Elizabeth Olsen (5'7”, 25 y/o) v Olivia Wilde (5'7 1/2”, 30 y/o) result:Lookout/words:simgrrl
Before: Olsen, a rising star in the FCBA; Wilde already an established star. Advantage Wilde. Won-loss records tell the tale in this one. Wilde, in her 30th fight has only 9 losses; Olsen, in her 18th fight, also has 9 losses. Those extra twelve fights and wins for Olivia indicate she's got a huge advantage. Then there's “quality of competition” to consider!
Wilde's beaten top names like Grace Park, Summer Glau, Kirsten Dunst, AnnaLynne McCord, Katie Cassidy (3 times!) and Ashley Greene (oh, and she also beat Elizabeth Olsen once already!)
Liz Olsen, on the other hand, has claimed victims like Emily VanCamp, Emily Blunt and Lea Seydoux. Did we mention she's already lost to Wilde? Olsen's camp points out (rightly) “she put Wilde on the canvas twice” in their first fight. The Wilde folks point out that Olivia got up both times - then KO'd Olsen in the 7th round!!
This is a HUGE fight for Olsen. A win vaults her into the ranks of bantam contenders, while a loss relegates her into the “gatekeeper” discussion. Still, for a girl halfway between 20 and 30, with less than twenty fights on her resume, to be nibbling around the edges of 'contender' status is a big deal. Wilde, on the other hand, is ALREADY A CONTENDER! A win tonight makes Wilde a top challenger for the bantam belts currently held by Holt(?) So this is an important fight for both women.
Wilde in black bandeau bikini (see recent beach shoot); Olsen in boy-cut white panties and white strapless bra. Both chose shoes and gloves matching their color scheme; both with hair braided.
During R1: Olsen confident in her corner, rushes out at the bell to attack Wilde head-on. Liz going to Olivia's supple, willowy, body but not neglecting to smack her upside the head every so often either. Wilde rocked a couple of times in the opening minute, having trouble getting on track as Liz Olsen shows she's come to fight. Late in the round, Olivia finally mounting some offense, using her legs to create some openings as she circles behind a strong right over the top of Olsen's jab. Still, it's Olsen's round as she bags the points.
R2: Olivia wins round on points (close). More of the same from Olsen; pumping her solid left in Wilde's face, following it up with the right to the body. Olivia keeps circling into Olsen's jab, trying to stay away from that troublesome right hand that's putting a healthy pink glow on the left side of her slim torso. More rights from Wilde finding Olsen's face, but she always answers with a right to the body. Wilde - scoring more frequently - wins the round narrowly, but Liz's good body work keeps her competitive all the way to the bell.
R3: Olsen steps up the tempo from the start, stepping with Wilde to cut off the ring, smothering her right hand. Olsen initiating clinches, using her weight to her advantage, bullying the lighter Wilde around while bludgeoning her to the body. Olivia not liking the treatment, and while she's punching back, she's unable to do much to put a stop to it as Elizabeth wins round, comfortably, on points.
R4: Olsen wins her third round in convincing fashion. More of the same from the youngster Olsen who dictates the pace from the get-go, never letting Olivia get into a rhythm. More clinching keeps Wilde bogged down as they grapple and squirm along the ropes with Wilde butt-stuffed between the strands carrying Olsen's weight as the younger woman rides her as she digs rights and lefts to that wiry torso. Elizabeth Olsen wins the round with a dominating shutout.
R5: Olsen back out and quickly getting on top of Wilde who is struggling with Olsen's style as much as her strength. Clearly, Liz is determined to establish herself as a legit contender for bantam gold before long. Wilde still making adjustments, starting to get separation which allows her to use her quick feet and hands to her advantage. Olsen, perhaps a bit punched out after four furious round on the attack, unable to catch Wilde who is finally able to use her legs; whipping punches into Olsen from angles, taking advantage of the heavier fighters reach disadvantage, slight as it is. Wilde constantly able to strike Olsen, then slip away before the Academy ingenue can counter. Down the stretch, it's all Olivia Wilde as she's at last taking control of the fight using the wippet-like quickness that's made her a top contender. At the bell, it's Olivia Wilde winning the fifth round by a wide margin without a knockdown.
R6: Olsen shaking off the disappointment of the previous round, right back on the attack, stubbornly sticking to her attacking style. Wilde popping Liz with the jab, dancing away but Olsen's more cautious approach this round leaves Olivia with little opportunity to do damage. Olsen taking chances, looking to land a big blow, and it catches up with her in the second minute. Wilde, stepping left with Olsen in pursuit, suddenly stops, plants, and drills the onrushing youngster with a left hook that pancakes Liz's left breast. A protection reflex causes Liz to drop her left hand, leaving her exposed to Wilde's right! Olsen's knees buckle and she stumbles forward into a hard left hook to the jaw that sends her sprawled on her chest! Olivia steps over her, arms raised in triumph, tossing her battle braid as she whips around to glare back into Olsen's stricken corner. While Olivia poses in the far corner, Olsen frantically paws at the nearby ropes, her unresponsive legs scuffling on the canvas as she tries to haul herself to one knee, then just before the count of ten, she makes it to her feet. Hands at her chest, she nods when the referee asks if she's “OK” and he waves Wilde back. The final seconds of the round see Olsen doubled over, hands earmuffing her bobbing and twisting head, her rear end sticking out between the strands of the ropes as Olivia Wilde twists and turns into whiplashing lefts and rights in a desperate attempt to put the young fighter down again. Somehow, Olsen survives to the bell and wanders in a daze to her corner, a stark contrast to the hi-five greeting awaiting Wilde across the ring. The knockdown wins Olivia the round to draw even at three apiece.
R7: Ah, the miracle of youth! Shockingly, after only a brief respite, and despite the sound thrashing, at the bell Liz Olsen appears to be her old self. She's standing for the bell and steps out with firm legs, walking right at Olivia who, obviously, is surprised to see a fresh fighter facing her. Just a brief hesitation is all that Olsen needs to land the lead right hand that rocks Wilde. Liz follows up with another left and a right and WILDE'S IN TROUBLE! Liz Olsen letting her hands go; digging lefts to the lower body while up top, right hands are mashing Olivia's perky puppies with breathtaking power. Wilde reeling in disarray under an opening minute of relentless attack by the young upstart. After such a vigorous onslaught, Olsen needs to catch her breath and she manages to pin Wilde on the ropes, belly-to-belly, putting her weight on the slighter girl while continuing to dig lefts and rights to the body, wearing Olivia out with a body attack. Two minutes in, it's been all Olsen and the crowd are on their feet urging her to finish as the bell approaches when Wilde suddenly connects with another right hand inside that buckles Olsen's legs. Olivia loads up and unleashes another right and DOWN GOES OLSEN! DOWN GOES OLSEN! Liz Olsen lays starfished at Wilde's feet and she's not getting up! With less than twenty seconds left in the round, Olsen can't get up and Wilde wins via a stunning KO7!
After: Another disappointing KO loss to Wilde for Olsen. It sure looks like the 7th round isn't Olsen's “lucky” round – at least not against Wilde.
“This fight wasn't anything like the one we game planned for,” Wilde sighed postfight. “We came in expecting a technical contest with a lot of strategic moves and counter moves. She just came right at me and bogged me down. It looked like some of Jewel Kilcher's old fights. Maybe that's because of Ginny, Theron and Stone all being from that ancient era. Took me a while to get untracked and make some room where I could to use my legs, but once I was able to find some room to maneuver, everything fell into place for me. Then she was mounting a comeback when I caught her flush. As soon as I hit her I felt she was badly hurt and I knew I had to finish her off this time. She only made one tiny mistake, she gave me an opening and it cost her the fight.”
Olsen glum in defeat, having trouble holding it together after a disappointing loss in a fight she thought she had under control in the early rounds and then came back to what looked like the brink of a stoppage herself when the wheels came off. “I thought I had her ready to go in the seventh and I guess I was concentrating about putting her away instead of defense because all of a sudden they were telling me the fight was over and I'd lost! Heartbreaking really, to have come so close against a top rated bantam and not being able to finish the job.”
