Ellie Goulding dispatched Gabriella Cilmi's Garnet Gunners UK stablemate Diana Vickers in workmanlike fashion last month but she'll definitely need to improve on that performance if she wants to beat the raven-haired Aussie singer tonight.
Ellie Goulding wears a yellow bandeau bikini and black gloves. Gabriella Cilmi wears a black bikini, red hip-huggers and red gloves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
Cilmi wants to upstage the rookie early and jabs at her face straight from the onset, she splits the blonde's mitts and connects with her cheeks as Goulding's rather sluggish on her feet and struggles to settle in close range. Gabriella just keeps on going and pushes her for towards the ropes, swings one low and nails the liver area as Ellie finally mounts a run from behind the guard and avoids getting trapped on the ropes. She smacks the brunette's mouth and shows some quick feet down the strech, bats away at the face and keeps Cilmi in mid-distance before landing a series of overhands on the Aussie girl who's lost her plot and just bangs against the guard in frustration; Ellie with solid spikes to steal the round and she did look much better whenever she avoided the close range exchange.
Round 2:
Gabriella wants to close right up but gets checked in her tracks by another blonde overhand and Ellie rips into her face thereafter with a heavy right hook that nails the brunette on the nose and staggers her back. Goulding leaps at her and clatters the boobs, moves into more jabbing on the mouth and just sends the Aussie singer backing into the ropes where she drills her breadbasket with a nice switch of targets. Cilmi begins to moan and tries to clinch the older girl but gets whacked on the ribs and just soaks up more punishment thereafter; Ellie squeals in her efforts but shows much needed improvement by just pounding Gabriella's ribs into nasty pink patches here and there.
Round 3:
Goulding resumes the midsection punishment as she wrestles the Aussie off her after a brief struggle, nails her on the nose before going low and Cilmi just can't shake her off and gets backed into the ropes where she brawls with the blonde but ultimately loses the exchange after Ellie slams her on the navel before more piercing spikes crash off the liver area. Gabriella groans and yelps in a mix of pain and frustration but gets shut out completely here and sags on her knees with aching guts at the bell.
Round 4:
Ellie pummels through over the top and catches Gabriella off guard; the brunette expected another midriff assault and just got plastered by a left/right combo that nailed her on the nose. She sinks on her knees and on the spot and drops her arms; Ellie comes crashing down with more leather and finds a cross hook on the right eye that spins the younger singer to the side and Goulding can sign off with a right hand to the solar plexus... CILMI GOES DOWN.. she half turns again and collapses face-first onto the canvas as Ellie leaps in the air and looks genuinely stunned by the knockdown.. Gabriella gets up at seven but looks to be in some pain and the blonde zips through her guard again to add more facial misery. She pummels the visibly affected brunette back to the turnbuckle where she drills her breadbasket and leaves running on empty at the bell. Ref has to drag the blonde away as she was set to maintain the barrage abd Gabriella just can't find her breath and nurses a very sore face on top of that already.
Round 5:
Cilmi's issues continue as Goulding slices through her mitts with ease now and staggers her in the middle of the ring with more aggressive slaps that add more swelling to the Aussie's otherwise pretty face. Ellie in total control, she pummels a truly lacklustre opponent back to the ropes and Gabriella looks like she wants this to be over as quickly as possible. She eats more facial jabbing and just leans forward as Ellie goes around her elbows and just brutalizes the ribcage to make the aching brunette scream out in pain and just soak up all this punishment... Ellie sets her up with a hook to the temple inside the last minute as Gabriella is unable to escape the trap and eats more cross hooks on the mouth before the blonde finally puts her out of the misery with a crunching uppercut on the jaw.... CILMI CRASHES DOWN TO HER SIDE with eyes closed and accepts her fate when the count passes her by... KO5 Ellie Goulding!!!
AFTER: Ellie showed enough improvement to knock the brunette out but quite frankly Gabriella looked even worse out there than one of the biggest jobbers in the division, Diana Vickers few days ago. The lack of frequent opportunities seems to have a very bad impact on Cilmi's morale as she just didn't show much willingness and fighting spirit to basically allow the blonde newcomer to have her way with her in the end.
Ellie's passed her second test but there are several more demanding rivals on the market than Gabriella Cilmi. It remains to be seen if she keeps challenging fellow singers even though girls like Natasha Hamilton or Liz McClarnon would be very fitting opponents or does she change her sights and starts stalking some TV actresses or glamour models instead.
