It’s a pleasure to watch two master craftswoman at work, nothing wasted, nothing wild—in the end, the better woman took a hard fought decision from a gallant loser in a prime exhibition of hard nosed sweet science.

This bout could have been fought in a go-go dancer’s cage with each woman looking to get close, work from sly angles and set up short, devastating right hands to the chin with swatting, digging body work, or stubby little jabs, Both women would enjoy moments of glory at the other’s expense as first one, then the other would take her turn on top. Hurting from crippling body shots, Jones would turn on a sneaky right cross to put Williams on her back in the third. Vanessa would return the favour in the sixth, icing Catherine with a carving right I tight and dropping the brunette to HER back. Jones would separate herself in the tenth with the final knockdown, cuffing Vanessa’s head a timing hook, then sinking in the short hook to liver to put a drained Williams quivering on one knee. It had been a bruising, sharp punching affair which had seen both women soak up crowd-pleasing punishment with Jones earning her hardest fought duke in  a long time. Significantly, Catherine steered clear of Vanessa’s trunks, whether out of respect for the fellow veteran or for some other reason. She proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that when she fights hard and clean, Catherine Zeta Jones is a competitor.
