BEFORE:
"I'm superior to Perry in every way," says a smirking Gisele. "I am far more attractive, as everyone knows, and, tonight, I'll prove I'm better in the ring."
"Gisele needs to realize something," says Katy with a shake of the head. "The only reason she even gets BOOKED in the FCBA anymore is so they can put her on the poster. And, tonight, she's going to get 'posterized' in a whole different way."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Come On' by Blackcowboy you hear, and that can only mean The Brazilian Beauty Gisele Bundchen is on her way to the ring..."
McCarthy: "And, as I've said before, Bundchen is a typical Dancing Hooker opponent. One career win. Maybe I should have fought a bunch of girls like her so I could have GOTTEN INTO THE HALL OF FAME..."
Tess: "Here we go..."
O'Dell(sighing): "Bundchen into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a lovely sea foam green number that shows why she made millions modeling..."
McCarthy: "I should have been a model. If she made millions, I could have made JILLIONS!"
O'Dell(sighing): "And that's 'California Gurls' pounding through the arena, and here comes the singer of that tune, 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry!"
Cassie: "Perry down to light for tonight's bout. For some of the fans who may not know, she fights both at light and welter these days..."
McCarthy: "And moving her to welter was MY idea! I mentioned it on one of these broadcasts and Weirdo immediately did it! He's constantly stealing my ideas! I think he has my dressing room bugged! He might even have my house and office bugged!"
Tess: "Now, Mac, that's ridiculous! Isn't it, Cassie?"
Cassie(whistling)
McCarthy: "I KNEW IT! Siri, call my lawyer!"
O'Dell(sighing): "Couldn't make it to the first punch before we're threatening legal action. Perry into the ring, helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that red bikini she prefers and the crowd definitely likes what it sees..."
McCarthy: "If I were up there, nobody in the crowd would even be LOOKING at Perry..."
O'Dell: "And, the ladies are just about ready, so it's time for some picks. Tess favors Katy. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Perry's nothing special, but even SHE can beat Bundchen."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And there's the bell. Gisele quickly to the left jab. The Brazilian has the reach here and she wants some space. Katy bobbing and weaving, keeping the gloves up, snapping out the occasional jab of her own."
Tess: "Is Perry measuring her, Mac?"
McCarthy: "See, Scabbo, Walmart has been LISTENING to me for years, so she's LEARNING about boxing. That's EXACTLY what Perry's doing. She's trying to find spots, figure where she can score from against a girl with more reach."
O'Dell: "Gisele using that reach very well, and she's also putting together punches. As we saw against Decker right here at Asylum, Bundchen can box when she has the space to do so."
Cassie: "Got to think this round would have gone differently two years ago. THAT Katy would be aggressively going after Gisele, taking chances trying to make something happen."
O'Dell: "None of that from Katy this round. She's content to continue the feel out process. Gisele locating with the left, dropping in the odd right, finding range pretty well. Perry not very busy with the hands, but doing a lot with the feet. Down the stretch and Katy popping in to work some body at the bell. Not a ton of action, but Gisele's round."
McCarthy: "This is the fight Bundchen wants. If she gets it, she can pull the upset."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second round begins with a more active Katy. Perry moving, angling, now getting to those spots and getting off in combination, forcing the Brazilian to cover up against flurries of heavy leather."
Tess: "This is where Katy has the edge, in heavy exchanges. Gisele can't stand and trade with Perry. Katy has too much power."
O'Dell: "And that's exactly why Bundchen isn't doing it, I'd wager. Instead, Gisele backs, covers, plays defense, then looks to counter. Katy more than willing on these terms, getting more and more active as the round goes on."
McCarthy: "She's not crowding Gisele, but she's getting the distances she wants. She's where she needs to be to get off, and she's committing on those punches."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Gisele not taking chances with this. Willing to cover and give ground, fight back in spots. Not going to be drawn into an all-out battle where she's out-gunned. Katy, for her part, patient. Punching only from good spots. Nothing wild or unsound. There's the bell and a dominant round for Katy."
Tess: "And we're even at 19 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third round begins with more solid aggression from Katy. Perry moving constantly, popping from side to side, bouncing forward then sliding back and left, angling all over the place, creating distances she likes and getting off with both hands."
McCarthy: "Perry consistently backing Bundchen up. Gisele not trying to hold canvas, but, eventually, she's going to have to try, because if she doesn't, Perry's just going to roll over her."
O'Dell: "Katy all about boxing right now, though, putting nice combinations together. Gisele trying to keep the flurries short, looking to counter as much as she can, but mostly being suppressed."
Cassie: "She's like a besieged army. Needs the protection of her defenses to avoid being overwhelmed."
O'Dell: "That's certainly the way it looks. Gisele playing this smart and crafty, not going to make any heroic stands this early. Perry, for her part, continues to assault those defenses, working hard, throwing heavy, accurate leather, keeping the Brazilian on her back foot right to the bell. Second straight dominant round for Perry."
Tess: "29-28, but it feels a lot wider than that."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins with more movement and boxing from Katy, bobbing inside Gisele's jab, Bundchen now clinching when she does so, tying Perry up, pulling her head down with a glove behind the neck, working body with the free hand. Katy shoving free, but Gisele tying up again."
McCarthy: "This is one way to combat a disadvantage in quickness...or so I've heard. I've never actually HAD one when I was in the ring..."
O'Dell: "The Brazilian using that long reach to tie up Perry again and again. Katy getting frustrated, pushing and shoving to get free. Gisele wrapping behind the neck, tying up Perry's arms, always using the free hand to bang body and score points."
Cassie: "This looks ugly, but it's effective. Katy was in a good rhythm, and this has slowed her to a crawl."
O'Dell: "That she has, and Gisele, who was definitely getting the worst of it the last two rounds, giving as good as she gets as they slog down the stretch. Perry continuing to try to push off, but Gisele tying up, wrapping up, not letting Katy get any work done. There's the bell. Close, but Bundchen's round."
Tess: "38-38 after four."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth round begins and Perry back to the attack, but, again, Gisele fouling it up as she ties up, clinches, and wrestles in there. Perry shoving free, but as soon as she does so, Bundchen ties up again."
McCarthy: "Gisele doing two things right now. First, she's tying up Katy's right arm, making it impossible for her to throw power punches inside. Second, she's pulling her head down over and over again."
O'Dell: "And she's pulling Katy forward with that arm around the head, getting her in close so that Gisele can tie up. Katy continues to work hard to wrestle free, but she can only manage a punch or two before she's tied up again."
Tess: "Gisele not doing a lot of punching herself, but she is working body with the free hand and landing the odd shot to the head as she pulls Perry in."
O'Dell: "And she's using those long arms to tie Katy up every time Perry starts to punch. Katy needs to renegotiate terms here, because, right now, Gisele is getting her way. She's not scoring a lot, but she's scoring more than Katy, and that's all she has to do. There's the bell ending the fifth, and Bundchen in the lead."
Cassie: "48-47 Gisele, and she's got to be happy with where she's sitting at the half way point."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Sixth round underway and we're right back to the slog as Gisele quickly ties up Katy who now punches free and bangs that body while she's doing so. Katy no longer trying to shove or wrestle loose, she's just punching out of it."
McCarthy: "If she had anyone who knew anything about boxing in her corner, they'd have told her that two rounds ago!"
O'Dell: "Bundchen still trying to wrap Katy up, but Perry working hard, thumping that body with both hands, now working upstairs and back down, staying busy, pistoning the gloves, being slowed down some by Gisele's clutch and grab, but not stopped."
Cassie: "And she's getting some good work done, Jenny, especially to the body. Katy getting the shoulders and hips into those punches, and you can see Gisele grimacing on some of them."
O'Dell: "Perry backing Bundchen up a bit with a right hand. Gisele flurrying back, then tying up, but Katy punches free again and lands a nice hook to the head. Gisele wrapping around Perry's neck, but Katy still thumping that body, pounding away right to the bell. Good round for Perry."
Tess: "Renegotiated those terms like you said, Jenny. And she's evened the fight at 57."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Seventh underway and Katy back to work on the body. Perry not even trying to get to middle distances now. She's closing, allowing Gisele to tie her up, and punching free, banging down low with both hands."
Cassie: "Give Bundchen credit, this is heavy stuff and she's shipping it. She's flinching, but she's not dropping the guard."
O'Dell: "She is not, and she's not giving up on the clutch and grab, either. Gisele not about to trade with Katy in close. Instead, the Brazilian slowing Perry down with the clinches, punching with the free hand, playing things very safe."
McCarthy: "This is good tactical fighting from Bundchen. She's slowing Katy down and forcing her to use a lot of energy to punch free of the clinches."
O'Dell: "Katy able to keep doing it, however, again beginning to work her way up as the round goes on. Backs Gisele up with a good left hook, then thumps the body before there's another tie up. Final seconds of the round tick off, and a solid round for Perry."
Tess: "And Katy back in the lead now, 67-66."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Eighth round underway and Katy not advancing now. Gisele going to her jab and beginning to work it the way she did in the first. Perry actually giving ground, backing toward the ropes, keeping the hands up, looking to counter as Gisele now works forward, trying to feed in rights off that left jab."
Tess: "What's going on here, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Just like I said last round, Perry had to use a lot of energy fighting out of those clinches. She may be arm weary and might have to cede the offensive."
O'Dell: "That's exactly what she's doing, Mac. Katy on the ropes in a high guard, playing Britney Spears. We've never seen this from Perry before, but she looks competent in the pocket. Gisele, meanwhile, sound and accurate as she usually is at distance. She's staying at arm's range, banging home jabs, slipping in rights."
Cassie: "Katy picking some of this off, fouling the aim on others with head and shoulder movement, but Gisele IS scoring."
O'Dell: "And Katy isn't, for the most part. She's landing some counters in spots, but Bundchen is in command as we come down the stretch. Final seconds ticking off and Gisele in a nice rhythm. Left hands popping, the odd hard right landing, and there's the bell. Emphatically Gisele's round."
Tess: "And we are all even after eight."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "Ninth begins with Gisele coming forward again and she's halted with a barrage of leather! Perry all over Bundchen early, letting both hands go and sending the Brazilian into retreat. Gisele covering up and backing up as Katy sending loads of heavy shell her way."
Cassie: "Katy may have taken that last round off, but she's back to work in this one!"
O'Dell: "She is at that. Perry bouncing and circling, angling and flurrying. Bundchen wants to tie up, but Katy keeps the leather flying, forcing Bundchen to back and cover."
Tess: "The old Perry would be all in for a knockout here, but Katy taking her time, working soundly, and taking the fight to Gisele."
O'Dell: "Bundchen backed to the ropes. Katy thumping away at her high guard, going body to try to bring it down. Gisele taking a thumping to the ribs and abs, crouching to try to cover, Perry right back upstairs, then hooking back to the body. Bundchen totally suppressed, trying to counter but can't find space to do it. There's the bell and a big, shutout round for Katy."
McCarthy: "But she's still only up 86-85 with one to go. Anyone's fight."
ROUND TEN:
O'Dell: "We're into the tenth and Bundchen off her stool aggressively, clearly knows she can win this thing, but Katy firing right back and here we go! Toe to toe action for the first time in the fight. Gisele going all in here and Perry going right in with her!"
McCarthy: "Bundchen's been avoiding this because of Perry's power, but she knows how close the fight is. Get this round and she could win it."
O'Dell: "And Katy backs her up with a big flurry! Perry coming forward, driving Gisele back again and again now, with barrages of heavy fire. Bundchen trying to hold ground but can't. Can't sustain the offensive, either. Perry forcing her to cover up, drives her back to the ropes where Gisele is looking to counter..."
Cassie: "This is great stuff from Perry. Didn't get wild and sloppy trying to finish. Kept working soundly and let her physical advantages take over."
O'Dell: "And that's exactly what they've done. Bundchen backed to the ropes and unable to get off. Perry WHACKING her to the head and body with both hands, getting plenty on those right hands as we head down the stretch. Gisele countering occasionally but, as the final seconds tick off, it's all Katy Perry. There's the bell. Perry gets it wide, and, if our cards are right, she's won the fight."
Tess: "We have it two points, not a bad showing by Bundchen."
O'Dell: "Decision being announced, coming back 96-94 for your winner by UD10, 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Katy Perry, and, Katy, no big power punches in this one, just a good exhibition of boxing and a nice win..."
Katy: "Thanks, Tess. I hit her some good shots, but she took them. She's got a chin. She went the distance with Decker, too, and Brooke can hit. But, I don't have to knock girls out to win anymore. I can box. I can score points. I can win rounds. And I can beat you on the cards."
Tess: "What's next for you?"
Katy: "Well, Atkinson's got to be full of herself after that win over Tyler. Maybe she and I'll go catchweight, if she's game. She can make 133, right?" |
