TESS VALMORE
SCHILLING/ SOBIESKI I had the feeling this fight was to give Sobieski some rounds. I thought she could end it just about anytime she wanted to. That’s what happened. There was not a lot of heavy punching in the first four rounds with both content to move and jab. In the fifth, it seemed like Sobieski had had enough exercise. She decked Schilling, but Schilling managed to beat the count. In the sixth, Sobieski floored Schilling again and again Schilling beat the count. Sobieski didn’t let her off the hook. She battered Schilling into the ropes and the referee finally stepped in and stopped the fight
HYLAND/ LEVY A good close fight. Levy got in close and worked on the body, taking the first two rounds. Hyland then took the next three using wrestling tactics more than boxing. Levy evened up the fight in the sixth and then took the lead by flooring Hyland in the seventh. Hyland then went ahead again by winning rounds eight and nine. Levy had to have round ten and she got it. The decision came back in favor of Levy, the seventh round knockdown being the difference.
GRAHAM/ R.L. COOK Graham under pressure to get a win came through but it wasn’t easy. Graham lost the first two rounds being tentative. She finally got into a groove and took the next two rounds with round five being called a draw. Cook came close to winning in the sixth, when she hurt Graham and had her pinned to the ropes, but Graham survived. Graham evened the bout in the seventh and ended it in the eighth with a right hook that put Cook down for the count.
STONE/ SWAN The first four rounds were rather uneventful with both content to move and jab. No heavy action. They started punching for real in the fifth which surprisingly went Stones way. The sixth, however, did not go Stones way. Swan caught her with a left jab and a right hook, dropping Stone to the canvas where she stayed and the referee went through the formalities of a count
ARTERTON/ PAUSINI The two spent the first two rounds working on each other’s body, Pausini taking round one and Arterton round two. Pausini took the lead winning round three. In the fourth, Arterton has Pausini hurt but couldn’t finish her. Arterton did finish the bout in the fifth, flooring Pausini with a right. Pausini made it to her feet only to run into another Arterton right, that sent her down again, this time for good
ROHM/ KESHA Rohm was the more aggressive of the two in the first two rounds taking the lead. Kesha, starting to mix it up, took the next two rounds to even up the fight. The bout remained even at the end of six. That was the highpoint of Rohm’s night. Kesha hurt her in the seventh, floored her in the eighth and again in the ninth, this time for the count.
