BEFORE:
"This is a big opportunity for me," says Dichen with a gorgeous smile. "It's not easy to get noticed when you're an indie and it's hard to get consistent work. But, beating Pink here in Philly? That'll make a splash."
"I know what this is about for this girl," says Pink with a nod. "The plan is to pull the big upset. Well, Pinkness has other plans and they involve Dichen counting lights."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Boom Clap' by Charli XCX, and here comes the lovely Dichen Lachman!"
McCarthy: "Dichen, as you know, is the FCBA's top ranked Nepalese-born fighter..."
Cassie: "Where IS Nepal, Mac?"
McCarthy: "It's an island in the South Pacific! Everyone knows that!"
Cassie: "Just checking..."
Tess: "Annnnnnd feel free to mark your 'Mac Is Geographically Challenged' squares on your bingo cards..."
McCarthy: "What ARE you two babbling about?"
O'Dell(sighing): "I swear I'm going to ask that Wiz stop bringing in anyone from anyplace more exotic than Oxnard. Lachman into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a lovely red number that shows off an in-shape body and that's 'Trouble' pounding through the arena and here comes 'The Queen of Front Street', Pink..."
McCarthy: "I'd rather be the Queen of Oxtard..."
O'Dell: "OxNAR...never MIND..."
Cassie: "Go to your happy place, Jenny..."
Tess: "Where IS your happy place?"
O'Dell: "Anywhere but HERE. Pink down the aisle and into the ring. Helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that black bikini with the white skulls on it she likes, and we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess favors Pink. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Pink is an overrated Dancing Hooker who ducked me for YEARS. I'm going with Lachman in an upset."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess."
O'Dell: "There's the bell. Pink right after Dichen, working past the taller girl's defenses and going to work on that tight body. Lachman wants space, but Pink not giving it to her, right up in Dichen's grill and letting the leather go to the body."
Cassie: "Lachman does not want to grind with Pink. Pink is as physical as any bantam in the FCBA. There's no percentage in this kind of fight for Dichen."
O'Dell: "But, Pink liking it just fine, and she's imposing will very early here. Lachman retreating, trying to circle, doing whatever she can to get space, but Pink relentless with the pressure. Lachman's guard high and Pink taking all the body she wants at discount prices."
McCarthy: "Lachman showing Pink too much respect right now. She needs to counter more, stand her ground some. She doesn't want to bang with Pink, but she can't just retreat, either."
O'Dell: "Lachman working hard to stay off the ropes and managing it, but that's about all she's managing. Pink bullying her around the ring, thumping that body, only going upstairs occasionally. Final seconds ticking off, and there's the bell. Excellent first round for Pinkness."
Tess: "And the Front Streeter has the early 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with more pressure from Pink. Lachman circling, jabbing for space, but Pinkness working past the gloves and banging body. Dichen firing back in there, holding her ground, not backing and covering."
McCarthy: "This is what she has to do. Lachman doesn't have to thump with Pink, but she can't give her a free entry. She's got to exact a price when Pink closes."
O'Dell: "And that's what she's doing now. Dichen circling, Pink cutting the ring and closing. Lachman scoring as the singer works in, countering as Pink flurries, then circling away. Pink staying after the taller girl. Not going to give her space. The exchanges are short because Lachman wants them that way, but they're plenty sharp."
Cassie: "This is good stuff from both girls. Both are getting some of what they want and scoring when they do. Lachman holding her own now, though, not getting bullied around."
O'Dell: "That, she most definitely is NOT. Dichen not retreating, exacting that price Mac talked about as Pink works forward. Pinkness willing to pay it to get in and thump the body. Good two-way action for the entire three minutes and there's the bell. Close one, but I have it for Lachman."
Tess: "Which makes it 19 all after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "We're in the third now, and Pink still pressuring. It's been steady work from the Front Streeter from the opening bell. Lachman again accurate with the jab, scoring as Pink works forward then countering as she flurries before circling away. Good, two-way stuff."
Cassie: "Dichen showing a lot of discipline here. She's hanging in long enough to score, but not too long. She's keeping them short without bailing out of there."
O'Dell: "Pink just keeps working away, paying a lot of attention to the body, but doing her share of work upstairs, too. Very methodical, in, flurry, and then back to cutting the ring to set up the next flurry."
Tess: "Lachman showing some sting on those punches, too. She's got some power. Pink's taking it without a problem, but those are good shots."
O'Dell: "As are the shots Pink is landing, especially to the midsection of Lachman which is, no pun intended, pinking up. Dichen responding with some good counters then slipping away, circling, jabbing, as Pink works to cut and close. Final seconds tick off and there's the bell. Another close one, but Lachman, I think."
McCarthy: "29-28 for Dichen after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Into the fourth and Pink slowly upping the aggression. She's working forward and thumping away as she has throughout the fight, but she's putting more behind the punches now, walking through Lachman's jabs, crowing her, cutting her off, extending the exchanges despite the counter punches."
Cassie: "Lachman trying to hang in there, but she's being backed up again. Pink just a little stronger, and it's beginning to show up."
O'Dell: "Lachman in a fighting retreat, bitterly contesting each inch of canvas, but she's being forced back, cut off, now trapped against the ropes for the first time and Pink firing away with both hands. Dichen ties up, forces a break, gets some space, but Pink right back on her."
McCarthy: "Lachman needs to stay in and bang right now. She's got to punch for respect."
O'Dell: "Dichen trying to do that, but Pink starting to suppress her offense down the stretch. Pink taking more and more control as this round goes on, working upstairs most of the time, but not ignoring the body, out-gunning Lachman in the exchanges right to the bell. Wide round for Pinkness."
Tess: "And we're even at 38 after four."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth underway and Pink turning the heat up even more. The Front Streeter going AFTER Lachman, walking through some heavy right hands to get there and then dishing out the hurt. Dichen firing right back and we need to reserve some space on Pier Six, ladies!"
McCarthy: "Fans loving this as these two bantams go after each other, really firing away now."
O'Dell: "Good right hand from Lachman! Pink firing back and DOWN GOES DICHEN! Big left hook from Pinkness and Lachman dropped to her back!"
Cassie: "Pink a natural lefty, so that left hook is very dangerous."
O'Dell: "Pink to a neutral corner. Count at three, four, five, six. Dichen to her feet at seven. Referee giving her the mandatory, and he's going to allow it to continue. And on comes Pink, driving Lachman back to the ropes!"
McCarthy: "Dichen needs to move here. She's got to get out of there!"
O'Dell: "Pink not having it, keeping Dichen pinned to the ropes. Wobbles her with a right hand. Left hook and Lachman's knees give a shimmy."
Tess: "Pink all about the finish right now..."
O'Dell: "BIG right hand snaps back the head! Dichen holding on, covering up, UPPERCUT from Pink and Lachman slumps into the ropes and IT'S OVER! Referee jumping in and your winner by TKO5 is 'The Queen of Front Street', Pink!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Pink, and, Pinkness, you were clearly going after the stoppage in that fifth round..."
Pink: "This girl can box some, Tess, so what you don't want to do is let her hang around and you're holding your breath when it goes to the cards. Take her out of there and there's less stress, you know?"
Tess: "What's next for you?"
Pink: "Onward and upward, looking for a shot at those straps." |
