BEFORE:

"I've been ASKING Pointy when I was going to get a chance to come to Asylum," says Rhona with a smile. "But, good things come to her who waits...and bugs the boss."

"Rhona's an excellent challenge for me," says Daniela with a nod. "She's big, strong, and can hit. Just like a certain Portuguese Princess'. Well. Not QUITE like her. Not quite."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Mars, Bringer of War' by Gustav Holst..."

McCarthy: "Yugoslav WHO?"

O'Dell: "GUS...never mind! And on her way to the ring is Bazz's own Rhona Mitra!"

Cassie: "Rhona the typical Bazz big. She's tough, physical, and has tons of power."

O'Dell: "And, as she gets into the ring and is helped off with that robe to reveal a metallic gray two-piece, you can see she has another typical Bazz trait...she's in great shape."

Cassie: "If you fight for Bazz, you're in great shape. Or, you end up lying on the side of the hill in the rain, because Pointy WILL leave you there..."

O'Dell: "And we go from classical to metal, because that's 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica and here comes 'The Portuguese Princess', Daniela Ruah!"

Tess: "Ruah has turned things around in a big way since that tenth-round 'come from ahead' loss to Lawrence. She's been on a major roll, beating some solid competition, and she needs to keep on rolling if she wants to keep up in Front Street's ultra-competitive big divisions."

O'Dell "Ruah into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that baby blue bikini she usually sports, and now it's time for some picks. Tess likes Dani. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Ruah's mediocre and I think Mitra has some ability. I'm going with Rhona."

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "Goin' with my Bazz girl Rhona."

O'Dell: "Let's see who's right. There's the bell. Ruah, as always, and like all Front Street bigs, wants to establish that heavy jab right away. She's getting it on target immediately and Rhona responding in kind. Ruah, of course, has a lot of power, and she usually has an advantage in that category, but, perhaps not tonight..."

Cassie: "No 'perhaps'. The only girls at Bazz who can hit with Rhona are Angie, Moon, and Bridgy Regs...all of whom are WELTERS..."

O'Dell: "Mitra getting into a good rhythm herself and we've got some very nice gun platform stuff going on here. Both women using the left to set up the right and putting punches together well..."

McCarthy: "We're seeing some good boxing here. Both girls moving the feet, head, and hands, setting things up, getting leather on target."

O'Dell: "And lots of leather flying. This is a high work rate for a lightweight fight. Both girls very busy in the first, and, I suspect both are in good enough shape to keep up this pace for the rest of the fight, if past experience is any guide, anyway. Final seconds tick off and the first is in the books. Good round, but Ruah the winner, I think."

Tess: "No question about it, and that gives Dani the 10-9 lead."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second begins with more ranged attacks. Little adjustment by Mitra now, sliding right outside Ruah's jab, making Dani step with to square..."

McCarthy: "I like this move. Just because Mitra CAN stand in front of Ruah doesn't mean she HAS to. This little change in terms can make a big difference."

O'Dell: "And that's what it's doing. Mitra's getting off first now because she's making Ruah reset to get her jab on target. It hasn't made a huge difference. Dani's still landing, still putting punches together, but, it's no longer Rhona responding to Dani, like it was in the first. Now, it's Dani responding after Rhona gets leather home..."

McCarthy: "And that's all it takes to do something as important as change who's fighting lead. Just a slight adjustment..."

Cassie: "And Rhona's quickness, which is off the charts for a lightweight."

O'Dell: "Mitra slipping punches better in this round as well, again, a result of the combination of the angle and the quickness. Ruah still landing solid shot, mind, still scoring well with both hands, but, as we approach the bell to end the second, it's Rhona in control. And there it is. Two rounds in the books."

Tess: "And we're even at 19."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Third begins and Mitra continuing to rotate counter clockwise, away from Ruah's jab. Dani doing a little bit of a back step now, changing the geometry slightly, giving herself better angles to throw the left. Rhona tucking the head a bit behind the right shoulder, looking to catch some of those jabs as Ruah swings them a bit wider..."

Tess: "This is good technical stuff, isn't it, Mac..."

McCarthy: "Sure is, Walmart. A lot of subtle things happening here as each fighter looks to gain small advantages."

O'Dell: "And both have been able to make some gains. Mitra's rotation has changed things in her favor, but Ruah's mitigating some of that now. She's not back to fighting lead, but she's not allowing Rhona to do it consistently, either."

Cassie: "You know what else is interesting? Neither fighter's looked to land a serious power shot yet, and, as we've said, both of them can HIT. Both content to box for the moment. Not sure how long that's going to last."

O'Dell: "My guess is it's not going to make it ten rounds. But, right now, it's all about long-limbed boxing, all about the effort to line up your opponent and score points with clean, solid leather. For the third round in a row, both fighters having some success doing that, but, as the bell sounds, for the second round in a row, Rhona's done a bit more of it."

Tess: "And Mitra now pulls into a slight 29-28 lead."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Fourth starts with Ruah stepping forward to cut Mitra's outside angle. Dani now getting outside Rhona to Mitra's right and keeping her inside the left jab. Mitra responds by stepping to and banging body and we're getting some heavy shelling now..."

Cassie: "And there's the answer to the power shot question, because some big blasts are going off!"

O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Mitra backs Ruah up a step with a solid right hand and Dani responds with a big flurry that sends Rhona back a step. Little difference in strategies here as Mitra's looking to work a lot of body, while Ruah's in head-hunting mode..."

Tess: "Rhona banging those ribs some serious shots, Jenny. She works up, but quickly right back down."

O'Dell: "Dani digging the odd shot to the midsection, but mostly popping the left upstairs to clear the field for solid right hands. It's another good, two-way round, with both brunettes doing a lot of scoring. Ten seconds left and a BLISTERING exchange sees sweat fly from both fighters' heads at the bell. Ruah's round this time."

McCarthy: "And we're tied at 38."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Heading for the halfway point and we're back to ranged attacks. Ruah's forward step being countered a different way by Mitra now, as Rhona uses a drop step in the opposite direction to maintain distance and slip off true..."

Tess: "This thing's turning into a chess game, isn't it, Mac?"

McCarthy: "Like I said before, Walmart, lots of subtle adjustments going on that are creating small advantages. The key is, you have to score points when you get those advantages, and both these fighters are."

O'Dell: "Because both have remained very busy. We're seeing the work rate of a bantamweight fight here, as neither fighter has slowed down as we approach the halfway point. Both still working jab first, as they have most of the fight..."

Cassie: "And Rhona getting off first again as she's making Ruah adjust to get square. Using those angles very effectively."

O'Dell: "Headed into the last 30 seconds, and we've had one round of banging and four rounds of boxing. Both of these fighters have shown they can do either effectively. Five seconds to go. Good double-pop jab from Rhona and that's the fifth. Mitra back on the lead."

Tess: "48-47. Anybody's fight with five to go."

ROUND SIX:

O'Dell: "Second half of the fight begins with a double-tap jab from Ruah, who steps forward behind it and hooks body. Mitra back steps and Dani right back to the jab, looking to get off quickly now and pre-empt Rhona, keep her on the defensive..."

Tess: "This is the more aggressive Ruah we saw in the fourth, but Rhona not going to stand and thump with her this time."

O'Dell: "She's not, but Ruah's getting a rhythm down with those quick double jabs. Instead of BANGING those out heavy, she's SNAPPING them, using them to hold Rhona in pace for the right hand follows. Mitra, of course, responding, but Ruah's fighting lead now."

Cassie: "Rhona's spending too much time covering up right now. She's mostly fighting in counter."

O'Dell: "And that appears to be Ruah's plan, suppressive fire to slow Mitra's offense and allow room for some solid right hands, and it's working very well as we head down the stretch in this one. Rhona being backed up a little by some solid flurries as Ruah controls the round right to the bell."

McCarthy: "And we're even again, this time at 57."

ROUND SEVEN:

O'Dell: "Seventh round starts with more of Ruah coming forward. Dani's all about jab-jab, and she's got Mitra backing up to try to maintain her angles..."

Cassie: "Rhona's fighting off her back foot too much right now. She's not able to step into anything, and that's letting Ruah be more aggressive."

O'Dell: "And Ruah is GETTING more aggressive, pushing forward behind that left, looking to get more behind those big right hands. Rhona doing a good job defensively, making things tough for Dani, but she's not getting much leather off."

McCarthy: "Has to stand and bang, I think. Maybe not the rest of the way, but long enough to break this up, because Ruah's on a roll."

O'Dell: "And she's rolling down hill right now with Mitra spending most of her time trying not to get run over. Dani patient, measuring, then landing hard right hands. Mitra firing back in counter, but the Front Streeter responds with more leather. And we've got some BLISTERING back and forth stuff as we head into the final ten seconds! Both girls letting 'em go and landing some solid shots and there's the bell! Big leather landed two-way at the end, but Ruah's round off the first two and a half minutes."

Tess: "And Dani's won back to back rounds for the first time and has a 67-66 lead."

ROUND EIGHT:

O'Dell: "Into the eighth now and Ruah stepping forward againa and now Rhona's there to meet her and here we go! Mitra not backing up now, wants to stand ground and fight off her front foot and we are seeing some seriously heavy salvos from two hard hitters as a result!"

Cassie: "This is what we were seeing at the end of the last round."

O'Dell: "And Mitra clearly likes the change in terms. Ruah seems pretty comfortable with it as well. Both are getting off lusty and they're actually going from middle to very short distances, clinching, being broken by the referee, and starting the process all over again."

McCarthy: "Seeing some serious body work in there when they get to close quarters, as you often do."

O'Dell: "No question about it. Ribs and abs getting punished in there, but there's plenty of upstairs work going on, too. Both brunettes remaining very busy, both landing heavy leather, and neither willing to give ground. They've basically used almost nothing besides the middle of the ring the entire round. GOOD RIGHT HAND, RHONA at the bell! Maybe the best punch of the fight landed by Mitra to end an action-packed eighth. Rhona's round."

Tess: "And we're even again 76-76."

ROUND NINE:

O'Dell: "Two rounds to go, this fight is dead even, and both fighters clearly know it, because they're right after one another off the bell. Ruah forward, Rhona there to meet her and here we go again!"

Cassie: "Nothing sloppy about this, Jenny. No winging haymakers, but there are a lot of hard shots being exchanged right now. Both girls taking fire and able to ship it with sturdy legs."

O'Dell: "No question about the shot being exchanged right now. Both women being backed up a half step by some of these but stepping right back forward into her next salvo. GOOD right hand Rhona! That got Ruah's attention and DOWN GOES MITRA!"

Tess: "Straight right. Right on the button!"

O'Dell: "And Mitra knocked flat to her back! Count at three. Four. Five. Rhona sits up at six. Rolls to hands and knees at seven. Eight. Tries to stand up AND STUMBLES BACK TO ALL FOURS! Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Rhona close, but can't beat the count and your winner by KO9 is 'The Portuguese Princess', Daniela Ruah!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore."

Tess: "I have our winner, Daniela Ruah, and, Dani, how tough was it in there?"

Daniela: "Tough as any fight I've ever been involved in. I told her that when I went over to talk to her in the corner. This thing could have gone either way, and, I was relieved when she didn't beat the count."

Tess: "Obviously a big win for you. Both your divisions are pretty crowded, though, so, what's next?"

Daniela: "I don't worry about that. I'll take a few days off, get back to training, and wait to see who management books me against next."
