MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD VS ADRIANNE PALICKI
“Santa-Kini Bout”
(Sceej Boxing vs Foxfire Boxing)
Writing: Archer Results: Lookout

Before: “I want to welcome Adrianne to ‘Santa-Kini Boxing’. Some may think it is a gimmick but since my first bout in 2007, I have been involved in 4 and didn’t actually win one until I knocked out my good friend Yvonne Strahovski. So there is hope for you yet,” Mary Elizabeth Winstead cheerfully tells a crowd of reporters. (Mary is showing her Yuletide spirit with red leather shorts and a tight fitting SANTA-KINI FIGHTER 2014 top).

Adrianne (who is in green short shorts and tee shirt that says SANTA-KINI FIGHTER 2014) smiles with equal good cheer and says: “Thank you, Mary, I think those a pretty decent odds especially since I knocked you out the last time we fought in 2009. That wouldn’t be why you happened to think of it, would it?”

“Oh, you beat me. Why it must have slipped my mind, lots has happened since then,” Mary says with tongue-in-cheek. “Hopefully lots more will happen when we’re both in our Santa-kinis.”

“I do love the way you say that word,” Adrianne says, “I know you like saying it, but I think you should be prepared for another disappointment. One of us is going to lose and I don’t intend for it to be me.”

Come the night of the bout, the two ladies come down to the ring in Santa hats and thigh-length Santa coats. Upon entering the ring, a valet removes the hat and coat for each fighter leaving the fighter resplendent in a Santa-Kini. Mary’s is a shiny red satin bra an briefs with white faux fur trim, across the bottoms written in flowing letters is MEW. A MEW monogram is on the left breast cup of her bra. Black boxing boots and red gloves with a big red bow binding her pulled back hair completes Mary’s attire.

Adrianne’s features a white bikini with red faux trim and across her bottoms in red lettering is ADRIANNE PALICKI. Adrianne wears black boots, green gloves and has a big green bow holding back her hair. Both ladies are cheerful and look eager to have-at each other.

R1: Mary gets off to a smooth start, moving quickly across the ring to hammer Adrianne in close from the start. Adrianne fights back with a determined jab that knocks Mary’s head back, but Mary starts moving her head evasively to counter the jab and gets some nick hooks into Adrianne’s midsection. Fighters commence to circling each other, staying close, and looking for openings. Adrianne tries some quick hooks to Mary’s abs and then tries to force some uppercuts into Mary’s jaw. Mary evasive here and rattles Adrianne.s teeth with a quick straight right on the chops when Adrianne’s guard gets a little too low. Mary pushing forward varying her attack with shots to the belly and head. Adrianne not backing off, but she’s definitely getting the worst of the exchanges. No dangerous punches landed as the round ends, but Mary is a clear winner on points.

R2: Mary and Adrianne still fighting close. Adrianne much more active this round, banging Mary to the body with strong hooks as Mary presses forward. Mary taking the punishment to land on Adrianne’s head and she is sending tremors through the Sceej boxer’s body with several of these noggin knockers. Adrianne grimly hanging in and she really pounding away at Mary’s belly and then works her way up to belabor the Winstead rack. Mary grimacing as her hooters are pancaked, but she strikes back and lands a beaut of a straight right between Adrianne’s eyes. Adrianne stumbles back from this and Mary darts in trying to follow up, but Adrianne’s tough and Mary gets battered by Adrianne’s defensive jabbing. Mary circles, trying to get Adrianne from a surprise angle, but Adrianne blocks her until Mary does finally land a powerful hook to the belly that makes Adrianne gasp and bend forward. Mary bangs a couple of quick lefts and rights off Adrianne’s skull, but then Adrianne pulls back so quickly Mary’s big right hits only empty air. Mary unable to close on Adrianne after that and has to settle for winning the round, though by a close margin.

R3: Adrianne fighting harder now as she tries to wrench the offensive away from Mary. This sets up a furious exchange in the center of the ring. Really great punching as the two circle, move in and out. Adrianne starts out with a return to Mary’s body, but soon reveals her real interest this stanza is Mary’s jaw. Mary’s not backing down from the challenge, trying to maintain control of the action, but her jaw is being hit again and again from left and right as she tries to use her offense as a defense, but her cheekbones are reddening and red spots are appearing on both jaws. Mary finally has to get her gloves up higher and Adrianne is more than happy to pound Mary’s pudding the rest of the way, though Mary is jabbing back now and bouncing shots off Adrianne’s forehead. End of the rounds finds Adrianne has won the stanza by a narrow margin.

R4: Adrianne using movement and her longer reach this round as she circles Mary and looks for opportunities. Mary preferring to be in close keeps trying to block Adrianne’s movements, but the Sceej boxer proving quite nimble this round. More troubling for Mary is that she’s letting her guard get slack during these efforts and she is getting hit steadily to the face and upper body. Mary finally starts some countering circling of her own late in the round and finds some good punching to Adrianne ribs. Helps Mary score some points, but round is clearly Adrianne Palicki’s as the bell rings.

R5: Mary determined not to let Adrianne play her circling games again and this time she is able to move more quickly to block the blonde’s movements. Adrianne finds herself battling in close once again and she’s more than happy to get at Mary’s stomach, but Mary firing back over Adrianne’s guard. The intensity of this battle mount rapidly and brings the crowd to its collective feet when Mary stuns Adrianne with a walloping uppercut to the chin and then smashes alternate lefts and rights to Adrianne’s jaw as Adrianne’s knees as giving way. ADRIANNE PALICKI IS DOWN! Adrianne on all fours panting hard and shaking her head as a grinning Mary retreats to a neutral corner. Adrianne takes a full 9 seconds before rising to break the count. She then braces herself as Mary comes thundering in ready to finish the job. Adrianne shaken, but determined digs in behind her jab and meets the Winstead offensive punch for punch. She manages to slip a overhand right in over Mary’s gloves to smack her nose. Mary recoils as blood drips out of both nostrils, but quickly comes back and makes Adrianne pay with another straight right between the eyes. Adrianne’s legs turn to rubber, but she manages to sink a hook into Mary’s stomach as she falls back and Mary’s charge is halted just long enough for the bell to ring. Exciting stanza, but the knockdown gives this round to Mary.

R6: Mary swarming on Adrianne who looks a little sluggish coming out of her corner. Mary really working Adrianne’s waistband. Adrianne hunching over from the repeated impacts she is being forced back towards the ropes. Adrianne tries to slide her way passed Mary, but Mary blocks her way and now she’s finally getting in punches in over and under Adrianne’s weakening upper guard. As Adrianne’s butt hits the strands, Mary moves in to keep the blonde hung up while thundering punches into Adrianne’s gut. Adrianne;’s legs trembling finally seems to hear desperate shouts from her corner: “CLINCH! CLINCH!” Adrianne groggily clinches and referee steps in to force a break. Mary tries to get Adrianne back on the ropes, but Adrianne is sliding along, trying to outrun Mary, but she’s still cornered. Finally Adrianne puts her head and down fights back, trying to force Mary back. Mary finally forced back step by step, but Adrianne buys only a little space as the round ends in another Mary win. Fighters both sweat drenched, bloodied and bruised as they head for their corners. No one getting off lightly in this bout tonight.

R7: Mary back on the attack, but Adrianne seems determined not to let the Foxfire boxer push her around this time, Adrianne gets Mary’s attention early with a smashing right cross the face that knocks Mary’s red bow loose and a left hook that whips Mary’s head back the other way sends the ribbon fluttering away. Mary knocked back, but manages to step around to avoid the ropes and bring the battle to mid ring. Adrianne in pursuit and the two fall into another fierce punching exchange as they battle back and forth. Mary again doubling Adrianne up with her midsection attack, but Adrianne responding with hooks that bang Mary’s breasts and then finds her chin. Mary forced to break off the attack, but leaves Adrianne reeling with a hook into the solar plexus as she withdraws. Adrianne slow to follow-up, but Mary now on the defensive to the bell as she tries to recover. Time runs out in the round with Adrianne getting a close win.

R8: Mary and Adrianne both slow out of their corners. They’ve taken a lot of punishment and both look like it, but as they get close, they both seem to revive and start punching with renewed vigor. Mary trying to get at Adrianne’s head, but Adrianne moving her head evasively and striking Mary back to the brunette’s already heavily shelled belly. Mary trying to get through and finally stuns Adrianne with two quick uppercuts under her guard to smite that chin. Adrianne starts jabbing desperately to make Mary get back., Mary steps right, but turns and plows a straight right into Adrianne left cheekbone. Adrianne head ripped around and her green ribbon goes flying. Adrianne ducks down to drive a hook into Mary’s belly to double her up and make her step back on her toes. Mary circles again and makes a nice left feint to draw Adrianne forward and then sends a right to smash her the mouth. Adrianne knocked back, but her legs are still keeping her up despite Mary’s best efforts and Adrianna manages to solidify her defenses to keep Mary at bay to the bell, Still it is another Mary round won by a narrow margin.

R9: Mary seems convinced she can take Adrianne out if she can just land enough punches on her chin. She makes an all-out effort early in this round and Adrianne is fighting desperately to keep her from doing it. Still, Mary able to bounce punches off Adrianne’s head and she keeps up the pressure with single-minded focus. Then Adrianne suddenly makes a move to right as though to try to escape. Mary lunges to block her, but in doing so she lets her guard weaken and Adrianne suddenly swings a left hook through a gap and cracks it off Mary’s jaw. Mary reeling and Adrianne is on her with a frenzied series of lefts and rights that have Mary’s head bouncing alarmingly. MARY GOES DOWN! One second, Mary is backing up, the next her legs stiffen and she crashes back like a felled tree! She lands on her shoulders, arms flung out and legs up in the air before crashing to the canvas! Mary’s eyes are fluttering as the referee starts to count. Mary tries to rise. She manages to roll onto her side, but then just as the count reaches “…NINE!” she unexpected collapses on to her back again and it’s OVER!

The Winner: KO9 Adrianne Palicki!

After: Adrianne wearily raises her arms in victory, but looks concerned about Mary, but the Foxfire ring crew revives her with some smelling salts and then helps her to her feet. Mary looks downcast, but nods her head at Adrianne in acknowledgement. Adrianne hurries over to hug Mary and then let her be taken away for a post-fight check.

“Wow!” Adrianne tells the press, “Anybody who thinks these Santa-Kini fights are some kind of joke had better re-think that now. This was one of the hardest fights I’ve been in and it feels really good to have been able to beat someone as tough as Mary Winstead. What a night!”

Later, after assuring the press that the post-fight check showed no long-term problems, Mary tells the scribes: “That was nice of Adrianne to say. I will say that it was close, but she was just a little bit better than me—tonight. It was disappointing to lose, but I gave it all I could so I have nothing to be ashamed of and I’ll just start getting ready for my NEXT fight.”

Very exciting fight from two fine young boxers. It was close on the cards when Adrianne brought the bout to a decisive finish.
