Amy Acker (Punchaholics Anonymous) vs Danneel Harris (Unmanaged)
(Words Anon, Results Lookout)
"How do I feel about this one? Great, obviously," stated Danneel Harris immediately before her match against Amy Acker. "I've got her on age and conditioning, and I don't think she's got the skill to make up for her obvious weaknesses. Not to overcommit or anything, but I really don't see her making it ten rounds without running out of steam."
"I don't think she's particularly serious," said Amy Acker, regarding her opponent. "I mean, I think she shows up, fights, has her time in the spotlight, and then moves on to other priorities. And that isn't me at all. I'm here to win."
Danneel Harris entered the ring in teal trunks and bra, to enthusiastic shouts from the crowd. Soon after, Amy Acker made her entrance wearing blue trunks and bra.
Round 1:
Both fighters came out of their corners as if they intended to finish things in the first minute. The audience was on their feet immediately, shouting encouragement to their favorite fighters as the action quickly heated up. It was Acker's fans that got the better show, however, as a quick jab to the jaw stopped Harris in her tracks, ending her momentum and forcing her to cover up as Acker pounded away freely. Still in the fight, Harris moved in to clinch, slowing her opponent down. Before Acker could push her away and free herself, Harris had landed a few strong body shots. Attempting to shut down her opponent's comeback, Acker jabbed and faded, blunting Harris' attack and preventing further damage. The round ended with the crowd still roaring, having seen fast action and a close result.
Round 2:
With both fighters possibly having spent their energy with little to show for it, the second round began much more slowly, with Harris in the center of the ring and Acker moving in to engage. Scoring an early hit that glanced off Harris' glove but nevertheless clipped the side of her head, Acker moved in to inflict real damage. However, Harris was able to chase her away. Nearly stuck in a corner, Acker slipped away in time. Again, Acker slugged away, this time landing a solid hook to her opponent's ribs, but once again Harris was able to rally and drive her off, trading solid hits at a slight advantage. Acker spent the round reacting to Harris, never able to make her own plays even as she did score notable hits.
Round 3:
After two very different but very close rounds, the audience was uncharacteristically quiet in anticipation of what might happen next. In fact, neither fighter seemed particularly sure of herself, but nevertheless they soon met in the center of the ring. Acker had the initiative, jabbing Harris on the nose and causing her own swing to fall short as she flinched. Harris recovered quickly, trying again after a moment, but as the round progressed she found herself slowly worn down by Acker's careful, quick strikes.
Round 4:
With the momentum on Acker's side, she took a more aggressive strategy in the fourth round. Moving to engage the somewhat reluctant Harris, she began to chip away at her opponent's defenses. No longer content with simply being in control of the fight, Acker was chasing Harris down when she tried to retreat, and though many of her attacks bounced off of Harris' guard, a few snuck through, shaking Harris and leaving her only able to get off minimal offense. Finally, Harris misjudged her position and found herself in the corner. Acker pounced, pummeling Harris' body and knocking her into the turnbuckle. Harris, ducking low and attempting to slip out of Acker's trap, dodged straight into a right hook to the face. The blow put her back in the corner, where the end of the round saved her shortly after from a severe beating.
Round 5:
Having finished the round in a dominant position, Acker seemed ready to finish off her struggling opponent. Though Danneel was still in the fight, and she proved it by landing a sharp one two combination on Acker early in the round, it was clear that the fight had taken its toll on her. Harris could still fight, but she was in no condition to be entirely successful at defending herself, and Acker's headhunting tactics paid off as the round progressed, allowing Acker to pull ahead further. In the second minute, Acker's attacks proved to be too much; Harris took a straight right hand on the chin and dropped her guard in a daze. Acker capitalized, twisting her body to swing with her left and knocking Harris' head to the side. Harris' hair flew in all directions as Acker continued the combination, landing a right hook to her opponent's temple. It was a solid blow, and it sent the woman's head wobbling. Harris seemed to go limp on her feet, sagging to her knees and finally landing on her stomach, arms at her sides. Before the count was even finished, Acker had an ecstatic grin on her face and was pumping a fist in the air, returning to her corner. Though Harris made it to her hands and knees by the time the count ended, it was not enough, awarding Acker a round 5 KO.
"I think we both what we wanted," said Acker in an interview shortly after. "I came here to win, and she came here to spend some time on camera. Yeah, the pictures where she's face down on the canvas aren't very flattering, but they'll keep her in the news for a little while, and with any luck it'll be a while before she has to fight again. Everybody's happy!"
