BEFORE: Someone's trying to annoy Yvonne Strahovski here! That's a general feeling among the Las Vegas audience who is set to witness the Main Event which itself is a great honor for Jennifer Carpenter given her hit & miss FCBA career thus far. But she's made the lightweight Fighter of the Year 2014 work really hard before and has entered the Odette Yustman craddle of filth, the California brunette still dwelling on the missed title opportunity due to technical issues which saw Katy Perry steal the headlines in recent weeks: "I had a slow 2014 season but could have saved it by wrenching Yvonne's guts out until that busty creature came and took away what should have been mine! I've never been so annoyed since I got killed off instead of Amber Heard few years back on one of my Hollywood projects! Well, Katy can suck on her straps now as I have to make sure Strahovski still remembers me being there! This is a win/win match-up for me! I took Jennifer apart on her debut and I realize she won't go down as easily tonight BUT she will eventually go down and given her personal feud with Yvonne, there's no way that blonde witch ignores me anymore! (...) Yeah, it was my owner's fault I didn't get to fight for the title but beating Carpenter and Strahovski is always something to be proud of! And I'm STILL the reigning Ice Hotel champ after all!"
Meanwhile Jennifer Carpenter believes she can revive her SSB prospects by taking Odette's scalp and plans to mount a strong run across the lightweights this year: "Odette's been really upset over the title no-show but that's a good situation for me! She will lose her temper quickly and I'm a far superior fighter compared to our previous fight. In fact I hardly remember it anymore and there's every chance I spoil whatever plans the LCA and Odette have of taking Strahovski on in the spring! Just watch me expose her bendiness being no match to my brawling skills!"
Odette Yustman wears a navy blue bikini set and black gloves. Black hair tied in a ponytail. Jennifer Carpenter wears a red bikini top, black hip-huggers and red gloves. Brown hair long and straight, tucked behind the ears. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Round 1: Yustman smoked Carpenter in less than two rounds back in 2008 but there's little chance of a deja vu as the older brunette slams a huge combo straight between Odette's arms and tags her chin as a result to gain the early upper hand. She works the high-tempo jabbing and quickly indicates she didn't come to Vegas for nothing and makes steady connection with Odette's body throughout the opening round. Yustman's pushed on the back foot and unable to tame the onslaught, has to weave around in defensive manner but still gets spiked over the top in the final minute as Jennifer shows she's hungry for some action and zips across Odette's mouth just before the bell to confirm her mean intentions.
Round 2: Carpenter in more brawling display, digs into Yustman's ribcage and stuns her in the middle of the ring before thumping her on the mouth and reeling onto her heels. Odette gets blocked in response and eats more leather on the stomach as Jennifer maintains the close range assault and prevents the younger brunette from any escape. Hard jabs crash off the ribcage and slowly push Yustman back to the ropes; indeed Jennifer manages to break her foe down and enforces a couple of telling scowls from the apparently hurting Ice Hotel champion. Odette has to lean against the ropes and seek a late clinch as Carpenter just pounds her arms aside and clips the mounds just before the bell to score another round in surprisingly routine fashion.
Round 3: Jennifer looks to dominate another close range brawl but Odette beats her for a quick overhand and nails her on the chin before adding more facial leather and pushing the older brunette back. Desperate slaps from Yustman follow as the Ice Hotel queen tries to get back into this fight and feels like she needs to punish Carpenter as soon as possible... Jennifer strikes back from behind the guard and refuses to yield an inch but the trigger happy exchange leaves her backing into the turnbuckle as Odette lands the better punches and just pushes her back to the corner where she switches to some gut assault to pull one round back despite Carpenter clinching her late in the going and preventing further damage.
Round 4: Odette looks more confident now and slices Jennifer's guard in the close range tangle before moving up high and menacing around the cheeks. Carpenter still sticks to her game plan but has to step back when the younger actress rocks her head back a couple of times and looks to jump in with more venom. Yustman hassling and stalking thereafter, making Jennifer run for cover and that's a sign of supreme experience and general success as Yustman does make Carpenter look a bit pedestrian just trying to avoid the punches instead of just lashing out at her instead. Odette tries to keep her composure despite all the ducking & weaving but gives the older brunette a really long and evil look after the bell.
Round 5: More of the same in the fifth, Carpenter threatens to fumble all the early advantage as she allows Odette to improve her movement and high tempo assault which combined with a better precision leaves the older brunette nursing a couple of shiners through the minute mark. Yustman works the single hand approach and scores well through Jennifer's guard which suddenly looks wonky at best and the older actress just can't find a proper response; she skims off Yustman's guard and the midriff slaps are too weak to make any difference too... A crips hook burts through Jennifer's ribcage to start the final minute and throws her onto the ropes as Odette comes crashing down on her foe and thumps her on the chest to enforce loud moans, an uppercut switch tags Carpenter's jaw and spins her back to the turnbuckle where Jennifer just covers up in earmuff and allows Yustman to pound her breadbasket with drilling jabs to take the lead at half-way stage despite all the early troubles.
Round 6: Jennifer's lack of regular action begins to show according to the freelance pundits in the Las Vegas crowd but Odette falls for the same trick and rushes her approach for once only to eat a clubbing hook right on the nose and stumble to the side seconds into the sixth. Carpenter moves in to pound her face over the top thereafter and scores well to bruise Yustman's otherwise pretty looks and backs her into the ropes switching well on the rack. Odette tries to clinch her but gets spiked on the ribs and Carpenter remains there punishing the breadbasket similar to the way Yustman punished her own in the previous round. Odette squeals and aches but finds no response and just wraps her arms around Jennifer's neck who pounds away to glory AND CHOPS YUSTMAN DOWN just before the two minute mark... all the bendiness just proves worthless to a proper gut assault and Odette kneels down hugging her right side as Carpenter screams out in delight. The count reaches seven before a visibly shaken and hurt Yustman is up but Jennifer just keeps her trapped along the ropes and goes for the facial assault to complete the rout; Odette's head sways back & forth and the Ice Hotel champ is close to going up in smoke here only for the bell to save her pretty little head from getting knocked off to the audience.... HUGE round for the underdog!!!
Round 7: Odette's still hurting and has to use her bendy skills just to avoid the older brunette's juggernaut as she fails to mount any comeback and bellows out into ducking escape instead. Carpenter knows she's on the brink of putting a Top 10 ranked lightweight away in lights out fashion but needs to polish her efforts as the single punches aren't accurate enough to throw Yustman over the edge. The defensive bends and weaves saves the younger brunette from a complete disaster but does she have anything left to turn this fight around? Carpenter pulls away on the scorecards and looks safe in case of a decision according to the Las Vegas crowd as Odette sags on the ropes late on and allows Jennifer to pound her breadbasket again and almost slumps alltogether with Carpenter digging the leather in ass-kicking fashion! After the bell Yustman looks a beaten woman and Jennifer smiles back to the crowd in ultra confident fashion. Is Rachel Nichols watching this? Because we suspect Yvonne Strahovski most certainly is!
Round 8: It seems like Carpenter wants to add more insult to Yustman's injury rather than plain knock her out as she digs into her guts again and bends forward before thumping the breadbasket in commanding but not exactly put away fashion. Odette's still affected physically though and can only clinch the fellow brunette to catch any respite but that won't get her into a winning position at all. Jennifer's happy to wrestle around with her and shows supreme skills pushing Yustman back to the turnbuckle where she can outwork the aching foe and send more jabs on the ribcage and navel before clipping the breasts as well. Odette in a weak tummy assault, has to accept Carpenter's terms and looks to be short of any comeback ideas as the great upset is really close now!
Round 9: Odette barely walks from her stool and still hugs her right side to indicate perhaps a cracked rib bothering her; Carpenter showboats a little and spikes single hands on the heads but Yustman bends away from them and then launches a straight jab on the jaw THAT ROCKS THE OLDER BRUNETTE on the spot... That almost broke Jennifer's jaw and Yustman suddenly jumps at her with plethora of leather and strikes on the cheeks to sway the head back & forth as Carpenter's fallen into the oldest trap in the business... Las Vegas crowd roars in new found support and Yustman cross hooks her opponent's mouth to bend Jennifer forward and nail her with another uppercut on the chin... DOWN GOES CARPENTER.. just ragdolls flat on her back as Odette emerges pretty solid looking now and the aching ribcage proves to be a fake!!! She's right back in it as Jennifer scampers back to her feet at eight and looks in complete shock at her... So much for the plain sailing and now Odette makes her regret the showboating as she lays into her body from close range; Carpenter covered up behind the high guard and still nursing an aching jaw that might prove to be cracked... makes no difference to Yustman raining leather on the midsection and sending Jennifer butt-in-ropes down the stretch as the 10-7 round looms the LA brunette close to pulling this one back on the cards after all. At the bell it's all Odette thumping Jennifer's guts and making the underdog squeal in pain.
Round 10: Carpenter with an all-in attack after the previous round disaster and she nails Odette on the nose with a heavy one-two which drops some liquid from the nostrils but Yustman refuses to step back and leans on the older actress and goes around her elbows to maintain her advantage. Free-for-all punchfest gives Jennifer the much needed success as she snaps Odette's ponytail around more frequently and makes her gasp for air but suddenly wheels fall off as Odette's ribcage attack pierces Carpenter's liver area and leaves her hugging it in tremendous pain and dropping the facial assault... Yustman's quick to react and silences Carpenter's moans with a brutal right hook to the jaw that shuts her eyes and adds a left handed haymaker on the temple... DOWN GOES JENNIFER AGAIN... and surely that is that!!! Carpenter's down on all fours and holding back the tears but she still doesn't want to quit the fight she dominated for so long... up at eight with misty eyes and looking very suspiscious in the liver area, she basically leans to the side to protect the aching guts and somehow gets the referee's approval... But Yustman's got nothing left other than punching her guts out and she drills her ribcage immiediately after the command making full use of Carpenter's physical shape... she pounds the older brunette to the ropes where she just tears her ribcage apart, closes her eyes again and makes scream out in utmost pain.... Ref realizes he's made a mistake, and hauls Yustman off her prey before Jennifer suffers some fractured ribs here!!! Once he does that Carpenter just collapses on the canvas and doesn't have the strenght to even moan out her terrible fate on what promised to be such a fine day at the office. TKO10 Odette Yustman!!!
AFTER: Odette leans over the ropes trying to catch her breath and only glances at the fallen Jennifer who almost handed her the upset result and looked poised to knock the Ice Hotel queen all the way back to Los Angeles for a long time. A more experienced and more importantly properly trained fighter would have send Yustman to the cleaners long before the tenth round upheaval and Odette managed to trick her into a fake injury that finally broke the resilience and turned the tables on Carpenter in impressive come-from-behind fashion.
However that kind of performance won't impress the likes of Yvonne Strahovski and Odette knows that all too well, that's why she's angry and fails to fully dwell on the hard-earned success. Meanwhile Jennifer might have fallen 0-2 in the head-to-head but looks poised to finally attract further interest as she almost beat the Top 10 ranked girl and there's a feeling Odette won't be mocking her pefromance much in the upcoming weeks. This was more than enough to shrug the perennial underdog label for Carpenter who must look into 2015 full of confidence now once she heals up the sore ribs! Girls like Emily Ratajkowski or Foxfire's latest signing Alexandra Daddario sound like very possible targets for the brunette actress!
Final result: Odette Yustman def. Jennifer Carpenter TKO10.
