Mila Kunis vs Kristin Kreuk
(Loser Leaves HISC)
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE: The pre-fight is exactly what you'd expect. Ugly. There's sniping, zinging, and, several times, actual brawling that has to be broken up Jerry Springer style. Through it all, both women remain confident and for very different reasons. Kreuk? She's been here before, in these "loser-leaves-town" battles, and her record is as perfect as the 1972 Dolphins. "This is old news for me, fighting for my spot," she says with a hard-eyed nod. "I know how to handle this kind of pressure. And I know how to handle a flash-in-the-pan like Mila."

Kunis' confidence stems from two earlier bouts against her fellow brunette cracker huckster. "People all talk about how Krissy's been here before, well, so have I," Kunis says with that gorgeous smile. "I've looked across the ring at Kreuk twice. And, both times, it was my hand that got raised. As I recall, the two bouts totaled seven rounds. That makes the over-under on tonight three and a half. Take the under."

ROUND ONE:

The strategies quickly become apparent, and they're exactly what you'd expect. Kunis wants to work forward behind the jab, come up the middle, and bring the leather to Krissy. Kreuk wants to jab and circle, get some space to box her rival. But, Mila's seen this act before, and she knows just how to deal with it. Kunis is plenty athletic and has great feet. She stalks, she cuts the ring, and she goes to work with both hands. Kreuk not at all shy in the exchanges, though, firing back and giving almost as good as she gets. Lots and lots of leather flying for the entire round. Nobody hurt, but both girls getting touched an awful lot throughout in a round that features the typical high flyweight work rate and comes out a solid victory for Kunis, who takes the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Kristin back to the jab-and-circle routine, making slight adjustments now to slow Mila's pursuit and stay off square. Kunis, as always, works hard with her feet, matching footwork, squaring up as often as she can and wasting no time getting the leather going when she does so. It's glorious stuff from two beautiful brunettes. Lots of punches flying, all movement on both sides, neither woman able to get all or even most of what she wants, but both scoring every possible point when she is able to do so. Again, both women get touched a lot. The work rate doesn't slow an iota, even in the closing seconds of the round. But, Krissy's slight adjustments have worked. She's able to get more done and even things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

A little more aggression from Kunis now. She's not going to allow Krissy to win this thing with stick and move tactics. She's going to force battle, but in a sound way, because getting sloppy against Kreuk can only have one result, and it won't be a pretty one for the gorgeous Mila. So, instead of slamming the pedal to the metal, she simply presses down a little harder, ramping up the pressure and forcing Krissy to work harder to maintain the distance she wants. Kreuk's brought to battle more often, and, again, gives just about as well as she gets when that happens. Kreuk not at all shy about trading with Mila, despite the results of their earlier bouts. It's back and forth like this the whole way, and, when the bell rings, it's a very near thing. The cards say "Kreuk", though, and Kristin is on the lead 29-28 with seven to go.

ROUND FOUR:

Kristin again being brought to battle by a tenacious Mila. Kunis knows how to get to Krissy. She's done it before. And pressure and power is the strategy that's worked. But, again, sound pressure. No unnecessary chances taken. Mila works hard. She moves the feet. She gets the hands out and back. And she stays on Kreuk. Doesn't give her time to breathe. Doesn't give her space to box. Doesn't give her anything but a shower of ill-intentioned leather. Kreuk again firing back, again giving plenty in these exchanges, but the Mila we're seeing now. Well. This is the girl that ran out on the now-infamous winning streak, a streak that started with the girl in front of her. Kreuk. Watson. Gellar. Bell.  Hewitt. ScarJo. Hale. Mishy. Eight in a row. From a girl who'd been 3-14-1. THAT Mila is THIS Mila. And, as determined as Krissy is, and she's plenty determined, she can't match THAT Mila. Kreuk keeps it close. She hangs in the exchanges. But, it's Kunis who's taking control of the fight, an Kunis who win the round to even the cards at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Kunis pressing down a little harder on the pedal. Kreuk being crowded, cut off, and  now, for the first time, suppressed. Mila's all up in Krissy's grill, backing her up for the first time, working a ton of body now, and generally being more physical. It's not just that Kreuk can't get space to box now, she can't get off, either. Mila's keeping her on the defensive, putting flurries together that reduce her rival to countering in spots. Kreuk tries tying up to force breaks and get space, but Mila punches free, shoulders and shoves off, keeps punching. Kreuk's now working hard just to stay off the ropes, as Mila takes more and more canvas as the round goes on. By it's end, Kunis has not only gone up on the cards, but she's established firm control of the proceedings, despite the fact that her lead is only 48-47.

ROUND SIX:

Desperate times call for desperate measures. And Kristin Kreuk is desperate. The Canadian cutie knows what it's like to be in the streets. She had three stables in four years before finding some stability in Cracker Country, and she's not keen to be changing addresses again. So. Desperate measures. Or, as they call them on the mats, headlocks. Kreuk needs to slow Kunis, limit the length of the heavy exchanges, and create space to box. Headlocks. Because, while she was unable to tie up Mila sufficiently to force breaks in the last round by wrapping around her arms and torso, pulling down her head and securing it leaves the referee two choices. He can adjourn this thing to a carpet or break the fighters, and, of course, he does the latter. Over and over again. And this has the desired effect. Kreuk slows Mila's offense, breaks up her rhythm, forces restart after restart during which Kreuk can jab and box for points while Mila works to close, only to be tied up and sent back to the range Kristin prefers again. It's frustrating stuff for Kunis, so much so that, by the end of the round, she's shoving Krissy and  barking at the referee to warn her. Which, he does. Kreuk, of course, blithely ignores him and continues her wrestling tactics right to the bell, securing the round and evening things at 57.

ROUND SEVEN:

The term you're looking for is "brawl". And, a nasty one at that. It's all Kreuk's fault, of course. Her wrestling tactics force Mila to respond in kind, and, soon, we've got intertwined brunettes dragging one another all over the ring while banging whenever they can get a hand free. The referee continuously warns both about grabbing, holding, and holding and hitting, but, neither pays him any mind. This is a contest of wills and physicality now, and both are determined to win it. Goodness knows how the judges would have scored this mess had it gone on like this the entire round, but, it doesn't. About 100 seconds in, it all changes. Kreuk lands a body blow and Mila nearly sinks to her knees. Kreuk won't allow it, however, getting shoulders under her and walking her back to the ropes while banging away at her belly and ribs. Kunis is absolutely STRICKEN, her legs jelly, trying to bunch up, but being prevented from doing so by Krissy. When Mila's helpless on the ropes, Kreuk helps herself to her nearly-helpless brunette rival. It's almost all body stuff, grim, nasty body stuff, belly, ribs, lats, with the odd uppercut upstairs thrown in for good measure. In the final seconds, Krissy opens up a new front and goes rack, hammering away at Mila's chest to the bell. Kunis barely able to get back to her stool when Kreuk is pulled off by the referee. Post-round replays confirm what veteran fight observers suspected. The blow that crippled Kunis was low and perfectly screened by Krissy, who's won the round wide to lead 67-66.

ROUND EIGHT:

Mila still suffering some as the eighth begins, but she doesn't have time to bleed. Kunis fighting through the pain and going right after Krissy again, determined to fight through Kreuk's questionable tactics and take back control of the fight. And that's exactly what she does. Mila more aggressive than ever now, shoving Krissy as she tries to clinch, banging away heavy with both hands at any chance she gets, backing Kreuk up, and, again, being generally more physical. Until. Another body blow sends Kunis to her knees! Mila's gloves paw below her waist as she looks up with wet eyes at the referee. But, again, Kreuk has made sure he was screened before she went below the belt. Kunis' corner protesting loudly while Krissy stands looking all innocent in a neutral corner as the referee counts. Mila lead-legged, in agony, but somehow struggles back to her feet. The referee appears to think about stopping it for a second or two, but, he gives Mila the mandatory and waives Kreuk forward. Kristin walks into a vicious barrage of leather. She's poked a hornet's nest and she's getting stung. Kunis has no legs, but she's got fists, and Krissy's attempt at clean up is frontal assault stuff, so Mila's able to blunt it immediately, throwing Krissy to the defensive. Kreuk could stick and move all day now, if she wanted. But she wants to finish, and Mila's not having any, sending sweat flying from Krissy's head with a solid right hook before CRUMPLING TO THE MAT AGAIN! A right hook, a VERY low right hook, has Kunis curled into a ball one her left side, her gloves again pawing below her waist. The crowd not at all happy and Kunis' corner nearing apoplexy. Kunis staring up at the referee, tear-filled eyes pleading, but, again, he's seen nothing. She wants to get up, but she can't make anything work. All she can do is watch as he counts, finally closing her eyes tightly just before he reaches ten. And, he DOES reach it. And the bell DOES ring. And Kreuk DOES celebrate while Kunis is helped back to her stool by her soon-to-be former corner people. Soon-to-be-former. Because your winner by KO8 and STILL a member of HISC is Kristin Kreuk!

AFTER:

Security in the ring immediately following this one, realizing no good can come of allowing any mixing of the two corners, even though they both come from the same stable. Portman up on the apron staring death across the ring at Kreuk, whispering something in Mila's ear. What that is, no one will ever know. Williams, with a fight coming up, is absent from the scene, and Danes remains on the outside, her face betraying nothing. This is a tinderbox and any spark could set it off, but security makes sure that spark never comes. Portman and Kunis are escorted out with Mila's corner, Kunis being helped back to the dressing room, one arm wrapped around a second and another around Natalie, who has one more over-the-shoulder death stare for Krissy. When they're gone, security climbs out and allows Kreuk and company to have the ring. Krissy, is, as you might expect, unrepentant post-fight, answering questions about alleged low blows by ignoring them. "Everybody knows she can't take it to the body," she says with a nod. "I knew if I got some work done down there, she'd fold up, and that's exactly what happened. I did HISC a favor tonight by sending her packing. She's a flash in the pan. She had a good 18 months, that's all. A bit of cream filling wrapped inside the stale, moldy donut that's the rest of her career. She doesn't BELONG at HISC. HISC is for WINNERS like ME, not weak-bodied losers like Kunis."
