Mutya Buena vs Lucy Hale UK VS USA PPV Words: Archer Results: Lookout Mutya: 30 YO, 5’2 (1.57m); 6-1-0 (6 KO) since 2014 (BBU), Unmanaged Lucy: 26 YO , 5’2 (1.57 m), 14-16-0 (14 KO) since 2010, (Lucy has a BBU record of 2-3-0 with 2 KO wins). Pretty Little Punchers Inc.
Before: One of two PPV events being broadcast from the Foxfire Atlantic HQ and Training Center in Black Swan Hall, an estate near the city of Cardiff in Wales. This will mark singer Mutya Buena’s debut for many USA celebrity boxing fans. It also marks a return to British boxing for Lucy Hale who back in her pre-PLP days barnstormed around the UK with a pick-up team managed by FCBA veteran Dani Fishel.
“I was still struggling back in 2011,” Lucy Hale, “I had to settle for winning 2 out of 5 bouts, but I have always wanted to return and show my British fans how much I’ve improved since then. I will admit that I don’t know much about Mutya Buena, but her having 6-1 records tells me I’m in for a tough fight and I’ve been preparing accordingly. I have also looked over the venue—it’s the Hall’s ballroom converted into a small arena. I think I am going to like the intimacy, but I also glad it’s being piped back to the States. I want all my friends back home to see this.”
“As far as I concerned, Lucy Hale is a mediocrity.” Mutya Buena says bluntly. “I won’t judge her singing because I have never heard it, but you can’t tell me14-16 is anything more than mediocre especially compared to my 6-1. I am sure there are a lot better American celebrity boxers around than her, but you have to start somewhere and it would appear Lucy Hale is ‘somewhere’. I can only hope she will give me a decent showcase of my boxing talents.”
Lucy Hale not appreciating Ms. Buena’s comments sits smoldering in her chair and storms back to the podium: “Don’t worry, Mutya, you’ll getting all the ‘showcase’ you can handle from me and I guarantee you’ll find out records can lie. I am not a mediocrity—or if I am, I good enough to beat the likes of you!”
Mutya gives her Lucy a sneering glare in response. Lucy keeps her temper (much to the disappointment of British catfight fans), but leaves the stage muttering “See you in the ring!”{ to Mutya.
Fight night finds plenty of support for Mutya Buena who marches to the ring in a daringly cut black one-piece with a front that plunges to her navel. (Concealed support keeps Mutya’s lush breasts supported even as they peek out fron the sides of “V”. Mutya (of Filipino-Irish descendent) reminds FCBA fans of Dani “The Tank” Fishel. Indeed, reports say Lucy has been training hard with Dani (who is on the card with Lacey Banghard) and the slighter-built Lucy doesn’t seem at all intimidated as she comes to the ring in an one piece with olive green trunks and a white and olive green striped top. (Across the seat of the trunks are yellow lightning bolts flanking the yellow lettered word HALESTORM). Black gloves for Mutya and white gloves for Lucy. Two are giving each other hostile stares during ring instruction, but referee keeps good order and manages to get through the formalities without trouble.
R1: Lucy springing out of her corner to take the fight to Mutya, who greets the American with a stiff jab and some degree of caution. Lucy eager to get her gloves on Mutya’s face and she’s willing to accept some punishment to do it. Mutya not showing much offense, but her defense is not bad, though she’s getting her cheeks shined up by Lucy’s swinging lefts and rights. British fans a bit dismayed, Mutya has a reputation as a brawler/pressure fighter but she’s letting Lucy do most of the work. Not to say Mutya’s looking overwhelmed, she does get some solid hooks into Lucy’s tummy and a nice straight right that catches Lucy on the mouth to make her temporarily less aggressive. Still, Lucy’s plainly the busier fighters and takes the opening round. Lucy looking very pleased with herself on her stool. Mutya Buena looks stone-faced, but not really upset.
R2: Lucy eagerly trotting in again, but Mutya startles her with a rush from her corner. Lucy gets her head swiveled by a clouting right to the jaw that sends her spinning to the left. Mutya moved quickly to pound American belly and drive Lucy back to the ropes. Lucy gets thoroughly pasted for a intense few moments as Mutya has her pinned against the strands and pounding body and head as Lucy buries her face in her gloves. Mutya starts shoving Lucy along the ropes, Lucy finally thinks to start clinching to break up the bombardment and referee’s breaks buy the Pretty Littler Punchers some precious seconds of recovery time. Mutya maintaining the pressure, but Lucy has her jab in play and shows some good footwork in finally escaping the ropes to get back to mid-ring. Mutya feeling the jab, slowing the attack, but keeps Lucy on the defensive to the bell, Mutya Buena the clear winner of this round. Lucy’s face looking lumped up as she goes back to her corner and she is not looking happy. Mutya allows herself a small satisfied smirk as she sits on her stool looking at the frantic repair work being done of her opponent.
R3: Mutya Buena on the attack once again, but Lucy Hale dueling with her right from the start. Mutya trying to plow ahead to get in close, but Lucy’s using her jab to knock Mutya’s head back repeatedly. Mutya finally losing steam and Lucy takes this as her cue to counterattack. Lucy circling and then attacking strongly from unexpected angles, Mutya fights back stubbornly but she keeps being taken by surprise and she’s got a nasty swelling over her left eye and a cut lower lips that’s drippling crimson down her chin. Mutya not as nimble on her feet as Lucy and having trouble keeping up with her. However, Lucy is unable to land anything like a knockout punch and has to settle for a points win of the round.
R4: Intense action this round as Mutya succeeds in getting toe to toe with Lucy early on and keeps her close so as to negate Lucy’s fancy footwork. Lucy’s cheeks starting to swell from Mutya’s steady hammering, but Lucy working Mutya’s midsection and she’s slowly making the British fighter step back. Now it’s Lucy hanging close to hammer hooks into Mutya’s breasts and then sliding them under Mutya’s guard into her chin. Each uppercut to the chin making Mutya shudder, but she lashes back with hooks of her own to Lucy’s breastworks. Lucy getting her tits pounded relentlessly and then Mutya slips an uppercut to Lucy’s chin. Lucy feels the shock go through her body, but she hangs on to punish Mutya with her jabbing. That swelling over Mutya’s left eye looking worse and her whole face is getting red and puffy. Mutya grimly hanging in but her punch output slows. Lucy finally pulls out a close round.
R5: Toe to toe action resumes in this round as the two fighters collide at mid-ring. Rapid-fire exchange sees Mutya getting to Lucy’s jaw with hard swiping rights and lefts. Lucy knocked back on shaking stems and Mutya hard on her. Lucy manages to slow Mutya up some desperate jabbing to the face and then circles away. Mutya again not as quick as Lucy, but she’s relentless in her pursuit. Lucy’s evasive tactics keeping her out of range for a while, but Mutya finally gets her cornered and pumps hooks into Lucy’s belly driving Lucy up on her toes. Lucy biting down hard on her mouthpiece as she jabs back and finally forces Mutya back. Lucy stunned and aching from the battle does not counterattack and just keeps the British singer back. Mutya wins a solid round.
R6: Mutya full of fire at the start of this round goes charging right at Lucy. Lucy lerts her come, but then side steps and throws a hard right that catches Mutya in the temple. Mutya’s head swivels and she lurches forward. Lucy gets back in front of the hurt Mutya and brings a right uppercut into Mutya’s chin. Mutya stumbles forward onto her knees and drops forward onto hands and knees, sweat and blood dripping down as she struggles to recover. Referee beginning his count as Lucy Hale watches warily from neutral corner. Mutya makes it up by 9 and tries to shake off the knockdown, insisting to concerned referee that she is able to continue. Referee waves Lucy back in and Mutya makes some weak jabs before Lucy finds her chin again sending British fighter spilling into the ropes. Lucy swarms after Mutya striking hard at Mutya’s head as the British fighter slides along the strands. Then Lucy cuts her off and just stands there knocking Mutya’s head from sider to side as Mutya cannot keep her gloves up to defend herself. AND THE REF JUMPS IN! Referee forces himself between the fighters as the helpless Mutya sags into his arms. Lucy steps back and breaks into a big smile as she realizes she’s just won.
The winner: Lucy Hale TKO6.
After: Lucy congratulated by PLL colleagues Janel Parrish and Sasha Pieterse. Lucy getting her gloves off and then heads over to drag Mutya Buena on a walk of shame. Mutya's got a lot of fans and they happy to see their fav treated like this by the American invader. Lucy just ignores to boos and waves to the fans she does have in the crowd who naturally approve of the walk.
“I wanted to make a statement,” Lucy explains later to the boxing press, “I’m Lucy Hale and bringing my ‘Halestorm’ to any place I fight. No, I didn’t mind the boos. I get it that her fans were upset/ I beat and humiliated their favorite. As I said, I did it to make a statement. I do hope now all the British celebrity boxing fans will at least fear my fighting skills. I do hope to return. I love fighting here in Black Swan Hall. The intimacy is very different than fighting in a big arena. It’s a nice change of pace. The Kate Winslet and all the Foxfire Atlantic people have been very helpful to me here, too and I want to thank them for that. I also want to be sure to thank Dani Fishel for helping me to prepare against Mutya. I may have had trouble following her advice during the fight, but definitely helped me to win. Dani Fishel is amazing!”
“Bloody little bully,” a disappointed Mutya Buena, “she was just too slippery for me. Whenever I could get her cornered I was able to rock her. I just couldn’t do it enough. That walk of shame? A cheap stunt that tells you all you need to know about the kind of person Lucy Hale is.”
Exciting brawl while it lasted, but Lucy was indeed “too slippery” from Mutya and it cost her. Lucy does succeed in getting the attention of UK boxing fans, but social media seems more interested in finding a local boxer who can “make Lucy pay for Mutya Buena.” However, Lucy does gain Black Swan Hall fans by patiently signing autographs for a long queue of fans in the post fight. |
