Elodie Frege versus Britney Spears
Latin Union vs Hour Glass Fitness (Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)
BEFORE:
Plenty of respect between these two, who've fought before in Paris, when Frege surprised everyone by giving Britney a very good fight. "She's stronger than me," Elodie admits pre-fight, "But, she's stronger than almost every bantam. I can deal with that power and box well enough to beat her. I was close the last time, and this time I will get the job done."
Spears well aware of Frege's abilities. "She's a slick boxer, no question about that," the blonde says. "She can eat minutes and score points and get you in a hole. You've got to be on your game against her. Just ask Pressly and Alba."
ROUND ONE: Elodie known to some as a "poor man's Britney" because she's shown an ability to work from the pocket. But, the French beauty isn't going to try to out-Britney Britney, instead making with the legs and the jab early. Frege makes it her business to stay in the center and box. She won't get drawn in to assaulting Brit in the pocket. When Spears backs up, Frege stays where she is and waits, forcing Britney into a war of movement, where the French girl is able to get the better of things. Spears lands her share of punches. She's able to put them together. But, she doesn't land any power shots, because Frege's too slick to get caught with one. Elodie, meanwhile, works the jab, moves the feet, lands in combination, and outscores Britney to claim the first round and a 10-9 lead.
ROUND TWO:
Brit gets physical. If Elodie won't allow her to work in the pocket, she'll cut and crowd the French beauty, and that's exactly what she does. Spears doesn't like to chase girls, but she can still move very, very well when she wants to, as she proves by consistently cutting the ring on Frege and landing heavy shell to the head and body each time she does so. Elodie hangs in there, fires back as much as she can, and makes her escape as soon as possible, getting back to open canvas where she can box and move. But, it's not long before Britney brings her to battle again, and, with the heavier shell, gets the better of the exchanges, despite Frege's game attempts to hold her own. It's Britney from bell to bell, and the fight is now even at 19.
ROUND THREE:
Elodie finds space. It's not easy, not as well as Spears is moving and as skilled as she is at cutting the ring, but the French beauty manages to do it. And, when she does, it's Elodie who gets more work done. She's quick and slick with the left jab, slowing Britney's advance with it and setting her up for sharp right hands. Frege never hurts Spears, but she scores. A lot. Britney gets some work done when she does manage to close and force battle, but those moments are much fewer and further between in the third, and are more than offset by all the scoring Elodie does in space. Frege's in constant motion, bouncing, snapping out the left, circling, reversing, making Britney work hard to square. It's good stuff from Elodie, and it adds up to victory in the third and puts Frege back in front 29-28.
ROUND FOUR:
Spears on a mission. She's not having any more of this dancing and turning in the middle of the ring. It's time to get the big guns on target, and if that means taking some fire from Frege, Brit's willing to do it. She gets caught more than once as she walks forward aggressively, cutting Elodie off and forcing long, heavy exchanges, but Spears keeps coming. She's closes. She crowds. She bangs. She works body. She scuffs the French beauty up and then keeps on scuffing. Elodie, as always, game. She's firing back with everything she's got, but, again, the heavier guns Spears can deploy rule the day, and, for the first time in the fight, Frege spends some time trapped against the ropes, covering up, taking heavy fire. When the fourth ends, we're even again, this time at 38.
ROUND FIVE:
Brit on the offensive. She's laser-focused now on reducing Elodie, crowding her, backing her up with heavy shot. Frege fighting back hard, landing good stuff in heavy exchanges, but she doesn't have the power to bang with Spears and she's slowly forced backward and trapped on the ropes, creating the strange sight of Britney Spears assaulting Elodie Frege's pocket. And the Frenchwoman IS slick in the pocket. She CAN fight this way, and she's able to slow Britney's assault and strike back with solid counter punches. Spears' momentum begins to slow and Frege begins to score more and more in counter. Until. Britney lands a short right hook. Elodie's legs wobble and a follow up left sends her crumpling forward. Britney steps aside and lets Frege fall to the mat, face down, with her hands trapped beneath her. Elodie tries to push to her hands and knees twice, but, both times, she slumps back to the mat, where she is when the count reaches 10, making your winner by KO5, Britney Spears!
AFTER:
Britney all smiles. Hall of Famer breaks a rare three-fight losing streak by bringing back vintage Britney Spears. There was nothing slick or pretty about what she did tonight. She just brought the physical and blasted a talented bantam out of there. "You don't want to box with her," Brit says with a gorgeous smile. "She's really quick and very slick. She'll pick you apart if you aren't careful. I had to get up in her grill and use my power. When I do that, there's not a bantam on the planet that can stand up to me. Not one."
