RACHEL MCADAMS vs JESSICA ALBA (Foxfire Boxing vs Fighting Academy) Results: Lookout Writing: Archer
Before: “Well, Jessica,” Rachel said chattily, “here we are again. What is this now--?”
“Our third fight, I’ve won one and you’ve won one,” Jessica replied with a sickly sweet smile, “I would have thought you’d have the sense to be satisfied with that.”
“Now, Jess, dear, you know I would never settle for that,” Rachel replied with a sharpness in her voice. “Not after you beat me so badly in our first fight.”
“I am surprised you can remember that fight,” Jessica replied, “you were an awfully good punching bag. I like to think I set you up for Neve Campbell—you know the Canadian thorn in your side.”
Rachel eyes narrowed: “I wouldn’t bring up her name, if I were you Jessica.”
“What fun would that be? Your nostrils always seem to flare so cutely whenever Neve’s name comes up. I have to say I enjoyed her beating you. If I couldn’t do it myself, I was willing to let her do it.”
“And your nostrils be bleeding when I break your nose,” Rachel hissed.
Jessica gave her another sickly sweet smile: “Promises, promises—keep an eye on your own nose, McAdams, I’ll be wearing gloves too and I can break your nose if I get lucky enough.”
“You’d have to be, you aren’t that good otherwise,” Rachel snapped.
“I’m good enough to beat you—that’s all that matters,” Jessica shot back.
The cold hostility of the two veterans hung heavy in the air as the two women faced off in the ring. Rachel was in a red one piece with black trim and red gloves. She wore red boots with black laces. Her red-brown auburn hair hung loose. Jessica was in a retro white one piece with white gloves (black laces) and white boots with matching laces. Her brunette hair was tightly bound in a body braid. Jessica gives Rachel a smirking sneer and Rachel responds with an icy look of contempt. Gloves smack together hard instead of just touching, but at least they head for their corners with no further ado.
R1: Jessica out of her corner fast, but after an initial feint at Rachel’s face to pull up her guard, she digs right in to McAdams’ unguarded gut. Rachel shuddered under these strong-armed impacts, hunches over and now Jessica raises some uppercuts into Rachel’s face. Rachel’s head knocked back and a tremble sent down her legs from these blows. Rachel has to back out of there and try to get her jab going. Jessica quick to block her way and alternate her attack from body to face. Rachel finally gets some quick jabs into Jessica’s face to draw her attention then goes down to the body for some payback hooks. Jessica circling to stay ahead of Rachel and manages to keep the Foxfire veteran thwarted to the bell ensuring she takes the first round.
R2: Rachel now the aggressive one in this round, zipping across the round to duel with Jessica when she was barely out of her own corner. Rachel punching hard to Alba’s belly, chest and ribs, trying to back her into her own turnbuckle. Jessica doesn’t want this and tries to fight her way clear. Sets up a running exchange of punches as McAdams keeps getting in front of Alba and driving the brunette back towards that corner. Really fierce as Jessica realizes she is being pushed back step by step and Rachel going all out to maintain the pressure. Toe to toe action with both fighters getting (and taking) a lot of leather. Rachel never quite able to get Jessica trapped against that turnbuckle, but she definitely kept her blocked and the Fighting Academy beauty looking badly beaten up around the face. Rachel’s sporting some swelling and reddening spots on her face, but Jessica definitely got the worst of it this stanza. Round goes to Rachel McAdams.
R3: Jessica and Rachel both out quickly this round and end up battling out in the wide open spaces of mid-ring. Really exciting action as Jessica is banging Rachel’s ribs and belly to slow her down. Rachel striking more to the chest and sternum of Jessica and this doesn’t seem to be stopping Ms. Alba. Jessica resorts to grinding her way in, now going after Rachel’s chin and jaw whenever she can find a gap in the McAdams defenses. Rachel forced to circle her way out of range, now lowers her counters to smite Alba’s belly. Jessica grimaces but she smacks back to Rachel’s jaw and finally McAdams backs off to regroup. Jessica seems slow to pursue and the round runs out of time, but Jessica Alba won this round.
R4: Rachel and Jessica go right at each other again. Rachel hooking to the belly and trying to duck in the incoming Jessica keeps throwing at her head. A number of punches keep glancing off Rachel’s head, but she hangs in and suddenly sees an opening. Lightning straight right plows right in Jessica Alba’s nose. OUCH! Jessica recoils in obvious distress and Rachel hammers Alba’s midsection hard as she pursues and then drives another straight right into that abused nose. JESSICA ALBA GOES DOWN! Jessica collapses to her knees her gloves pressed against the pain and then she toppled off to the side moaning. Rachel gives her a cruel look of satisfaction as she heads for neutral corner. Jessica struggling to get up, but blood is running from that damaged nose and it’s just as well as she can’t the count.
The winner: Rachel McAdams KO4!
After: “No, I wasn’t planning to break her nose, I just saw my opportunity to hurt her and I took it,” Rachel McAdams patiently explains to the press. “Any veteran would have done the same thing and don’t think Jessica didn’t want to do it to me! I just didn’t let her. So I would say this settles it: Rachel McAdams is superior to Jessica Alba 2-1. Next!”
“No, she didn’t actually break it,” Jessica Alba insists later, an unsightly bandage over her swollen nose, “and it did hurt—some—well--a lot-- well, a WHOLE lot. But she just stunned me. I couldn’t get my legs to work right after that. I couldn’t beat the count. I can’t tell you how frustrating that was for me to lose that fight! I was hurting her in the first and third, but I shouldn’t have let her nail me like that in the 4th. Even a veteran makes mistakes now and then, but I learn from mine. I’ll do much better next time. Rachel better watch out!”
Good back and forth action until Rachel McAdams found the way to take Jessica Alba down. Alba fans still insisting it was a “fluke” win, but the McAdams respond retort: “A win is a win and Rachel got the win.” Hopefully their fans will be seeing much more of both fighters as the year progresses.
