifting her way, bouncing out of her corner, ducking under Lea's jab to get inside, then lighting up Seydoux's Oscar-worthy rack with a blistering body attack! Amy knows how to chop a bigger opponent down and she's putting on a clinic tonight. Lea wrongfooted from the bell, never able to settle into any kind of rhythm. Davidson, showing a veteran's guile, resorts to every manner of 'underdog' tactic; holding and hitting; stepping on Lea's feet; clutching and grabbing; she even goes rack just because she finds out it bothers the French vixen. Anything to get her off her game and play with her mind. Seydoux, however, is the one getting warnings from the referee - once for hitting on the break, and again when she grabs a handful of Davidson hair and whirls her around onto the ropes. At the bell, Amy grinning to her stool while there's steam coming out of Seydoux's ears.
R4: Lea getting an earful from her handlers between rounds, springing off her stool to take the fight to Amy in her own corner. Davidson frustrated early as Lea makes the necessary adjustments to keep her off her body for the most part, and when Amy does snuggle up close and tries to get personal, Frenchy's not above using her elbows to send the message Amy's not welcome in her kitchen. Referee's finger-wagging largely ignored by Seydoux who obviously would rather keep Amy away than worry about a point deduction at this point. Davidson finally getting the message late, taking abuse as a result of her unwillingness/inability to continue to fight her fight. Closing seconds see Lea landing large on little Amy who gets sent back to her corner with a (figurative) spanking this round - a round that goes Lea's way, albeit narrowly.
R5: More of the same. Lea's got Amy figured out and, so far, Davidson's been unable to figure out a strategy to counter it. Lea showing far more comfort fighting the little tiger at distance, using her reach to land at will while frustrating most of Davidson's attempts to get inside. On the rare occasion that Amy does close with her, Seydoux smothers her attack with clinches or bearhugs her until the referee forces a break. Lea not averse to using her fists either, kidney punching Davidson when she can, digging in under her elbows to put mileage on the petite puncher. Amy showing off her dance background; putting on a dance and jazzersize exhibition while Lea pretty much sticks to boxing. Amy manages to avoid taking major damage, but gives up points as Lea Seydoux punches to win the round by a wide margin.
R6: Lea in charge. Amy trying to regain the initiative early, but it's frustrating for the smaller fighter; she's behind; she can't set the tempo; she can't allow Lea to dictate the pace; she's reduced to reacting - which plays into the bigger girl's strength. Amy constantly frustrated; charging in, being repulsed; feinting, faking, ducking, lunging - and being smacked back at each and every turn. In the second minute, Amy is increasingly taking risks and it catches up with her. Coming forward, she runs into a short, chopping, Seydoux right hand. DAVIDSON'S DOWN! Amy's knees buckle briefly, then as she struggles to regain her balance, she's dropped on her backside by a left hook that catches her flush on the chin. Amy sits up, leaning back on her hands blinking in disbelief as Lea stands over her as if daring her to get up. While the referee pushes Lea backward into the corner, Amy rolls over onto all fours and climbs the ropes, shaking her head to stop the chirping birdies. From there, it's all Seydoux; punishing the smaller girl along the ropes with a withering body attack. Unable to fight her way off the ropes, Davidson resorts to bobbing and weaving; ducking and jiving; a lot of desperate clinching, and some bearhugs with her face buried deep in Seydoux's photogenic bosom. Amy also digs to Lea's body trying, in vain, to get off the ropes, but Seydoux uses her size and weight advantages to keep the smaller girl trapped for the remainder of the round. At the bell, the judges all agree....it's Seydoux wide in the sixth!
R7: Despite a distinctly 'roughed up' appearance, Davidson's managed to hang around longer than most thought she could. That comes to an abrupt end early in the round when Seydoux again traps Amy on the ropes. Fighting a bigger, stronger, woman has taken its toll on Davidson, who no longer has the spring in her step to avoid Lea who sweeps her up and carries her back into the ropes, then sets up on her chest and plugs away at the smaller diva's body. Under the constant barrage of blows, Amy's defenses crumble and this time when Lea chin-checks the little brunette, Amy goes down and, after struggling bravely to rise, she slumps defeated to the canvas as the referee tolls her out. Winner: Lea Seydoux, KO7
After: Lea's all sunshine and roses in the aftermath, ignoring her pique and saying all the right things about her opponent. “She was outgunned from the start,” Lea said, rhetorically patting herself on the back as she complimented her girl. “I don't know what her management was thinking putting her in the ring with me...or why the FCBA sanctioned the bout. I know you all heard that she'd beaten me before, but that was on a boat, in a stormy sea, and I was seasick. She's a tough...how you say, cookie? But I knew after I knock her down she would not rise.”
Amy was magnanimous in defeat, as if she had much choice. “Lea was the better woman tonight, I can't deny that. Still, I had my moments and my take-away from this fight is that I can compete with bigger women. I mean, really, I have to; because just about everyone is bigger'n I am.”
Asked about her future plans, Amy grinned and said, “I have several names for my management to contact. It's not like there are no fighters my size. Ricci's still out there, Hayek still thinks she can fight. I hear Lucy Liu's thinking about another comeback if 'Elementary' doesn't make it onto the schedule this fall. A girl always has options.”
A sneering reporter in a battered fedora asked her about a possible career change, “Have you given any thought to Munchkin Wrestling?”
From her expression, Amy clearly had not a clue what 'Munchkin Wrestling' was. “You mean those candy snacks?”
“No,” the wise-acre shot back, “it's the new PC term for what used to be called 'midget wrestling' - you know, you and a few other 'vertically challenged' girls like Ellen Page in a 'rasslin' ring.”
Amy threw her microphone at him and then stormed out .... unable to hide the grin on her face, however. |
