BEFORE:
"Always glad to get a chance to work at Asylum," says Tracy with a gorgeous smile. "It's a second home for us Bazz girls. But it's serious business tonight. Leven's cool and all, but she's dangerous. And I need to get in there, put friendship aside, and take CARE of business."
"This is a big one for me, no doubt," says Leven with a nod. "The last one didn't go well, and I'm in a crowded weight at Front Street. I need to show management what I am, the best of our young bantams, and that's just what I'm going to do."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Stray Heart' by Green Day, and making her way to the ring is the star of that video, 'The Houston Solution', Leven Rambin..."
McCarthy: "And don't start any CRAP about Weirdo having class by letting Spiridakos come down second since she won her last time here..."
Cassie: "Well, I don't HAVE to mention it, because YOU just did..."
McCarthy: "I DIDN'T...I mean...he DOESN'T...she...Weirdo...NEVERMIND!"
O'Dell(sighing): "Leven into the ring. Helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve, and there's that bubblegum pink number she's been wearing..."
Tess: "I DO have to talk fashion with Wiz and Av. That color is AWFUL..."
O'Dell: "And that's 'Blitzkreig Bop' pounding through the arena, and that can only mean that Bazz's own Tracy Spiridakos is on her way to the ring!"
Tess: "Cassie, how is it that all the Bazz girls have classical music for their intros except you and Tracy?"
Cassie: "Well, Uncle Wiz picked mine, 'White Rabbit'. As for Tracy, I seem to recall Pointy came up with the idea after he and Uncle Wiz had been out one night and someone played this on the jukebox like, ten times in a row. Pointy was singing it under his breath for DAYS..."
McCarthy: "What is this, 'Behind The Music'? Let's get back to BOXING!"
O'Dell: "Tracy into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a white bikini and a body built on the Bazz hill. The ladies are just about ready, so let's get some picks. Tess likes Tracy. Mac?"
McCarthy: "I've said before that this Rambin kid might have been something if she'd stayed at Lookout!, but, here, she's doomed. Spiridakos, easy."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess."
O'Dell: "It's unanimous, and here we go. Quickly we see a contrast in styles and fight plans. Tracy a tall bantam at 5'6", but even she isn't as rangy as Leven. The blonde a full 5'8", and she's using that reach early, striking out hard left hands, stopping Tracy as she tries to weave close."
McCarthy: "We've seen Spiridakos before, and we know she likes to work inside. Rambin not having any at the moment."
O'Dell: "She is not. The blonde right on target with that left. She's slowing Tracy's advances, setting her up for right hands. Good feet from both fighters. Lots of footwork going on as Tracy tries to get past the blonde's pickets, but doesn't have much success."
Cassie: "Tracy is a very hard-hitting bantam as we've seen. She hasn't lost since her first fight against Fonseca two years ago. She'll find a way in, and when she does, she's going to give Leven problems."
O'Dell: "She may at that, but we may not find out in the first. We're down to 30 seconds, and Leven controlling things with the left jab. She's fitting in the odd right, but not pushing anything. The blonde wants to box, and she's getting that done to the bell."
Tess: "Good first for Leven. 10-9 after one."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins on familiar terms. Leven wants distance, Spiridakos wants to close. Tracy bobbing and weaving, managing to work inside now, setting up some big exchanges. Rambin firing back and we've got some good leather flying."
McCarthy: "Leven responding, but this is where Spiridakos wants to be. She wants to bring that power to bear."
O'Dell: "And that's what she does! Leven is ROCKED with a right hook and wobbled back into the ropes! Tracy going to work with Rambin in a high guard. The blonde puts the body on sale, and Spiridakos buying, banging away downstairs, then working back up."
Tess: "This has got to be deja vu for Front Street! This is what Spiridakos did to Dennings the last time she was here."
O'Dell: "Tracy getting off strong, looking for the off switch. Rambin hanging in, starting to shake it off and fire back. Final seconds ticking away and Rambin going to survive the round. There's the bell. Big round for Spiridakos."
Cassie: "19-19 after two, but Tracy's got it going."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Spiridakos looking to keep it going in the third. Working inside and now going body some. Rambin jabbing, giving a little ground, using a back circle to get a little space for those long arms."
Cassie: "Good footwork all around again. Both of these girls move very well."
O'Dell: "And both moving a lot right now as they work to get the angles and spacing they want. Tracy working in, Leven jabbing and moving for space. Rambin with the legs back, getting some work done. Spiridakos doing the same."
McCarthy: "Tracy not your typical inside fighter. She doesn't go in necessarily to bang but to work. She really sets things up well."
O'Dell: "No question she's very promising, and she needs to be in a stable with Wilde and Michalka in her division. Tracy working hard at all times, getting the hands going, seizing every opportunity to land some leather. Approaching the bell in a good third round and there it is. Spiridakos gets it in a competitive one."
Tess: "And claims the lead 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth round begins and the pattern is set. Rambin with the long left, wants ranged work. Spiridakos with the bob and weave, wants to close and work at short distances. Both women again getting some of what they want. Tracy getting inside and banging."
Tess: "And Rambin smartly tying her up in there, forcing the referee to break, getting space."
O'Dell: "Where Leven goes back to the jab, picking off Tracy as she moves forward and ROCKING HER WITH A RIGHT HAND! Oh, Leven caught her with one and Spiridakos steppin' in fence post holes!"
Cassie: "A lot of bantams wouldn't be stepping anywhere, they'd be PRONE..."
O'Dell: "After a shot like that, no question. Rambin following up now, slowly backing Tracy up with accurate fire. Banging away with both hands. Spiridakos trying to counter, but mostly being suppressed. Leven looking for the 'off' switch, but not pressing. Sound, solid, accurate. Down the stretch we come. Tracy trying to get off, but not able to do much. Rambin banging away, lining her up and scoring solid. Three. Two. One. Bell. End of the fourth and a wide round for Leven evens it."
McCarthy: "38-38 after four."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth begins with Rambin now making with the pressure and Tracy responding in kind. We've got some more heavy, back-and-forth banging going on right in the center of the ring, Mac."
McCarthy: "Two big, sturdy bantams, so they can handle it, but, you've got to wonder why Leven wants to change tactics right now. I'd make Spiridakos come to me."
O'Dell: "Could be Rambin's looking to keep the momentum of last round going. She's definitely as aggressive as we've seen her in this fight, and Tracy seeming to have shaken off last round able to bang back with just as much power and effectiveness."
Cassie: "You're looking at two girls who could well be a big part of the future of the FCBA's bantamweight division, and you're seeing why. Nothing not to like here."
O'Dell: "There certainly isn't. Both putting punches together well, moving well, solid on defense. Plenty of effort. Lots of accuracy. Good stuff all around as we head down the stretch. Both women concentrating upstairs, but neither ignoring the body, other. Solid stuff from both Leven and Tracy to the bell. Close for Spiridakos."
Tess: "48-47 at the midpoint. Good fight."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Sixth of a scheduled ten begins with Rambin back to the long left, making Tracy come to her as Mac suggested..."
McCarthy: "I'm TELLING YOU they have me BUGGED! I suggest they move Perry to welter and they do, and there have been about ten suggestions since then, and Weirdo immediately does it. Now THIS! If I didn't know better, I'd say they had some sort of implant in my brain..."
Cassie: "Microsurgery at its finest..."
O'Dell(sighing): "Spiridakos again using the footwork to close, bobbing, weaving, trying to work past the glove, and, when she does she gets to work, banging body, then working her way upstairs. Rambin firing right back, willing to work on Tracy's terms and DOWN GOES LEVEN! Nice right hand and then a left hook and Rambin dropped to her back."
Tess: "Again, deja vu for Front Street against Spiridakos!"
O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five. Leven sitting up. Getting to her feet at six and will take the mandatory. Referee going to let it continue and here comes Tracy! Spiridakos firing away and Rambin holding ground here. Not going to be backed up. She's covering up and working in counter, but not going to go to the ropes. She's not denying the clean up entirely, but at least preventing a complete rout."
Cassie: "Smart move. Taking a risk, but she doesn't want against those ropes with Tracy."
O'Dell: "Leven tying up, Tracy punching free as we enter the final seconds. Spiridakos backs Rambin up with a flurry, but Leven counters at the bell. Big round for Tracy."
Tess: "And Spiridakos now building a lead, 58-55 with four to go."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Seventh round begins and Spiridakos pushing. She's looking to take control and/or finish right now. Tracy working in and banging. Leven not going to retreat, holding ground, firing back, catching Spiridakos with a solid combination."
McCarthy: "This is a way for Rambin to get space, as strange as it seems. If she can hold her canvas, she can create the space with her foot work."
O'Dell: "And, indeed, that's what she's doing with drop steps and slide steps. Forcing Tracy to come forward and scoring as she does so. Spiridakos keeps the feet moving, continuing to work in. Willing to take fire to do it."
Tess: "Both girls doing some landing again in this round. Good stuff from both fighters."
O'Dell: "AND SPIRIDAKOS ROCKS RAMBIN WITH A RIGHT HAND! Leven staggered backward...BIG FLURRY FROM TRACY AND DOWN SHE GOES!"
Cassie: "That's my GIRL right there!"
O'Dell: "Rambin on her back. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Tries to sit up and CAN'T. Nine. TEN! It's over. And your winner by KO7 is Tracy Spiridakos!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Tracy Spiridakos, and, Tracy, you definitely seem to like it in this building..."
Tracy: "Like I said, it's a second home for me. It's a place I feel comfortable. The fans are great and it's a wonderful atmosphere. Never easy to win, because Front Street has a lot of talented girls. Have to be on top of your game, and I was tonight."
Tess: "It was close for awhile, but you seemed to grab control late..."
Tracy: "Well, I caught her in the sixth, and that was the key. It was anyone's fight at that point, but I managed to grab the advantage and hang onto it."
Tess: "I'd ask what's next for you, but I know better..."
Tracy(laughing): "Right. Ask the big guy in the kilt. He's in charge."
