AMANDA RIGHETTI VS JODI LYN O'KEEFE Result: Simguy, from a while back Words: Bonzo Before: O’Keefe a broad-bodied, naturally-strong fighter: fearless in her pre-fight demeanor, she’s obviously relishing this surprising PPV shot to make waves and get some overdue career momentum. After a frustrating title loss to her biggest redhead rival Cassidy Freeman in her first fight of the year, and following an unusually long stretch of inactivity in the last seven months after the boards’s management shake-up, Righetti’s now looking to get back into action on a high note and hopes to shut out an underrated, yet often highly-touted dark horse challenger, who’s got the body, and plenty of motivation for an upset. “You know, I was kinda surprised to get the call for this fight, to tell you the truth”, Jodi reveals in pre-interview. “We’ve always felt that there was noticeable respect – I’m not going to use the word “fear” - in the Righetti camp in regards to my body-strength. I’ve tried to get this fight a few times, and their responses always felt like ducking to me. But fair enough, she’s here now. I appreciate that. I can definitely say that, at least from her point of view, ducking me’s been a pretty good choice. There isn’t any girl in welter with my natural physicality, including ‘Manda herself. This should be fun. Ugly it may become, but not for me.” Fight:
R1: O'Keefe busier in the first round, while Righetti’s comfortable just feeling her out a bit. Big girls in similar stances – moving forward behind respective, strong jabs. Jodi careful, but engaging closer soon, obviously extremely eager to prove equally body-strong with Amanda, refusing to back down when occasionally hit in return. Keefe a stunning sight: sturdy/stout brunette also more agile than expected, using thick jabbing to dominate first round on her leg terms. Righetti never truly in trouble at all, but looking too inactive against the fast-moving, encircling Jodi. Keefe with a great start, smiles at the bell, as first-round plan materializes well enough. R2: Second round in similar fashion – Amanda cautiously behind a tight guard, letting Jodi continue, then up her initiative. Keefe looking strong: slightly imitating her opponent’s usual jab-power, she’s a good technician, driving redhead backwards with furious lefts. Some chin contacts middle in the round seem to offer a perspective for Keefe, but Amanda able to fall into messy clinches when she needs to, cleverly bodying Jodi into her corner. Keefe a bit too eager in these instances: she’s more active and occasionally gets through, but her attacks remain too obvious to do any damage to a prudent Righetti defense. Still, Jodi impresses a lot of people, looking first class-like as she dominates the canvas throughout most of the round. Not much from Amanda – some people ringside are starting to talk about six-month rust having taken a toll on the redhead. R3: Righetti more motivated off at bell, now leading with her own jab, finally engages in close body battles mid-ring, refusing to let Jodi drive her backwards like she was able to in the first two rounds. Very attractive two-way round ensues as a result: both girls with some clean contact shots, but neither is able to separate herself. Righetti a lot less lethargic than before, but then falling a bit off the pace during the final minute. Keefe almost hopping into redhead-busting body shots, as she takes over the action, probably deciding a close round with a series of shattering rights that just ever-so-slightly seem to wobble Righetti’s knees right before the bell. Keefe with a half-smirk as she walks into her corner: that was her third round in a row after all. R4: Keefe trying to look dominant early, vigorously jabbing into quickly back-pedalling redhead. Righetti responds in firm fashion, though: finally gets it going, as she batters herself out of corner – jab, jab, right, and then jab, jab, right again, with Keefe stumbling backwards on impact, as Righetti follows it up setting herself up into her typical, dominant jab-stance. Redhead weight-of-shot finally registering on brunette body, but Jodi recovers mid-round, answers back, bouncing on the spot, feinting shots, then bobs-into tight Righetti offense. Trading starts to get more furious, and both welter bodies are being tested, but Righetti’s much more controlled now, licking Keefe rights across waist, tits, then throwing sweet, economical up-jabs onto the on-coming Keefe’s chin thrice late right when brunette opens up for a straight right – Jodi’s right misses, as she’s stumbling on spot right there, wincing, hurt. Righetti’s round, then, as she convincingly backs up Keefe during the whole final minute rope-side. R5: O'Keefe’s had her momentum killed off last round: needs to prove resilient now body-to-body. Does right that. Jodi really focused, intensifying body damage to mid-section, as she’s working hard to regain the initiative. In response, Righetti’s content to go back into her earlier defense mode, much to her corner’s chagrin, and soon she is getting punched with a masterful right hook across the hairline as girls hurtle into each other at the ropes – brunette driving home combinations to do stomach-damage to follow up. Righetti’s strong legs unhinge a bit before she’s able to stabilize herself in a tight clinch, groaning, then stumbling forward into the strong brunette, her hair damp on Jodi’s shoulders. Intense big-girl battle now: quivering thighs; messy in-fight scenes with brutal body shots as welter women fight shoulder to shoulder. Jodi’s a bit more effective throughout the round, hitting cleaner and steadier to take the fifth. R6: Girls trading rights, holding nothing back from the beginning – this is a battle for dominance. Amanda’s masterful footwork and jabbing power lead her to success after a while: Jodi’s punch rate drops, she’s getting cornered, and Righetti DROPS Jodi with a clean combination on nose and forehead that takes the brunette DOWN on her knees. Brunette shakes off the pain; stumbles upwards, angry with herself. Righetti then starts trapping Jodi at ropes again soon, eager to finish. Her broad back glistening with workwoman sweat, as she hammers those jabs into target, waiting for that one open spot to use the right, when suddenly, out of nowhere, Jodi COUNTERS. Amanda perhaps a bit too comfortable in her aggression, opens up just a bit after a combination, taking too long to decide on how to follow up, and O’Keefe counters off the ropes like a stinging bee. The sudden shot hits Righetti on the mouth: Amanda’s head awkwardly bends to the side, her eyes roll back into her head, and the redhead sputters down on all fours. Amanda almost tipping over onto her side, too: a lot of people in the audience mistaking this for a clean one-punch knockout, but Amanda musters her energy before rolling over completely, and regains her senses to stay on her fours. Jodi bellowing down, held by the ref, as Amanda’s taking deep breathes. Pure willpower pulls Righetti up – she’s a swaying, confused beauty, but she is somehow standing on firm feet and strong legs when the ref gets to ten, and she’s good enough to go. Thankfully for Amanda, only twenty seconds are left, and despite Jodi valiantly pounding at the Righetti defense, it’s not enough to follow up. What a round – knockdowns cancel each other out in a welter slugfest R6 draw. R7: Pundits wondering pre-round 7: no sign yet of the methodical long-stretched Righetti dominance –with JLK ahead on the cards, will this be a different fight than expected? But Amanda shakes off last round’s damage, gets right back on top: she’s able to keep O'Keefe at ropes almost bell to bell. Still, this is subdued Righetti control, you can see she was hurt and shocked by Jodi’s comeback-knockdown last round, definitely respecting the power of those brunette counters. Jodi’s taking this round to recover a bit, too; both ladies are weirdly holding something back. Amanda on top, if you want, but it’s more about keeping the necessary distance to stay safe from Jodi fists than to actually go out and kick Jodi’s ass. Like that is stays until the bell: no hard shots landing on either target, but Righetti’s controlling the action quite masterfully through her much-superior footwork to trap strong opponent in safe territory where she can’t do no damage. R8: Righetti now ramping up the work rate, dominates Jodi bell-to-friggin’-bell. O'Keefe still competitive early on: she's fighting, valiantly so, but starts to fall off redhead pace after a while. As she’s got Jodi trapped near ropes in a thick defense, Amanda uses position to wreck brunette body, completely smothering O’Keefe’s offensive attempts with heartless, crippling jabs to the face, goes on interspersing those pump-gun punches that leave little cuts and dents all over poor brunette face with just-as-heartless body-cracking rights, numbing Jodi with punishment and superior weight-of-shot. Jodi sorely shocked and hurt by the onslaught, teetering into Amanda occasionally, more pushing than punching, only to be sadly battered backwards with authority, unable to go into punch-to-punch, toe-to-toe any longer. Redhead committed, but not yet seeing finishing openings, as Jodi’s obviously getting wrecked, but the strong-legged brunette has still got her hands up, keeping her defenses somewhat controlled, then she’s even trying to jab back late in the round! Just a slight contact to Amanda’s chin, but it’s enough to convince Righetti it’s not time to go all in yet. Jodi disheveled after 8, as Righetti separates herself on the cards. R9: Jodi coming into round shabby, slow: Amanda rightly senses increasing weakness in her opponent, pours it on big time. It is the Righetti position audiences know so well: standing firm on strong, muscular-thick legs, she’s trapping Jodi where she wants her to be, in the corner, weakening with every shot, using that wonder of a jab and the never-ending energy to pound out an oxygen-deprived brunette opponent. Jodi so hurt, so sad: eyes blink away tears of both pain and heart-felt frustration: this was such a good fight for her, she’s been able to do almost exactly what she had wanted to do, but now it’s starting to fall apart bit by bit, with every subsequent Amanda jab cutting little bruises into Jodi’s shocked, mouth-open face. O’Keefe so tough: she’s keeping her hands up, trying to hit back, but her body is hurting more and more. Righetti with so much fire in her eyes now – knows this is it, as O'Keefe's front crumbles into shatters. Righetti stabilizing Jodi on the spot, using those cruel forearms to press into brunette chest, hooking tenderized ribs again and again, as O’Keefe sags backwards into the ropes, her hair all sweaty, her lashes fluttering, lips parted, an empty, glassy glaze in her eyes. Amanda interchanges rib-crushing hooks with chopping rights to face. Jodi swooning forward into redhead body, not going down, but Amanda just keeps on punching and pushing until Jodi reels backwards. A huge right crushes through porous defenses onto Jodi’s nose late: that might have been the best, cleanest punch of the night, and the shellacked brunette groans pitifully on impact, as her eyes roll back – O’Keefe sniveling, coming apart as the pain from her nose emanates all over her body, and within an instant upon the contact, her arms finally drop, her whole body sagging backwards in relaxation: Jodi’s completely helpless now, taking a beating at ropes on auto-pilot AND the ref steps in with authority to end the sheer brutality that is a TKO9 Amanda Righetti! After: Rust? It did take Amanda Righetti some good rounds of lethargy to get on track against an underrated, strong opponent, but look at poor, proud Jodi now! She is a mess, still held up by the ref, but then sags down onto her haunches post-TKO stoppage, spent and beaten all the way, looking down. Righetti the victorious vixen, but you can see in her eyes she’s been tested tonight. She’s bruised, too and quite a bit more shaky than usual after winning. So frustrating for Jodi Lyn O’Keefe - she succumbs to the old rule Righetti’s opponents suffer from so many times: knocking her down won’t be enough if you can’t knock her out. Redhead with a stunning comeback into the new SSB; clearly showing she’s ready for the reinvigorated Bridget Regan, and her other redhead nemesis.
