A simple, straightforward fight: both women needed to come forward to win. That’s it—that’s all—both knew it coming in and minute by minute, it was Poppy making it happen at Carla’s expense.

Both girls came in with question marks. Highly touted Gugino suffered a devastating KO2 loss to Jennie Garth last timer out, raising murmurs about Carla’s status as perhaps an overrated slugger. Montgomery limped into this fight after suffering a vicious apartment house wrestling loss to Catherine Zeta Jones—and it’s a well-known phenomenon that women who take Zeta Jones beatings on carpet often suffer lingering psychological doubts long afterward. On this occasion however, both rose above the damage to engage in robustr trade, fighting off one another’s chests every minute of this intimate, bruising struggle.

The battle was close and competitive, but Poppy was constantly the busier, hungrier vixen. Poppy made sure it was Carla’s back pinned and sweaty against ropes at the end of the rounds, Carla’s tummy taking the extra punch, Carla’s arms and ribs suffering the worst of the extended, clubbing exchanges. When not punching  on Carla, Poppy was bodying up, constantly making the brunette take blonde weight, and the smoldering effect was wonderfully demoralizing for poor Gugino. Despite sitting Poppy down with a hook in the 8^th, Carla simply couldn’t match her foe’s intensity and by the end, Gugino’s deeply discouraged expression told the tale.

After the decision, a moping, beat up Carla glared resentfully at Poppy’s celebration which included congratulations from the likes of Jennie Garth, Emily Procter, and Maria Bello. Clearly, Gugino’s struggles had captured the of a number of opportunistic blondes, each anxious to get in on the Gugino sweepstakes while the getting was good.
