MEGHAN MARKLE vs EVA MENDES

BEFORE: Meghan Markle completes her mini two-fight contract against the Lioness Club of America's bantamweights but since Nicole Scherzinger knocked her out in Las Vegas last month that's bad news for the exotic actress because the very same Scherzinger got absolutely nailed by Eva Mendes in the internal Alpha Status bout back in April. Still, the 33 year old doesn't seem to care about that and indicates every day is a brand new day and she can well and truly spoil Mendes' party especially if the Hollywood A-lister underestimates her skills.
There are signs that Eva lingered on that Scherzinger vs Markle result too much as she tells Tess Valmore she "doesn't even know who this Markle chick is" but a ferocious staredown during the introductions indicates that she probably just tried to mentally check Meghan with her A-list status and failed in her attempts. Meghan gave Nicole a fair fight and looks to be here to stay regardless of her results and the fact she doesn't earn a quarter of Mendes' monthly wages in a calendar year.
Eva Mendes wears her trademark leopard bikini top, black hip-huggers and silver gloves. Brown hair tied in a ponytail. Meghan Markle wears a black & white diamond schemed basque top, white knickers and black gloves. Dark brown hair in loose waves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
Mendes wants to dominate from the onset and jumps at the fellow brunette quickly but fails to slice her guard and gets whooped around the elbows instead as Markle has learned her lessons against Scherzinger and finds the aggression early; she keeps spiking Eva's midriff until the A-lister has to retreat and revert into overhand assault in mid-range. Meghan still seeks a close up but doesn't handle the space between them so well and gets caught by a couple of jabs to the face before Eva finds the breadbasket and cleans Meghan out. A brief staredown ensues before Eva shows superior agility and nails her foe with another overhand but it only fuels Meghan's will to swing more punches to the head; the precision is not there despite the effort and has Mendes picking her off with single punches late in the round instead.
Round 2:
Eva's experience starts to tell when she ducks underneath Meghan's predictable high swinging and staggers her with a measured ribcage jabbing; she digs well into the younger brunette's guts thereafter and shoves her back, ducks another high assault and tears into the soft tissue making Meghan moan in discomfort. Mendes only ups the tempo; jabs against the tummy before shifting up high and snapping the head back; Markle has to drop to the ropes and cover herself up but this only allows Eva to land repeated unanswered shots and make her look pretty subdued at the very least. Mendes is aware of this and slows down in her efforts, seeks that measured haymaker instead but although she has Markle sagging she can't find a way to really hurt her at the bell despite overwhelming numbers advantage.
Round 3:
Mendes needs to find more speed if she's gonna catch her rival with that Boxing World cover-worthy shot; she's quick enough to enforce a close range brawl and punish Markle's ribs but eats a wayward elbow in the solar plexus as Meghan tried to shove her away which is swiftly followed by an uppercut to the chin. Eva never saw that coming and wobbles back on the spot with her arms dropped low; Meghan reaches out and scores! She tags the nose and reels a suddenly stunned Mendes back against the ropes where she traps her moments later with a piercing series on the chest. Eva tries to clinch herself out of trouble but gets spiked on the ropes and shoved butt-in-ropes as Meghan squeals in her efforts to gain an upperhand; she pumps more blows to the ribs and it works; Mendes sags at the bell in a mild upset and Markle gives her a really long look to see if that body punishment was noticed by her opponent!
Round 4:
Eva's furious she allowed Meghan to treat her ribcage like that and bursts out of her stool to surprise the younger actress; a quick hooking combo splits Markle's mitts and grazes the cheek to wobble her out of balance... Mendes strikes over the top but fails to land a clean punch again and only sends Meghan on the run instead... Hit and miss efforts thereafter as Meghan seeks obvious respite and Mendes' not quick enough to catch her on the fly... some bad-tempered language follows but it doesn't break Markle's stance as she's happy enough to let Eva wear herself out before mounting a late comeback; it's ill-advised though as whenever she closes , Mendes can finally land something on the face and Meghan herself starts to breath heavily when she gets nailed on the brow ridge and falls onto the ropes just before the bell. Mendes runs out of time to punish her though.
Round 5:
The intervals seem to help Eva who's capable of catching Meghan early in each round as we're closing to half way and she snaps the younger brunette's head back repeatedly in the opening minute leaving some nasty shiners on each cheek. Markle gurgles loudly in discomfort but realizes she has to find something back or Mendes will run away with the scorecards.. she withstands the early barrage despite all the lumps on her face and doesn't seek another frightened escape but just wades in on Eva's body and keeps her honest with a bruising exchange that turns the fight on it's head. Mendes maintains the high intensity but loses her breath down the stretch and can't break Markle down; the younger actress finds some improved punching resistance and pummels the Latin girl back to the ropes; tries for a good hook on the jaw but misses and gets caught with a left-handed jab instead that cuts her brow ridge and leaves sagging at the bell. Eva's too gassed out to finish the job off though and she does look quite tired already.
Round 6:
Mendes is way ahead on points but perhaps the age is catching up to her against an opponent seven years her junior. One has to question her training regime too and it's obvious she's going for the kill already despite a healthy lead on the cards. Meghan's eyes light up as she absorbs another charge and prevents Eva from pounding her breadbasket to a mush, a switch up high meets the earmuff cover and Eva's getting desperate now, she goes all in but can't find that haymaker anywhere and eats a crunching response as Meghan second guesses the pause Mendes has to make to catch her breath and nails her with a right hand on the temple that spins the A-lister around with a loud gasp... EVA IS HURT... Here comes Markle pumping facial leather and making full use of her foe's arms dropping low and providing little cover... a cross hook pretty much cuts the nasal ridge in a flash and Markle throws it out of the ballpark with a left hook on the mouth... Mendes sags on her knees and just collapses backwards and hits the canvas hard in almost slo-mo fashion... Whoa! Have you ever? The count is slow but Eva's seeing stars here! ...eight... ..nine... ..ten... It's a no-go for the favorite and the underdog nails it! KO6 Meghan Markle!!!
AFTER: The audience is stunned by the sudden departure of Eva Mendes but the truth is she got caught by the kind of a series she chased all night long herself. Meghan is equally shocked by this outcome and can't hide the tears of joy as she climbs the ropes to accept the rampant cheers... and you don't see the winners crying in joy very often around this organization! Markle's so confused she doesn't know what to do next, wait for the announcer or head straight to the press room? But she's saved her career that looked to be heading down the exit round following a tough loss to Margot Robbie and the heart-breaking follow up to Nicole Scherzinger. The SSB tenure is always more demanding when you're a free agent!
Meanwhile Eva Mendes is left speechless after getting revived out of her KO misery. The signs are she's unable to last the distance anymore and the Poppy Montgomery clash was perhaps the high-water mark of her longevity in SSB. It's either get it done quick or suffer instead as she had the scorecards but didn't have the durability since the fifth round. And this against a mediocre opponent at best! Is Mendes heading for the coaching duties with the LCA next year already? Retirement has never loomed so near the proud Latin vixen and even the trigger happy Tractorpull and Boxing World pundits must be aware of that based on tonight's outcome. Oh, Eva...
Final result: Meghan Markle def. Eva Mendes KO6.
