"I don't think she's as unbeatable as her record makes her look," said Nicki Minaj before the match. "I mean, look at her opponents. Almost all flyweights. I'm not sure what she thinks she's proving by picking on smaller women. And I'm not sure who allowed these fights in the first place. The point is, she's in a real fight now. No weird rules or funny gimmicks. And I don't think she's ready for that."

"I think Nicki needs to take a look at herself before she insults other people," replied Christy Hemme when she learned of her opponent's comments. "What's she done that's so great? For someone who's going to beat me she sure does spend a lot of time asleep on the canvas. They're going to carry her out of that ring. That's all there is to it."

Nicky Minaj entered the ring in pink trunks and bra, followed shortly after by Christy Hemme in white. Probably thanks to their comments, the atmosphere was somewhat tense, with a few unpleasant stares exchanged between the two corners.

Round 1:
In the first round, each fighter chose to carefully test out her opponent's defenses. Minaj liked what she found. Able to pre-empt Hemme's attacks on several occasions, the rapper had her opponent in a tight spot by the halfway point. Unable to gain traction, Hemme's determined resistance managed to turn what would have been a one sided beating into a mere ordinary loss.

Round 2:
Continuing to struggle as the fight progressed, Hemme pressed on nevertheless. With Minaj comfortably in control, the wrestler was absorbing counter punches nearly every time she made a move. Midway through the round, as Hemme moved to clinch in an attempt to give herself a much needed breather, her opponent caught her solidly on the jaw, stopping her in her tracks. In full damage control mode, Hemme gambled and took a swing at Minaj to give herself some space, only to absorb a hook to the side of the head before she could finish her attack. Before Hemme could rebuild her defenses, Minaj had effortlessly batted her head back and forth twice. In serious danger of collapsing at any second, Hemme managed to stave off Minaj's follow ups, surviving to the bell on unsteady legs.

Round 3:
Though her face was showing signs of battle damage, the break between rounds seemed to have allowed Hemme sufficient time to recover. Warily trading jabs with her opponent, the wrestler had managed to recover from a disastrous start. Though the occasional bomb from Minaj threatened to put her right back where she started, Hemme was able to end the third round having given better than she got.

Round 4:
Looking to put a stop to Hemme's comeback attempt, Minaj started the fourth round aggressively. Scoring a few hits early, the rapper began to have more difficulty as the round progressed. By the halfway point, Hemme had taken control, repeatedly putting Minaj on the defensive. The massive change of direction that the fight seemed to have taken seemed to frustrated Minaj, and where she became reckless, Hemme remained careful, punishing her opponent without overextending.

Round 5:
With the potential for an early win now having thoroughly escaped her, Minaj settled in for a longer fight in the fifth round. Carefully trading swings with Hemme, she was rewarded with the odd hit and her opponent's frustration, despite her slightly shorter reach. Hemme was able to strike back on occasion, but Minaj kept enough pressure on her to keep the wrestler from gaining any ground. Hemme's disappointed expression and slouching posture after the bell rang were enough to tell the story of this round.

Round 6:
The start of round six saw a spirited exchange that had the crowd cheering with excitement, but when both fighters saw they were making little headway, the action cooled down a bit. Still, two thirds of the way through the round, Hemme was able to sneak a straight punch past Minaj's guard, knocking her head backwards and causing her to stumble slightly. Minaj struck back with more enthusiasm than success, finding Hemme an uncooperative target. The wrestler was able to land a few more blows before the round ended, as Minaj's performance seemed to be suffering slightly.

Round 7:
Seemingly encouraged by her success in the previous round, Hemme went all in during round seven. Scoring an early blow to her opponent's jaw that sent her hair flying, Hemme looked to be well on her way to taking control of the fight. However, Minaj held on tenaciously, occasionally getting a counterattack in as her opponent pounded her guard. By the halfway point in the round, the dynamic had begun to shift. Hemme, clearly running out of steam, had begun to weaken, and Minaj was happy to take advantage of the situation. After one of Hemme's swings fell short, Minaj countered with a straight right to the nose that put Hemme's defenses in complete disarray. Things only got worse from there for the wrestler as her opponent continued to batter her head back and forth. At some point in the exchange, Hemme's nose began to bleed, staining her upper lip bright red. Finally Minaj put an end to the beating with a right hook that left Hemme's legs limp and allowed her to sink to the canvas for a badly needed break. Minaj, expressionless, strutted back to her corner, ignoring the count going on behind her. Showing incredibly determination, Hemme was on her hands and knees by the halfway point, and on her feet before the referee could finish counting. The wrestler returned to the fight in bad shape, but managed to survive to the bell.

Round 8:
While Hemme had recovered between the rounds, she was still not at her best, and Minaj could definitely tell. Opening with an obvious feint that caused an overreaction from her opponent, Minaj followed up with a left hand that snapped Hemme's head back and reopened her bloodied nose. As Hemme made a desperate, last ditch attack to turn things around, Minaj easily pre-empted her with a blow to the jaw. Hemme tipped backwards, arms out in a futile attempt to regain her balance, and crashed to the mat face up. A few droplets of blood stained the mat beside her face as she stared at the ceiling blankly. Minaj shouted triumphantly and swung her fist in the air, taking a short jog back and forth, as if she was not quite ready to let her opponent quit. However, the rapper would not get her way; the count ended with Hemme still almost completely unresponsive, leaving Minaj free to celebrate as the doctors surrounded her dazed opponent.

With the medical crew still attending Hemme, Minaj addressed the press, obviously still not entirely ready to return to her usual demeanor. "Not as unbeatable as she looked, was she? I think once she realizes what happened, she'll take a break from the ring to learn how to handle a fair fight. Let her nap for now, though, she obviously needs it."
