Shelley Hennig versus Sophie Turner
UK vs USA PPV
Words: Archer   Results: Lookout
Shelley: 28 YO (5’8, 1.73 m), 1-2-0 (1 KO) since 2012. Unmanaged.
Sophie: 19 YO, (5’9, 1.75 m), 1-1-0  (1 KO) since 2015. Gemini Boxing Club

Before:  “Teen Wolf’s” Shelley Hennig frank when she takes the podium in pre-fight:  “3 fights since 2012 and I have only won one of them. You are seeing a very frustrated fighter here. Sophie may not be happy about not winning her debut, but that is nowhere near as frustrating as my situation. I don’t mean to sound like a whiner. I realize there isn’t room from everyone who wants to fight, but I wanted to explain why I VERY motivated to win this fight. I am not about to let Sophie get her second win at my expense. Nothing personal, Sophie, but I am serious about winning this. I was Miss Louisiana and Miss Teen USA, I come from pageant boxing and pageant boxers hate to lose!”

Sophie Turner of “Game of Thrones”  listens thoughtfully and then takes her turn at the podium: “I regret to say I was never on a stage wearing a sash and boxing in a swimsuit to win a beauty pageant.  I’m sure that experience explains why you are so desperate to defeat me. However, I do count myself fortunate that I was signed by Gemini Boxing.  I won my first fight for them.  It is wonderful to have that kind of support and I am anxious to win this fight so I can further demonstrate they made the right decision in signing me. I’m sorry Shelley, but I’ve lost and I don’t care to have that experience again. I want to win just as much as you do.”

“I doubt that—and besides you always thought it was cool to wear your sash in pageant boxing,” Shelley retorts after scowling at Sophie’s put-downs of her proud pageant boxing career.

“If you think fighting with a sash is cool, Shelley, then it sure must be,” Sophie replies,. “Who am I, a mere non-beauty pageant girl, to criticize its hallowed traditions?”

Shelley just crossed her arms at her chest and smolders as a chuckle goes through the crowd at Sophie’s witticism.

Fight night finds Shelley coming to the ring in a red white and blue one piece. While Shelley Turner is in a Union Jack one piece. Murmurs of approval from the crowd glad to both fighters getting into the spirit of tonight’s PPV. Shelley’s bobbed brunette hair hanging loose, while Sophie’s long red locks are in an long battle braid down her back. Shelley in blue boots with white stars and red gloves with white gloves. Sophie in red shoes and blue gloves (white laces for both). Both fighters attentive during instructions from referee, but some nervousness as they try to stay loose by moving in place. Gloves swiped and fighters retire to their corners. The bell sounds, the crowd roars with anticipation, and the fight is on.

R1: Sophie striking first as she keeps her left hand up around her cheek and uses her right to strike at Shelley. She’s hitting the brunette mainly in the forehead to start, but soon is hooking into Shelley’s long, lean torso. Shelley looking for an opening, is slow to get her jab going, but after the body gets steadily banged without much in the way of counters from her, the American brunette brings her jab into play. Struck in the face several timers, Sophie starts to circle and Shelley moving with her to block.  Sophie shows some nice combination work in swatting Shelley’s head from side to side with alternate rights and lefts, then back to the body. Shelley tries to jabbing harder and she does make Sophie back off late, but Sophie Turner takes the opening round wide.

R2: Shelley showing more offensive spirit in this round as she duels with Sophie from the bell. Hard back and forth action, mainly to the body, but licking at the jaw whenever a chance appears. Shelley starting to land more jaw shots and she’s making Sophie back up with some reddening lumps on jaw. Shelley moving her long legs well, manages to cut off the ring on the British redhead and back her up with a flurry of punches to the belly, then rising to smite Sophie’s breasts and chin. Sophie glaring defiantly manages a quick lunge and right cross that swivels Shelley’s head when it lands on her jaw, but Shelley answers with a left that gets over Sophie’s gloves and bloodies her nose. Rugged toe to toe action as Sophie ignores the blood trickling down her mouth and chin to jab at Shelley, but the American striking back steadily to the redhead’s body until she steps back. Shelley able to edge out a narrow win on points this round.

R3: More intense action as the young fighters get close and fire away as they get toe to toe and hammer away. Most of the action is to the straining bodies of both fighters as they pound leather into sweat soaked fighting suits. Makes interesting wet smacks often followed by little grunts, though only ringsiders can catch the sounds. Crowd is going wild as the youngster pound away. Shelley suddenly shifts to uppercuts into Sophie’s chin late and makes Sophie stutter-step backwards. Sophie holds her defenses together as Shelley pursues, but is again edged out on the cards for a second round.

R4: Shelley catching Sophie off guard by shifting to a circling, long range attack taking advantage of her long-armed reached to bang the redhead’s skull. Sophie seems confused and just keeps her guard up high to protect her head. Shelley can’t pass up an opportunity like that for feasting her gloved fists on Sophie’s body. Belly, ribs and breasts coming under Shelley’s leather and they are making Sophie all the more defensive. She’s using some decent footwork to try to keep distance from the aggressive American, but uses her jab only intermittently and it costs her on the judges’ card as Shelley Hennig adds her third straight round to her column.

R5: Sophie seen getting urgent advice from her trainers during break, She is nodding intently., but can she actually carry out what’s been told her? Shelley Hennig finds out the hard way as Sophie shows she can use good footwork and nail at opponent from long range. Shelley gets pasted on the cheekbone, mouth (a wiping right that splits both lips so Shelley’s got to be tasting her own blood, and finally a payback shot to the nose that even produces a little bit of bleeding. Sophie then moving in hammering at Shelley’s head and body. She mixes up the face and body shots very well and Shelley gets hit hard in both areas several times. Shelley finally backing up to reorganize, but Sophie maintaining a close pursuit. Shelley starting to look harried as the clocks rolls, but can’t seem to get her jab going effectively.  American takes a lot of heavy punching to the bell and she looks unsteady as she returns to her corner. Sophie wins this one wide.

R6: Round starts with Shelley showing that jab to keep Sophie at bay when she comes up the middle. After taking some heavy Hennig leather to the gut, Sophie resorts to a rapid circling, then unexpectedly reversing course to keep Shelley off balance. Shelley getting frustrated as she is pounded to the midsection and lunges in trying to smash through Sophie’s defenses to get at her chin. Sophie coolly ducking the incoming then rising into a lightning-like double left/right uppercut to Shelley’s exposed chin. Shelley’s head snaps back, but her forward momentum causes her lurch forward as Sophie calmly steps aside. Shelley careens into the ropes and sinks to her knees. Referee moves in as Shelley uses the strands to claw her way back to her feet. She stands there insisting to concerned referee that she is perfectly able to go on. Official looks doubtful, but allows the fight to continue. Shelley out of the neutral corner quickly and quickly overwhelms Shelley’s defenses. American is driven along the ropes, trying to escape, but ends up in a corner, back to the turnbuckle, but won’t go down. Sophie in a frenzy trying to get the stubborn Shelley onto the canvas and is quickly becomes apparent that Shelley not defending herself. AND THE REFEREE JUMPS IN! Official thrusts himself between fighters and cradles the now defenseless Shelley in her arms. Sophie looks startled as the bell rings and she suddenly realizes she has won her fight for her country! British boxing fans especially excited and break out British flags to wave around the arena. A great moment for young Ms. Turner and her fans.

THE WINNER: Sophie Turner TKO8.
After: “Wasn’t that an amazing fight?” Sophie excitedly tells press after. “I mean, Shelley took 3 rounds in a row. My corner warned me I wasn’t aggressive enough and they were right. Once I carried the battle to Shelley as I had done in the first, it changed everything and now I have my first victory. Oh, it is such a good feeling. Poor Shelley, she fought so hard and I have some pretty bad aches to prove it, but it wasn’t enough to stop me. She’ll have to get that second victory from someone else.”

Dejected Shelley Hennig says: “I let this one get away from me. She did catch me by surprise with that R5 comeback and it went down-hill for me from there. I know I could beaten her, but I didn’t sand now all I can do is move on. I will break this cycle of defeat. It’s just going to take longer than I had hoped.”

Good rookie contest with Sophie Turner demonstrating the ability to stage a comeback when things are looking dark. Her new management must be very pleased as she scores her second win for them.  Shelley Hennig understandably disappointed, though she did show some good things, but most observers agree with her—she did seem to let this one get away. That’s the way it can go for fighters without a lot of ring experience. Hopefully Ms. Hennig will learn from this setback and get some badly needed wins.
