LUCY HALE VS NATALIE PORTMAN (Pretty Little Punchers vs Hawkeye International) Results: Lookout Writing: Archer
Before: Lucy Hale fighting with the “big girls” of the Flyweight Division now, seems not at all intimidated to be facing off against Natalie Portman, a multi-time flyweight champion. “She is exactly the kind of fighter I need to be facing right now!” A bright-eyed Lucy tells the press. “She’s a veteran with a proven championship record and she’s still fighting well. So if I can beat her, it will show just how far I’ve come as a flyweight and will prove that I deserve a shot at the title. I am really looking forward to this bout!”
Natalie Portman has that HISC trademark condescension when it comes to other fighters: “Yes, I would say Lucy has improved. I remember the days, not so long ago, when HISC used Kristin Kreuk to keep her in line. Now I would have to say it is a mark of progress that she’s about to taken down by me. Those Pretty Little Losers are a source for endless hilarity in the HISC locker room. I’m hoping for at least a few good jokes from her performance. I do like to keep my material fresh.”
Lucy arrives at the ring in a new black bikini with gold lightning bolts across the front and back in a V-shape with words HALE STORM between the bolts. Black gloves and boots in gold laces complete the attire. Lucy’s hair hanging straight and loose. Natalie in white bandeau bikini with navy blue gloves and boots (white laces for both). Lucy eagerness showing as she is fairly bouncing during the instructions while Natalie looks at these antics with amusement tinged with disdain.
R1: Lucy zipping out of her corner, but she seems surprise Natalie by not launching into a reckless attack. Instead, Lucy shows some neat footwork as she closes in on Natalie and manages to catch the veteran square in the face with an overhand right—then puts a follow-uo left into the Portman breadbasket, doubling her up with a startled OOOFFFFF!!! Lucy then swings back and bangs Natalie on opposite sides of the head, then planting another shot in the midsection. Natalie retreats and regroups as Lucy swarms after her. Younger fighter gets excited and careless as she swings for a knockout. Natalie able to evade these sweeping punches and strikes back with the jab. Lucy getting stung to the face calms down and resumes her more effective feint-and-strike tactic. Natalie settling down by her defenses protects herself from further serious damage, but round goes to Lucy Hale by a convincing margin.
R2: Lucy resumes the attack in this round, but Natalie now challenges the younger fighter and it makes for fine back-and-forth leather exchange, Natalie using her right to strike at Lucy’s face with growing intensity. Lucy’s face pinking up from the blows, but she tries to keep moving evasively while striking at Natalie’s body (Portman doing a good job of keeping her high guard up to protect her own face). Lucy able to duck several Portman swings and score hard to Natalie’s flanks, bruising up her ribs. Natalie finally forced to lower gloves to protect her body, but Lucy leaps in to push up Natalie’s chin with uppercuts, then swat the ex-champ’s cheeks with lefts and rights. Natalie looks stung and falls back. Lucy takes another round, though by a much closer margin.
R3: Battle continues in the third stanza as Natalie comes forward with a clear determination to take control of this fight. Lucy fighting fiercely to maintain the pressure, but Natalie isn’t falling for the feints like she did earlier and smacking Lucy hard with a countering right. Lucy’s cheekbones are starting to swell from repeated impacts, but she keeps trying to land on the increasingly hard-to-reach Natalie. Late in the round, Natalie launches a full scale offensive, bombarding Lucy with punches, alternating between head and body attacks that soon have the younger fighter looking confused. Natalie backing Lucy up at the bell and wins her first round.
R4: Natalie starts slow this round, luring Lucy into resuming her attack, but once Lucy comes forward she is greeted with painfully accurate jabbing that opens a cut in her right eyebrow and adds to the swelling of the Pretty Little Puncher’s cheekbones. Lucy is again fighting off a full-throated Natalie Portman attack and that look of confusion comes to her eyes as she tries to protect herself from the incoming punches. Natalie bears down, forcing Lucy back towards the ropes, but Lucy’s footwork manages to allow her escape to midring. Natalie now trying to cut off Lucy’s escape efforts, but not able to achieve that and has to settle for evening the score by winning her second round wide.
R5: Lucy fighting back as Natalie comes back at her at the opening of the round. Lucy looks very determined, but so does Natalie. Punch counts are rising rapidly as the seconds tick away and the issue remains in doubt. Fighters are striking at head and bodies trying to stay one step ahead of the other’s defenses. Lucy finding able to do the most damage when she can get to Natalie’s chin. Every blow she can land on the Portman chin sends a tremor through her body, but trying to do this means Lucy herself is banged severely about the head and her movements grow sluggish. Still, Lucy is hanging in and now going after Natalie’s ribs to make the ex-champ shudder, but then Natalie catches Lucy with an uppercut to stagger her. Lucy able to stay on her feet to the bell, but Natalie takes the round and moves ahead on the cards.
R6: Natalie heartened by the way R5 ended comes out determined to do even more damage this round, but runs into a more determined Lucy Hale than she was expecting. Lucy’s back to her feint-and-strike tactics that catch Natalie by surprise. Rising right uppercut gets in under a too-loose Natalie Portman guard and cracks up into her chin. Natalie reeling back on buckling knees, but she still has presence of mind to keep Lucy from landing her follow-up punches. Natalie clearly shaken and on the defensive with Lucy trying to find openings. Lucy able to hurd Natalie back to the ropes, but Natalie resorts to repeated clinches to keep Lucy from taking full advantage. Still, Lucy clearly dominating the action this round and wins it wide.
R7: Natalie grimly trying to claw her way back into control as Lucy resumes her attack this round. Natalie’s got that jab back again, especially the right hand which is now doing a lot of damage to Lucy’s midsection forcing her to slow her attack. However Lucy not retreating and she’s working Natalie’s ribs again. Natalie hunching up in an effort to protect her flanks but she’s fighting back stubbornly. Lucy taking a lot of punishment to the body but finally she’s rewarded as Natalie as she finds the openings to put leather on Natalie’s nose. Twin trickles of crimson coming down Natalie’s mouth and chin, but the HISC fighter’s eyes burn with cold defiance. Lucy takes the round close and can look with some satisfaction at Natalie’s swollen and bleeding nose. It seems to make her own bruised and swelling face feel better.
R8: Natalie comes out looking forlorn and tentative. Lucy sees the opportunity and comes forward. A couple of quick shots to the ribs to bring down Natalie’s high guard and Lucy cranks up for a smashing right. Just as Lucy unloads the blockbuster right, Natalie drops down and comes shooting up with blockbuster uppercut right of her own. NATALIE WAS FAKING! Lucy realizes this an instant too late as her blockbuster right sails over Natalie’s head and Portman’s right uppie explodes under chin. Lucy is lifted onto her toes by the blow and Natalie swarms into the opening with a barrage of punches. Lucy stumbling backwards must be working on instinct as she gets her gloves up and jabs. One shot catches Natalie squarely in her damaged nose and Natalie all but screams into her mouthpiece. The shot gains Lucy a few moments to pull herself together, but though she has her jab operating again, it is not enough. Natalie is all fired up as she knocks Lucy’s gloves aside and just smashes her head from side to side with frightening fury! Lucy’s legs just fold up and she is pitched backwards into the ropes, then slides down into a sitting position, gloves in her lap and a glazed look in her eyes. Natalie snarling at her until referee pushes her back to neutral corner. Extra time no help to Lucy as she is unable to do more than clutch pathetically at the lower rope as she is counted out. The Winner: Natalie Portman KO8
After; Natalie seething in her corner after the fight, waiting impatiently for Lucy to be revived and then charging over to drag the battered Lucy on a walk of shame. Lucy clearly still not recovered paws at Natalie trying unsuccessfully to get free, Natalie puts Lucy right arm behind her back in an armlock to keep the PLP fighter moving. Mixed reaction from crowd, but Natalie ignores the boos and even adds a wedgie by pulling up on Lucy’s bikini bottoms to make her yelp. She finishes by shoving Lucy into the arms of an angry Ashley Benson and Sasha Pieterse.
“That little punk had it coming,” a still angry Natalie complains later to the press, “she nearly broke my nose. No, she was not more of a fighter than I expected. I handled her, didn’t I? Knocked her cold and believe me, that was almost as good a sight as parading her around the ring.” Calming down somewhat she adds: “I hope this makes those PLP jobbers realize they are still not in the same class as HISC and that goes double for Lucy Hale.”
It’s not until the next day that a defiant Lucy Hale tells the press: “She can try denying it, but anyone who saw that fight knows I was keeping up with her. She tricked me in the 8th and that’s on me, but she had no reason to treat me like that after the fight. Well, of course, there is a reason: she’s a typical HISC bully and I can promise you—and her—we at the PLP won’t put up with it!”
A good effort by Lucy Hale, but she was undone by the tricky veteran Natalie Portman. Natalie showed she can still handle talented youngsters, but as every veteran knows, for every one you beat, there are three more young fighters coming up to challenge you. That probably explains the post-fight walk more than the bloody nose—Natalie’s trying to send a message to future such challengers, but will they listen? Fortunately for the fans, they probably won’t.
